surrifox Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Some good entertainment before the inevitable. agreed shame about the people with tickets for days 4 and 5 though. Time for the selectors to do their job properly by fecking bopara and bell out of it and sending harmison off to retirement. This aussie attack is little better than mediocre and underlines just how piss poor the batting has been in this match. Lets hope flintoff is fit for the oval, play trott or key- the message to aspiring England players otherwise is no matter how shite bell and boprara bat and how few runs they score we will always pick them ahead of you
C-man Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Someone has e-mailed in to SSN saying: 'I agree with Justin Langer, the English batsmen aren't strong enough mentally.... bring back Trescothick!'
Brainy Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I'm struggling to think of one player (other than maybe Matt Prior) who should be retained for the Oval test.
purpleronnie Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I don't understand the big deal with the langer 'folders'? Anyway, I'm in 2 minds about changing the middle order I guess they will only look to replace bopara, the only player I would put in would be Key, but the other half thinks Bopara is due a big score.
Sparky Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Trescothick , Ramprakash and Butcher all selected for 5th test
Corky Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I think Flintoff will be in for the last Test, hopefully go out with a bang. Bopara should be dropped, our middle order does look brittle without Pietersen and Flintoff.
Flynny Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Trescothick Strauss Cook Key Trott Collingwood Prior Flintoff Broad Anderson Harmison Onions Never happen but I'd like to see it.

Joe. Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Question is who's going to come in now? No doubt Bopara will be out for the final test, and Harmison will be lucky to keep his place. Bell and Cook as well perhaps? No idea who they're going to replace them with though, most likely Trott or maybe even somebody like Rob Key?
TrickyTrev Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Rob Key is one of those players that gets better and better the less people can remember him bat. Flintoff in for Harmison and Trott in for Bell, try and beg Tresco to give us one last game in replacement of Bopara.
Milky Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 People keep saying to me, get this one out, get that one out. Then i say, ok, so who'd you bring in to replace them? Oh err....err.. Part time cvnts
Joe. Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Rob Key is one of those players that gets better and better the less people can remember him bat. Flintoff in for Harmison and Trott in for Bell, try and beg Tresco to give us one last game in replacement of Bopara. Yeah Flintoff wil be back if he's fit no doubt. The next obvious is Trott for Bopara. Now it's up to them whether they want to keep Bell in the side or not; if there's no sufficient replacement then he'll more than likely keep his place.
Nugent Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Ramprakash in, finished on 135 n.o today. Experienced, and knows the ground well.
dandannieldanok Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Why are people talking about Marcus Trescothick!?! He quit because he couldn't handle the pressure, yet people want him to play in the fifth and deciding test of an Ashes series.

Flintoff in for Harmison and Trott in for Bell, try and beg Tresco to give us one last game in replacement of Bopara. Key's not got a good record but he's talented, has matured, and can't be worse than Bopara or Bell. I'd sooner see Trott in, mind (or Tresco, though I definitely don't see that one happening) since his form's a bit patchy this season.
Flynny Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Why are people talking about Marcus Trescothick!?! He quit because he couldn't handle the pressure, yet people want him to play in the fifth and deciding test of an Ashes series. Completely different things. He quit because he couldn't handle the pressure of touring on his depression, not the pressure of batting in test cricket. To suggest he was ever a mentally weak batsman does great discredit to his record.

Technicalities in reality, the last thing you want against the Aussies is someone who has proven to lack mental toughness, nevermind the fact he isn't in that good form.

It's not the same thing in the slightest. You must know someone who's been mentally ill in some way and certain things set them off? Being away from his family and home and batting are completely different things, which is why he's still thriving in the game. He's a mentally tough batsman who has troubles outside the game.
surrifox Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 the difficulty the selectors face is that they have to find someone to bat at 3. no point picking trott to bat there. As far as I'm concerned bopara couldn't bat against this attack even when they were crap- (see tests 1-3) now they are getting better he is not suddenly going to get that elusive score he's been threatening- he is just getting less and less confident and his technical flaws are becoming obvious even to that dullard ponting. When bell made a scratchy score in the last test courtesy of 2 ridiculous umpiring decisions you knew that the selectors would use that to keep him in. We have a chance to win the series and reclaim the ashes that won't happen by just hoping something turns up . forget contunuity and investment in the future and all the other excuses for inaction- the aussies binned world beater Philip Hughes when freddie and co worked him out we must be positive in selection too I really don't particularly mind if Ramprakash or Key are recalled to bat 3 - Ramprakash will always bat well at the oval and made an ashes 100 there some time ago against mcgrath and co and is nearing the end of his career-we must show some intent; if flintoff is unfit to play the side will be unbalanced in any event we must do our best to bat well at the top of the innings
