Craig Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 Anyone else a blogger? Not Twitter, i mean proper blogging. I've wanted to do a blog for a while but i've never known what to write about. Then today whilst i was signing-on i had a (what i considered to be) great idea. I came to the conclusion that i could write a blog about my current situation with regards to my unemployment. Sort of in the hope that people can view it, enjoy it, but also leave advice too to help me on my quest to find a job. Problem is though, i'm not sure how to get people viewing it. Any tips? Blog's in the sig if you're interested.
Granno Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 I'm coding a blog from scratch as a little project. None of this blogspot bollocks. Just gonna blog about whatever the hell I want. It's mah blog after all
Ultra Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 It's a good idea. A decent spellchecker would help you further, though..

Joe. Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 Got my own football blog, but as you can see I haven't updated it for a while. It's far too much effort for my liking...
General Smuts Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 I'm far too lazy for a blog. And there's only so many times i can tell you i've just had a wank before it becomes repetitive
Daggers Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Once upon a time spotty teenagers without girlfriends wrote poetry in their spunk-stained diaries - now the dour, dull and friendless inflict their pain and misery on the world via the Blog (or become councillors). There's not a blog I've seen worth returning to read a second time.
Monk Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 For me the most eye catching blog on the internet is www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog (also has lots of tips on blogging on there) Obviously there are 2 elements - the site/content and the advertising you use. Suggest you use wordpress with your own domain, then purchase a web 2.0 template for wordpress so that it looks quality. Many people gain readers by getting a guest post on a more popular blog.

Then you clearly haven't read the blog of that filthy lass who blogs about shagging all the time. Great read She made it into a book and published it as well.

Haha, this is helping Craig no end! Craig, try and keep positive mate. I know it's crap being unemployed - I've been there, there's a lot of it about especially now. Change your FB status too! Saying stuff lke that is not going to help.
Finnegan Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 I don't get people that write blogs about their own mundane lives. Who do they expect to read them, and why? Liverjournal's been going for years and it's the same principal (basically a cross between Twitter and a Blog), it predates Facebook, Faceparty, Twitter, Myspace, Bebo and all of that shit. But even then it's the communities (like Facebook's groups) that get all the attention, even then people barely read each other's diaries. I don't get how people even expect people to find their Blogs let alone want to read them. I appreciate it can be kind of theraputic to write so to that end, you know, just go for it! But trying to think of something clever or interesting to write about? Waste of time. It's hardly like you're going to wake up the next day to find yourself an internet sensation and if you do chances are it'll be for the wrong reasons.
Jon the Hat Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 The way to get readers is to comment on other blogs with similar subjects - if you do this logged in then most allow you to leave a link. Also try tags which tie in with what someone who is unemployed might search for. If you really expect people to read then you need to be original as well as seen.

Charming - mine even had photos of you in it. I just did a football one with a review of every game throughout the season that I went too (links in the sig). Never quite got round to finishing it though and the last three games I went to in the season still havent made it on there.... yet! It was all well and good to do at the start but towards the end of the season it just seemed to turn into a chore - worth while doing though, especially if you get a decent number of readers. Mine got quite a good number of hits for each entry during the season and I had people e-mailing me through it and the like. Even got back in touch with an old school friend who stumbled across it and recognised me from the photos.
Edmund Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 There are some brilliant music blogs out there. Not every blog is about so called "mundane lives" there exposing new prodcers/bands/acts getting there music out there. Fairplay to them I say. I bet half the people slagging these blogs of use crap like facebook which is probably the most pretentious website going trying to make there e-lives look great. Do I want to see a picture of you buying a pint, then a picture drinking it and then finally one of you putting the glass down do I fook.
Samilktray Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Always wanted to do a blog. People should definetly read about me.
Edmund Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Always wanted to do a blog.People should definetly read about me. Some top draw hip hop blogs out there if you look hard enough. Loads of deleted stuff which some kind folk record from there vinyl collection.
Tabou Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Always wanted to do a blog.People should definetly read about me. I already buy the Gay Times.* Burrrr dum dum tchssss!!! *I don't.
Daggers Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 You just need a quick flick through Facebook to see how tear-inducingly dull most peoples' lives are. "I feel a bit poorly today" "Oh no, I have a cough" Soandso..."just is." (A comment so profound that even I, King of the Dullards, have used it) It's OK if you are shagging around, really important and generally having a better life than mine: "Dealing with danger, at high speed, while filling buckets with animal spunk" would be a Blog I might be inclined to read.

Speaking of facebook status updates, I think my Uncle has just come out for the difintive one: "Richard is indignant and outraged. I was cruising effortlessly up the M1 this afternoon when I was overtaken by my own old car! I'm not being racist but to add insult to injury it was driven by what looked like Bob Marley. I hope he's getting lousy fuel consumption - Hmmph!"
Darkzzz_ Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Did cross my mind to start a blog but I would like to be blogging about the darker side of me that is butchering hookers in the back streets of Corby. That would be an interesting blog for sure.
Daggers Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 ...I would like to be blogging about the darker side of me that is butchering hookers in the back streets of Corby. Go on... It may not have buckets of pig semen but I'm already hooked. Or does it?
Darkzzz_ Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 Go on...It may not have buckets of pig semen but I'm already hooked. Or does it? Pig semen in Corby for the title? Will go live with this shit soon.
