Matchday Ticket Price Leap

I'm 23 now, and I'll be studying and living in London, I don't see myself going to any home games next season now, can't afford those prices.

Surely 30,000 bums on seats at £23 is better than 22,000 at £27. Bare in mind all the kids these days support Man U or Arsenal we are alienating some of our fans and future fans big style.
Couldn't agree more. Of course the core support of any club is it's STH holders, but the club offers less incentives for people to come and watch now than in the past, and are now in fact just making it clearly more difficult for people. Unless we're flying at the top of the league, we won't be attracting any new fans this season and will potentially lose fans.

You two really think we're sacrificing 8,000 fans every week (over a quarter of that suggested gate) by putting prices up four quid?

A lot of people, bizarrely, didn't seem to be interested in watching League One football despite the fact we were playing extremely well and winning (before February time) whereas they'll be back now for "bigger" games. We'll definitely get more fans in this season than last.

Personally, I doubt I'll bother with more than one or two home games this season but that's almost solely to do with the season ticket pricing structure.

Tbh no I don't, but I don't like this mindset that that seems to have festered in the club that they can put up the prices because they know that we'll still come, it just annoys me personally.

Any news on the student prices?

This season will also see a selected amount of £20 'Just the Ticket' adult seats available in the Upton Steel West Stand for each home league match, which represents a £5 discount on the lowest adult ticket price available, beating many of City's rivals in the Coca-Cola Championship. Restrictions will apply on this offer, to ensure that the tickets reach as many supporters as possible. Parent and child packages will begin at just £21 per match and an innovative student supporters scheme will enable supporters aged 12 and over within education at school, college or university, discount to fixtures once their institution has signed up to the scheme.

I can't see the Manchester Uni signing up to this?

Maybe re-register at LCFC using a younger birthday?

Thats great, £27 for a ticket when you get to sit in a plastic stadium with a load of bastards moaning at you constantly if you dare to try and create an atmosphere or even stand up? :o. Not to mention the fooking Chelsea Dagger! Trains alone cost £30 to get to Leicester when I dont have much money at the moment and the last couple of experiences at the Walkers were Blackpool and Sheffield Wednesday at home. Doubt I will be making many trips up to the Walkers now to be honest.

Even though I no longer attend matches it still pisses me off.

Fair play to those who still go despite all the shit.

It's not that simple. The headline £4 increase only applies to 6 games, so prices for 17 out of the 23 home games will only be £2 more - that is not going to cause regular swings of 8,000 on the gates. When running a football club, halving the prices doesn't double the gates. It just doesn't work like that.

The situation is this: if you were a STH last season and you renewed by the (admittedly far-too-early) deadline, next season will cost exactly the same. If you are a member and you renew your membership, individual matchday tickets with the increased discount will only cost £1 more (£25-£2 compared to £23-£1) for 'gold' games and £3 more (£27-£2 compared to £23-£1) for 'platinum' games. The people who will feel the price increases are the supporters who only attend half a dozen or so games a season and have to cherry-pick their games anyway because of work, family commitments, etc. (I'd just like to point out at this point that attending fewer games does not necessarily make you any less of a supporter, in my eyes at least). And I for one think most casual supporters will probably be prepared to pay £4 compared to last season to attend the derby games, Newcastle, etc. or just £2 more for any of the other 17 matches. This is not going to cause some sort of mass desertion. I happen to think football is too expensive, but our prices will really only in line with the going rate for the division we will be in.

Also I don't really think this is going to make every kid in Leicester suddenly start to support one of the bigger Premiership clubs. Season tickets for under-8s will still be free, season tickets for under-12s from £58 (£2.50 per game) and £144 (£6.20 P/G). Matchday prices range generally from £0-£10, with the 6 platimum games being £15 at a maximum for U18s. They are not going to get this at any top premiership club, especially considering most have long waiting lists to get season tickets. This is why at Stamford Bridge only 5% of the crowd are under 18...it is simply too expensive. Kids saying they support the top teams, buying a shirt and not going, etc. have been around for years. If they actually want to go to games I think Leicester still offer much more than the glory clubs.

I'd have preferred to see no price increases, but I don't think this quite as bad as many people are making out.

personally i think this is disgraceful. i have been a STH since 2000/2001, but due to economics i cant afford one this year, especially with the ridiculous early bird offer, more like the not-been-to-bed bird offer! and with the increase on matchday tickets it means that i will get to even less games than i wanted too :( the price increase was expected tbh, but it would have been much easier to swallow if they had reduced the prices when we were relegated. the club (or the PR gurus they are employing, no doubt for vast sums of money) are alienating alot of fans, not only with the price increases and the early bird offer, unreserving your seat at a stupidly early date, the patronising little girl on the tannoy before kickoff, chelsea bloody dagger, the over-zealous stewards etc etc. i just think that if the club are not careful they are going to lose alot of fans on a matchday basis, and then they will have to have a huge rethink on some of their policies to win those fans back.

Unfortunatley these are problems with football in general these days, not just Leicester City.

agree on that totally, its the all-american plastic experience, however the club could help to not alienate fans, for example, increasing prices whilst at the same time praising the fans for their loyalty and holding us to ransom over the ST renewal deadline. i just think its sad that the powers that be seemingly think so little of the fans that keep the club alive, and makes me a little bit angry too.

Hmmm....well after a season watching Atherstone Town last season having not been able to afford or indeed justify paying £23 to see Yeovil, Walsall etc....this move is deffo a push towards increasing the number of season ticket holders and i'll be one of 'em, think it works out at £17 a game, dunno if they still charge booking fees but if so, we're looking at £28.50 for platinum games? so its a tenner in my pocket which just about pays for my fuel driving from the royal province of atherstoneshire.

Strange that West Brom (does anyone really care about them?) have been chosen as a platinum game...and yet Coventry hasnt, and I think making the boro game platinum will backfire, many wont bother if there's nothing to play for.

By the time those 'orrible sods at sky have ripped the fixture schedule to pieces and stuck us v plymouth on a monday night, wonder if the club will revive the fans fixture for game such as that?

The July 4th sale of the century! is another smart move, who's to say that we wont get battered every week? obviously hope not but there you are holding a ticket for a game 4 months in advance, wonder if they will tighten up the refunds policy as they do with gig tickets?

You deserve to watch championship football after watching Atherstone all season, what do you make of Jimmy getting the sack. I think if you scratch the surface in Atherstone there a a fair few foxes fans.

It's more about these things for me.

Personally I'd pay 40 quid a pop for something akin to Filbert Street, even if I had to sell my own grandma. Even if we got dicked on, I think very few walked away from a match there thinking about the price of the tickets. Most times I leave the Walkers, often even if we've put in a good win, I wonder if it was really worth the money for tickets and travel. An extra 4 quid certainly doesn't help that.

well said spot on does the club know there is a credit crunch on i bought the early bird season ticket renewed 26 years on the trot but next year it may be a different story just hope with these higher prices we are going to get some class players in not has beens looking for a pay cheque like before

It's all well and good saying that it's only £1-£3 extra if you get a membership, but the club haven't even announced how much memberships cost!! Last season I got the £99 platinum plus membership which gave me 5 matchday vouchers, are they going to do the same again this season? If not, how much is a bloody membership going to cost?

The PR geniuses at Leicester City have again ballsed up by not actually telling us about the different membership schemes.

To be fair, I'll blag under 18's piss easy and at a tenner that seems excellent value.

I'd say 10 or so home games will be worth it this season for me with travelling issues so thats £100. Only problem is finding a place in the ground to stand freely with a decent bunch with L1 being ST only.

Should of just kept the prices we already had. More fans will turn up now because we are playing at a higher level anyway, and there are enough big games like Swansea, Forest, Cov, Derby, Newcastle, West Brom etc. that more fans will turn out for. Our average attendance this season will be 24,000 odd, my guess.

Grr.

I'm so angry everything isn't free.

Grr.

I even went to two away games last season as well.

Bloody grr.

Where has anyone said they want anything for free? Yet again you want to draw your own conclusions to everyone's elses comments.

The club has clearly made a mistake by saying that it's only a £1-3 increase in matchday tickets if you have a membership when they haven't even told us how much a membership costs. Can you justify that?

Scoff Scoff

I can afford a season ticket and therefore I am the only type of fan who is allowed to be aggrieved by the price hike.

Scoff. I've just scoffed on my Alpen.

I believe the A217 Humour By-pass rejoins the main carriageway in seven miles.

lol

You're another one that thinks £4 will make an 8,000 person difference on the attendance. Get real.

Also, you're another one that thinks that the 'credit crunch' only affects consumers. Come on, businesses struggle too.

If you're a STH it doesn't matter anyway...
