Tommeh Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Sorry, got extrememly bored at work this afternoon and made a list of best 15 away days and why? Only really got the last 4 years to play with which is when i really started going with the lads etc. Whilst I attended away games as a youngster they were with my dad with no real freedom, sat in allocated seat and cannot remember them too well. Here goes nothing. 15) Birmingham 2006/07 1-1 - Elvis Hammond last minute equaliser after a hell boring game and non stop singing of "30 quid and we'll stand up" Brilliant. 14) Hereford 2008/09 3-1 - Lovely weather, great drive, competitive game mad goal celebrations and on a terrace. Vital win too at a fabulous ground. 13) Bristol City 2007/08 2-0 - Holloway's 1st game and a real sign of hope, good following decent train rides fantastic atmsophere in a great away end and the usual celebrations. 12) Palace 2007/08 2-2 - 1st away game of the season in probably my favourite stand, good atmosphere great day in London and incredible celebrations for DJ's goal. 111) Barnsley 2006/07 1-0 - We stayed up Leeds went down, the usual Barnsley away following piled in at the back big goal from Fryatt and huge win. 10) Orient 2008/09 3-1 Every London away is great but in the sun, with real battling performance, huge win and top atmsophere it's even better. 9) Sheff United 2007/08 0-3 We got battered and kept singing and bouncing shoes off etc. Our end was excellant, nobody really gave a stuff and just enjoyed themselves. Extremely proud 8) Cheltenham 2008/09 4-0 - Brilliant on pitch performance coupled with a right laugh on the trains a couple of break downs good weather and all the faces in attendance It's right up there. 7) Millwall 2008/09 1-0 - Looking back I realise how much I loved this day, extremely exciting... yes possibly to do with the police and their Reputation but it was a huge win a real full day and made by the guys "Miiiillllllll ing on the tube. 6) Preston 2006/07 1-0 - Nills Eric Johansson last minute to effectively keep us up, it couldn't be written, incredible atsmophere throughout also, 1st game where I really stood with lads off here too. 5) Fulham 2006/07 3-4 - Amazing night, will always remember that Weso goal, running down the aisles a huge pile-on at the front complete madness ...then Montella got involved...another one of those proud nights of supporting city 4) Charlton FA Cup 2004/05 2-1 - 5th round shock and a last minute Dion winner to put us in the 1/4ers, remember standing front row and thinking "if only" when Gareth Williams put in the corner. Madness. 3) Forest CC 2007/08 3-2 - 2 Goals in 2 minutes in added time at the City Ground. Nuff said. 2) Chelsea CC 2007/08 - Possibly the worst City side I've seen, with 5 right backs a 5 man midfield with no midfielders in it and tactics with a scent of Gary Megson performed by a caretaker and Big Gerry Taggart. Keeping it below 5 would have been an achievement but to have lead at 3-2 with 10 to play was incredible, amazing atmosphere throughout, walking around the City looking for the coaches it was epic. AND CARL CORT SCORED....It also remains the only game where Shevchenko looked a decent player for them. 1) Southend 2008/09 - Loved this whole weekend, promotion champions..the rammed aisles, the pubs, the lads, many people off here, the morning after. the whole lot. Perfect.

Perfect. Went to 4 of your top 5 away games and the Charlton one was epic as watched it on beamback in the Walkers Stadium hall. Maybe i haven't missed as many great games as i thought But only went to 6 out of the 15 but most of the best ones. The Chelsea one was 3-2 up with 3 minutes to play though, which made it feel even worse. And 3-3 until stoppage time Couldn't believe it when Mcauley scored that cracking header after 6 minutes, i could believe Chelsea going 2-1 up, then even more incredibly couldn't believe Dj scoring the equalising header which was like slow motion, and to top it off Carl Cort putting us ahead 5 minutes later. What i could believe though is Shevchenko scoring his only quality goal in a Chelsea shirt against us, and Fat Frank Lampard scoring a lucky last minute winner.
Granno Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Some good memories from those matches you've said. Good times indeed.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 In no particular order: Chelsea 2007/8 - Cracking game, devastated to lose but still a quality night. Forest 2007/8 - First game was mega shit, the retake was brilliant. Sheff Utd 2007/8 - One of the most enjoyable 3-0 defeats, nobody bothered watching the game after 20 minutes. Barnsley 2007/8 - Great following, decent atmosphere, quality win. Barry Hayles was bloody superb. Barnsley 2006/7 - Same as above really, except this time we were definitely up and Leeds scum down. Reading 2004/5 - Decent FA cup away following, wild celebrations with last minute winner. Derby 2004/5 - Trev Benjamin scores the winner, enough said. Watford 2004/5 - Shit town, shit stadium, but decent atmosphere and we won with Kisnorbo in the midfield. Man City 2003/4 - We creamed them, simple as. Birmingham 2003/4 - Game after the La Manga incident, great atmosphere, Freund and Benjamin in our midfield, sir Les bagging the winner, definitely one of my favourite days following this club. Coventry 2002/3 - Back row of Highfield Road, nice 2-1 win in the shithole, McKinlay scored a beaut. That's as much as I can think of now.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Coventry 2002/3 - Back row of Highfield Road, nice 2-1 win in the shithole, McKinlay scored a beaut. That game was fooking awesome. Remember going mental after Billy's goal, that was such an underrated goal, probably due to the Izzet overhead kick the same season...
billyfox1 Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Don't do many away's but went to 4) Charlton & 11) Barnsley and they were both absoloutley cracking day's out Edit: Also went to 3)Forest. Didn't see that in there. Another fantastic evening
StanSP Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Don't do many away's but went to 4) Charlton & 11) Barnsley and they were both absoloutley cracking day's out Same. Been to three. Watford away last season - lost 1-0. Henderson scored even after they went down to 10men. Luton friendly - drew 1-1. Matthew Spring I think scored a cracker for them. Campbell couldn't hit water from a boat. Luton first game of season - lost 2-0.
Head Honcho Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Best away day for me has to be Fulham away when we won 1-0. I think Wilson scored, closely followed by Orient when we were promoted and Liverpool in 1980 when we dished out their first defeat at Anfield in a couple of years Worst have to be Harlow and Exeter in the FA cup.
gibbom Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 snowball fight after match at walsall, my first away game
Cobbo Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 The Scow and I had some fabulous ones last season Hereford and Sarfend being towards the top.
Head Honcho Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 The Scow and I had some fabulous ones last season Hereford and Sarfend being towards the top. ..........and I must say you were both a bit merry at Hereford. I did at the time put it down to the heat!
Bert Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Both times I've been to Hereford were fantastic, and both resulted in a 3-1 win. First time I went, was the very first time I'd properly met Maybes, second time, it was a beautiful day, with a vital win and the best football company you could hope for. Huddersfield away. The whole day was brilliant from start to finish, and when that 3rd goal went in. Wow. Chelsea in the cup. What a rollercoaster, winning, drawing, losing, drawing, winning, drawing, losing. Got home at 4.30 after what'd seemed like an age. Fulham in the cup. Another fantastic London trip, The Cadamarteri song was rocking and we were so close. Weso's screamer. Bristol Rovers away - FT Terrace. Sheff Utd away - Everyone knows why.

David Guiza Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Forest 3-2 Carling Cup. Loved it Chelsea 4-3 Carling Cup. Just the fact we led twice at Stanford Bridge and a quality game. Charlton 2-1 F.A Cup. The celebrtaion after Dublins header Newcastle 2-0 Premier League. Stayed there for the weekend when i was younger and won 2-0 Man City 3-0 Premier League Jordan Stewart screamer . Everyone thought we were back .
Cobbo Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 ..........and I must say you were both a bit merry at Hereford. I did at the time put it down to the heat! Cobbo and Scowey's awayday memories: This is scandalous.
Bakey Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 10) Orient 2008/09 3-1 Every London away is great but in the sun, with real battling performance, huge win and top atmsophere it's even better.9) Sheff United 2007/08 0-3 We got battered and kept singing and bouncing shoes off etc. Our end was excellant, nobody really gave a stuff and just enjoyed themselves. Extremely proud Only two I've been to. Sheffeild United was my first awayday and loved every minute of it.
willchafer Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 hereford my first and only away game to date so far but a thouroughly good game i thought and a jollly nice day.
potter3 Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Don't think there's much I can add to that list. None that spring to mind anyway. Enjoyed the trip to Ninian Park the season we went down. Random group hug on a random platform at Birmingham New St Oldham and Huddersfield too.
Teeno Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Man u away, 90 something. The year we beat them 1-0 when Cottee scored. Stoke Away, Play off semi 96 Forest last season Southend this season and 06/07 Beating Charlton in the cup when Dion scored MK this season, was me mates first weekend back from Afgan so was a right messy one. Cheltenham this season despite being up on crutches, and getting so pissed i cracked the plaster cast in half. Derby, a few season back. Tricky Trev the super sub. The number of times we did Villa at their place in the 90's. 96/97 stands out around oct/nov time. For some reason Rotherham away, think it was Sep 04, just remember having a quality day out. Too many to mention really following City away has provided some awesome memories.
Ultra Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 My top 15 in chronological order: 1) Fulham 1-0 1982-83 2) Liverpool 2-1 1984-85 3) Stoke 1-0 1995-96 4) Villa 3-1 1996-97 5) Blackburn 4-2 1996-97 6) Man Utd 1-0 1997-98 7) Derby 4-0 1997-98 8) Sunderland 2-1 1998-99 9) Tottenham 2-0 1998-99 10) Chelsea 2-0 2000-01 11) Portsmouth 2-0 2002-03 12) Birmingham 1-0 2003-04 13) Charlton 2-1 2004-05 14) Huddersfield 3-2 2008-09 15) Southend 2-0 2008-09
Basingstoke Fox Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Reading away in the cup was the only away win I have seen. It was awesome with the last minute goal and the fans doing us proud. been to about 15 since then and we havent won, nearly at palace but Clinton fecking Morrisson just wouldnt take it. Fulham away in 2007 made me proud, as did Chelsea away later that year. However Fulham away in the season just gone seemed to take the piss. Every time i go, we concede last minute goals! Then again anything is better than Charlton away in 2007, QPR away on new years day 2008 and Palace away in 2007. Utterly dreadful times!
Ultra Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 Then again anything is better than Charlton away in 2007, QPR away on new years day 2008 and Palace away in 2007. Utterly dreadful times! To be fair, most awaydays between 04 and 08 were like that.. Especially the ones at Bramall Lane, no matter what posters on here would have you believe.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 2 June 2009 Posted 2 June 2009 To be fair, most awaydays between 04 and 08 were like that.. Especially the ones at Bramall Lane, no matter what posters on here would have you believe. At least that sounded like it had a terrific atmosphere, these games, didn't . There was an excuse for QPR though, everyone was hungover. However it was quite fun taking the piss out of the 'willy puller in the hat'
