England Bid for World Cup 2018

There's the supporters club thing. They tend to be open for new registrations after major tournaments. They have a cap based system where you get 1 for a home game and 2 for an away, or something,. The more caps you have by the time the next major tournament comes round the more chance you have of getting tickets.

Something along those lines. My mate goes to a lot of England games. I never really listened to him when he tried to explain it. Hullfox will probably be able to help you out a lot more.

In Germany there was a ballot for German citizens , for anybody interested they applied then got offered tickets for certain games and then decided if they wanted them , the landlord of the house we stopped in in 2006 had tickets to 4 group matches

Isn't it ironic that Winkelman has thought of getting the taxpayer to complete his ground instead of himself.

If MK Dons get it and we don't I will be absolutely disgusted.

Would be nice to see Hull get it, the more money put into the city, particularly that part of the city, the better. The park right outside the stadium (which is pretty big) could serve as one fan bit and there are various other parks across the city which could be used. The KC is a damn nice stadium as well I think, compared to other new ones. In my opinion you can't really call it a samey stadium, I think it's a nice, different design. And I hope that by then Hull are quite a big club.

All good points there but why is that?

Yeah I thought that was how it works, someone I used to work with went to a few England games and explained it but like you never really listened! lol

So basically there is a very slim chance I or anyone without the membership would get tickets for an England game? I didn't think there would be a good chance anyway as obviously there would be a HUGE demand for tickets to the England games.

Fairly sure there has to be a certain amount of tickets assured for the public. As seen in 2006 and soon to be in 2010 (some tickets for that are as cheap £3).

Good chance though that England games wouldn't be included in this. As a rule of thumb, Wembley as always taken it's time to sell out it's capacity since the first international.

Personally i would take either :scarf:

I would prefer 2018 as i would be 31/32 and i would take the whole 5 to 6 weeks off work. come 2022 i may be too mature or dead to do it

Yeah, you might as well kill yourself when you get to 35. That's like being an OAP.

World Cup football in Leicester would be great but theres no point in expanding the Walkers just for that purpose. Like others have said, unless we're premiership we wouldn't get close to filling 40,000 capacity.

But we could close any upper tiers for lower-league games, like Leeds and Franchise do.

As if the Olympics hasn't cost this country enough.

If we put on a world cup tomorrow using:

Old Trafford

Wembley

Emirates Stadium

Hillsborough

Villa Park

Elland Road

Anfield

Goodison Park

Stadium of Light

St James' Park

Stamford Bridge

Eastlands

It would be streets ahead of any potential venues mentioned in that link for 2018. If non elite clubs like Bristol City, Pompey, Forest and the ****** want to Jump on the bandwagon and get 2 group games featuring Paraguay, Togo, China and Switzerland then start 2018/19 season with 40% filled grounds then let them. Hoping LCFC arn't too serious about this move.

I don't know whether you were fortunate enough to go to germany for the 2006 event but I was and I can say that the atmoshere everywhere was excellent even for the so called smaller matches which were pretty much sold out. The fans zones in each of the cities were brilliant and brought much needed commerce to those places. yes we could just stick to the main centres but we stand a better chance of getting the event by spreading the venues around the country. Your point about not filling the grounds at the start of the season is probably valid but the rest shows a contempt for football fans in so called less fashionable football centres who would have just as much right to witness world cup football near where they live as someone from Liverpool or manchester. By the way if you seriously think elland road to be a satisfactory venue then I can't agree it is old and starting to fall apart with poor seating etc etc.

Spot on, Germany was a wonderful trip and the atmospheres of the games and the fan parks were 2nd to none. I promise that for the likes of the Tommehs Jmes Maybes Cheds and the rest of the atmosphere junkies on here it is right up you guys streets . Constant giggle , me and the missus partied with the Aussies through the night after the Japan game . Unbeilvable times

RE Special Olympics....

Cheers. Thats not bad for the City at all then! If it goes well then it should boost the Citys chances.

Apart from the fact the agency who were hired to secure funding completely dropped a bollock and have secured about 50p of the £3m + needed. The leicester council tax payer will be footing this bill for a while to come.

Quite obviously would be a good thing for the country and possibly the City were it to come to fruition. Can't help thinking Catarh (lol) will win. Political correctness will have its way. David Mellor (ex-Tory politician that once got on the front of the Sun because he liked shagging his secretary whilst wearing his Chelski shirt said on TV today that we won't get it because:

a) Blatter hates England.

b) FIFA like grounds with running tracks round the perimeter.

c) Blatter hates England.

d) FIFA thinks the Premiership is too big for its boots.

e) Blatter hates England.

Anyhow, were England to win, I think the number of grounds should be expanded, for precedental (?) reasons, to include:

Bournemouth - first ever WC game to be played in a three sided stadium;

Exeter City - first ever WC game in a stadium where you can piss on the away fans in the streets below from an inside urinal;

Morecambe - first ever stadium to totally collapse during a WC game;

Just a thought....

Would love to have WC at the walkers, but if im honest I think Notts will get it alongside Brum as the midlands representatives. Didn't Forest host a game at Euro 96? This 40k minimum capacity brings me onto the season ticket holder debate. Im a season ticket holder and have been for a number of years. I too wouldn't like to watch games in a half empty stadium. Why is it we only seem to attract around 10-15 season ticket holders when teams like Norwich 19k and Derby have around 24k season ticket holders? Even Sunderland, a small town, yes they are in the prem regualry get 40k to a home game. From what I remember Leicester is the 10 biggest city in Engand we should be getting more fans in through the gates.

Apparently we had the biggest average attendance outside the Premiership this season, Quite impressive.

We had the 2nd? 3rd? Biggest attendance in the Championship last season, not bad for a shit team, worst team/players/manager in our history, worst season in our history, e.t.c.

We do have quite big attendance's TBH, and if we got in the Premiership i'd say we would almost sell out most games (On our current capacity). If we had an expansion to 40k, I don't think we'd sell that out though. But I think our attendances compared to clubs of our size and clubs outside the Premiership are pretty good and impressive - Not atmosphere wise but turning up wise.

Sunderland has a similar population to Leicester, and a much bigger catchment area.

We had around 22k season ticket holders last time we were in the top flight. A couple of half-decent seasons in the division (Stoke are proving that it can be done) and that number would rise still further.

There are a number of sponsorship deals and fundraising events in the pipeline. I doubt there'll be any serious long-term financial damage.

Eh? Surely Leeds had more? And teams like Norwich, Forest etc?

Agreed. It has one decent stand and three crap ones.

Goodison Park is marginally better but still way short of what was on offer in Germany last time around.

We were about sixth, behind Derby (!), Wolves, Sheff Utd, Norwich and Leeds. We were well ahead of Cov and Birmingham, though..

That's what I thought and found it hard to believe, I forget where I read or heard it now, but I definitely heard the statistic at the end of the season. I'm happy using it :giggle:

I havn't read all the posts. But regarding the possible redevelopement (expansion) of the walkers, has it been mentioned that the English FA would contribute to the expansion if the walkers was to host group matches. Cos if this is so it is a very good plan by Milan and co.

Also as all countries are bidding for either 2018 and 2022 are they being annouced at the same time. I really hope it is us in 2018 and England in 2022.

Id settle for that , prefer the other way round but id take it. If we wasnt to get it then the Aussies would be my next choice
