Lovejoy Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Real turn up for the books in Germany this season. For those of us who like the Bundesliga the last round of fixtures looks a bit tasty. Wolfsburg will win their first ever title if they beat Bremen on Saturday. And their strikeforce is manic, the two forwards Grafite and Dzeko have 26 and 25 league goals respectively so far . Though if they slip up, whoever wins out of the Bayern vs Stuttgart match will win the title. Laarve it.
Finnegan Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I hate Stuttgart and have no love for Bayern, go Wolfsburg! Didn't it say on the Bremen / Shaktar commentary that they only need a draw? I'm not a big fan of German football like some on here but I do enjoy it and I do think it's a wonderfully open league compared to most in Europe.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 They're home form has been practically flawless which is winning it for them, they're mediocre on the road.
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 This is the top of the league table the way I'd like to read it comes Saturday, 5.20pm CET: 1. VfL Wolfsburg 2. VfB Stuttgart 3. Hertha BSC Berlin 4. FC Bayern Munich

Provided, that Bayern or Stuttgart don't win by four goals or more. 'Tis good but if you have a read of Wolfsburg history, they are a similar ilk to Hoffenheim as Volkswagen funds most of the club. Their manager is also leaving to 9th placed Schalke at the end of the season.
MC Prussian Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 They're home form has been practically flawless which is winning it for them, they're mediocre on the road. They're facing Werder Bremen away. That's first-placed against the team with the most worn-out players. Result pretty much obvious.
Finnegan Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I think the bigger news here is that FC St. Pauli are stuck with midtable mediocrity for another year! Though to be honest, as far as I understand it a large contingent of their fans would actually prefer NOT going up as they believe it will endanger not only the club's financial stability / future but also the culture there. Which is a shame, I think it'd be great to see the Millerntor packed with a top league crowd again. It looks like Hansa Rostock will survive, too. Boo!
Fosse Boy Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I think the bigger news here is that FC St. Pauli are stuck with midtable mediocrity for another year! Hopefully going to try and get to a game next season.

Although Volkswagen are club sponsors since 1952, it hasn't helped putting Wolfsburg on the German football map up until 10 years ago, when they finally made it to the Bundesliga. Hoffenheim's much more of a plastic club, in terms of rapid success going up the leagues - the rise has pretty much happened within two years. Their fanbase has only recently increased with the move to a new stadium, but most of them have never supported the club before.
Finnegan Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Hopefully going to try and get to a game next season. Likewise, money permitting. But it may end up being the season after. I want to go and watch Rayo Vallecano, too!
potter3 Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Been to a St. Pauli game, away at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, wasn't amazing , but then again it was a Friday night, absolutely freezing, rained quite a bit too, and they were 3-0 down within the first half hour or so. To be fair we weren't in the main area that the chanting was coming from either, it was absolutely rammed. They were still better than 90% of fans English games Think I want Stuttgart to win, they're one of my more favoured German teams.
Samilktray Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I like them. Having Wolf in the name is the main reason, cool as fuck.

I was watching the UEFA Cup final with some Germans last night. One of them confirmed by view on Hamburg fans. He said all the good people in Hamburg support St. Pauli and all the assholes support Hamburg Now where's SUAS/Floating Fox when you need him? Felix Magath is an absolute plank. It also looks like they're going to lose a number of their players this season even with VW's money bankrolling them and a League Championship under their belts.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 PSG: better than the whole of Germany, evidently. Wolfsburg was incidentally one of the games I went to this season and they were pretty useless. Grafite wasn't playing though.
Lovejoy Posted 22 May 2009 Author Posted 22 May 2009 Dortmund & Zidan I don't care how hard it is, I AM going to stand on the Sudtribune next year . Largest terrace in Europe, 25,000 rammed behind one goal
The Blur Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 What happened to Hamburg- They used be at the top didn't they?
Alexikokopops Posted 22 May 2009 Posted 22 May 2009 What happened to Hamburg- They used be at the top didn't they? Throughout the second half of the season the top five have been separated by about 4 points. Hamburg are currently 6th, 8 points of Wolfsburg.
MC Prussian Posted 23 May 2009 Posted 23 May 2009 And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the title for VfL Wolfsburg. Beating Werder Bremen convincingly. Dzeko and Grafite have set a new goal record for a striker duo in the Bundesliga, surpassed the great Gerd Müller/Uli Hoeness combo from the 70ies. The Green Wolves played some fantastic football today. Cracking goals. Hope they continue to roll...
MarkDeVries Posted 23 May 2009 Posted 23 May 2009 Grafite & Dzeko are surely going to be looked at by the big guns in Europe?
