C-man Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 I boo'd him. He deserved it for the shit Leicester banter.
Joe. Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 S'only a bit of banter isn't it? I think Ponting knows that as well, and probably likes it. We might moan about how we all think he's a nob, but there's also a lot of respect for the guy from everyone.
Corky Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Who the fuck is Jonathan Trott? Plays for Warwickshire.
Fox You Forest Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 He's a decent batsmen, nothing special. Just a back up now Bell is in for KP. Yet another non English born player.

Brainy Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Trott has been awesome lately for Warwickshire. Not surprised.
Ultra Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2009/aug/0...nottinghamshire :worship: :worship: Please be true Sidebottom will only make the side if Freddie is unfit.
Edmund Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Sidebottom will only make the side if Freddie is unfit. Someone get a hammer to Flintoffs leg asap. Anything to see those long locks of curls dancing in the wind
Matt Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Go on Trott, Take the piss out the Aussies, Try and do this again! Oh FFS, can't seem to post in on here for some reason, here's a link -
Corky Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Sidebottom will only make the side if Freddie is unfit. I think he'll be fit. If we win this Test, he may retire after the game, or just play the fifth Test as a batsman.
Hitesh Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Sports pages in the papers today are reporting on the ECB asking the fans to stop booing Ponting! I think its disrespectful to boo him, even though I can't stand him, but the banter is part of the game so should stick around. I think the ECB have taken it a bit too far in banning musical instruments though! A guy from the Barmy Army has been on SSN saying he can't go with his trumpet and probably won't be able to go - not really the way this should be handled to be honest! I think the ECB have made too much of a fuss about it and should just have a few signs at the game or something to say booing opposing is disrespectful, rather than going to the media!

I think the ECB have made too much of a fuss about it and should just have a few signs at the game or something to say booing opposing is disrespectful, rather than going to the media! I suppose cricket has always been a bit more gentlemanly than say football. Almost on the same par as rugby in terms of respect. Banning the trumpet player is taking it to far but I think booing is a bit out of the context of cricket in general so should not be carried out. Saying that in India the support has been known to turn against players and has actually turned violent as the passion levels run high. The main problem is the open sale of alcohol at these events. That hand in hand with the growing rivalry and the more publicity The Ashes is receiving is bound to upset someone along the line. The Ashes is now well documented by the media so players actions are scrutinised especially when you have a controversial captain in Ponting. Im not saying ban alcohol at these events as that would ruin it for the majority but people who attend need to understand that they should show respect whilst having fun. Without the banter the atmosphere would be awful.

I don't think the booing was meant to be malicious, just to put him off a bit. Ponting has said as much himself.
Fox You Forest Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 It's not the ECB banning the trumpet, It's the H&S officer at Headingley isn't it.
Fosse Boy Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 I don't think the booing was meant to be malicious, just to put him off a bit.Ponting has said as much himself. This. Do you think the crowds in Oz have ever afforded English players the same "respect" that we're all supposed to be giving now? Sure, these Barmy Army types can be a bit obnoxious and offensive to the "crusty old Etonian in his blazer and tie" mould of cricket viewer, but at the end of the day their banter is harmless and they'll respect the spirit of the game as much as any true lover of the sport would. If Ponting (or any of the Aussies) made a hundred or had an outstanding display with the ball, the majority would applaud their efforts. A bit of sledging and banter is good for you, it toughens you up. Why the can't the men in suits just let the crowd get on with it for fuck's sake? The ruling classes of cricket really can be complete ****** sometimes.
purpleronnie Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Just been listening to the news online and they mentioned they are clamping down on fan behaviour for the next test. The muppet in charge actually said they didnt want the Australian players to feel uncomfortable! WHY? Isnt that the whole point of home advantage. Dear oh dear, I feel for british sports fans I really do. I have to say the opposite is true over here.

Even Shane Watson has come out and said that the Aussie's enjoy the banter, it all add's to the spectacle of The Ashes. I love seeing the fan's chanting at one another, some brilliant videos on youtube of the Barmy Army v Aussie fanatics. I bet Ricky Ponting loves it going out to bat and get's booed, I know I would like it.
