StanSP Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 can't agree more, don't know exactly what it is about him, but he's a cvnt!! the whole ITV footy set up has always been a poor cousin to the beeb, looking forward to their coverage this season.went to the special olympics opening ceremony last sat (not as a competitor! ) and the pitch looked fantastic. Bring it on!!! Hate the way Matt Smith presents as well. Pauses after every couple of words
leicesterseddon Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 Hate the way Matt Smith presents as well. Pauses after every couple of words Yes! It's. So. Annoying. (although he's nowhere near as bad as Tony Blair) BBC set-up looks good - glad it's on iplayer as well. And I'm also glad they've included 'Football League' in the naming of the show - ITV's highlights package showed League 1 and 2 highlights, but they insisted on just calling it 'the Championship'. Stupid stupid stupid...

Stupid stupid stupid... You. Mean. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid... I like what I'm reading about BBC's coverage. I'm not expecting a great deal of difference in the highlights length overall but I'm glad that there will be a higher level of quality in the production of the programme!

jonw88 Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 Thank fook it's been taken away from ITV, no more twatting Clive Tyldesley ruining football matches, undoubtedly the worst commentator in history.

StanSP Posted 28 July 2009 Posted 28 July 2009 Clive Tyldesley can't even commentate properly on a Charity Match

Fez of Mahrez Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Filbert getting a walk-on part. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8175365.stm I actually laughed out loud at that. Can't decide whether that makes me retarded or not. The visuals of football mascots working in an office just made me chortle.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Along with David Pleat giving his blabble made it the worst commentary pairing in history! David Pleat, God what a tosser. Talks shite throughout and it isnt even relevant! Rather have the sound on mute.
CosbehFox Posted 29 July 2009 Posted 29 July 2009 Some of them. Most so far include Newcastle. We haven't been selected yet. 2 Forest, 2 Newcastle I can't see the content being a whole different from the Championship except they might give a few more highlights for the big games of the day and one report from the bottom two leagues. I think the production values will be a lot more higher but bar that I don't think a lot will change. It's difficult attempting to cover 8 fixtures in just over 90 minutes for the Premiership. So the balance will always be difficult. At least the BBC are at least developing a team and look like they appreciate the coverage.

Ideally, it would be a 75-90 minute show, with 10-15 minute highlights from one game from each league, plus a round up, but hey Ian, keep dreaming. I won't complain though, thank god they have taken it away from ITV, the coverage will be better, plus the coverage will be treated well. With ITV, I think they got annoyed because football was getting in the way of their adverts And at least we get extended highlights on their Carling Cup show on the 12th But don't be surprised if they show as their main game on the first highlights show Newcastle-WBA, yes, 4 hours after it has been watched, they go and show highlights.

I personally feel they should introduce an extended 90 minute to 2 hour show on BBC3 on the Monday night. Give them more time for editing, the other fixtures will be complete and you'll have more time to fit everything. Say a hour for CCC, thirty minutes for L1 and L2. Simples. They will have the coverage, it just means more studio work.
StanSP Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 Alot of the stuff has already been mentioned, but they've added some new features (Matchday commentary for example) and it just clarifies how coverage is collected and viewed online etc... http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/sporteditors/20..._highlight.html Mod can move this to somewhere appropriate if it doesn't warrant a new thread

For those lazy to click the link... The rights to highlight Post categories: BBC Sport, Football, Internet Lewis Wiltshire | 11:04 UK time, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 The BBC Sport website has delivered some major projects in the past few years - World Cups, Olympics, big breaking news stories - but I would argue that none have been as complex and wide-ranging as the Football League coverage which launches this week. The BBC won the rights to be a broadcast partner of the Football League back in 2007, as part of a joint bid with Sky, who will be the primary rights holder. Thus, from Saturday 8 August 2009, there will be a TV highlights show on Saturday nights on BBC TV after Match of the Day ("The Football League Show") wrapping up all the games from that day's matches in the Championship, League One and League Two, and on top of that, there will be an awful lot of highlights to watch for UK users on this website. Namely, this website will be bringing you video highlights of every game in the Coca Cola Football League, Carling Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy. That is quite a simple way of stating what you will see on bbc.co.uk/football. How it gets there is a little more complicated. BBC Sport is in partnership with an independent production company, IMG, as well as BT, on this project. Hence all of the 'film' (the industry term is "rushes") captured by the camera operators at each and every ground is sent to BT Tower in central London on the evening of the game. Here the rushes are edited into neat packages, ready for publication on the website at midnight the following day. So, I will take a moment to clarify that, because it is not an easy thing to explain. We are allowed to publish from midnight the day after matches. We will try to get some content up on the stroke of midnight, but most of it will go live the following morning. That means, if your team plays on a Saturday in any of the competitions I outlined above, you can expect to see a video edit of that game (approx two-five minutes) on this website when you get to your desk at 9am on Monday mornings. If your game is on a Tuesday night, check in with us on the Thursday morning. Sunday game? We should be showing that to you on Tuesday mornings. You get the picture! In addition to the match edits, we will also offer a video edit rounding up all of the games from each division (one edit for each division) after each full programme of fixtures. If you really cannot wait to see your team's goals online, there are two other options I can point you to. The Saturday night Football League Show will be on the BBC iPlayer from Sunday mornings, and a lot of club websites will be offering their own games earlier than we are allowed to, mostly (I believe) on a subscription basis. The BBC will also have 10 live Championship games on TV this season, plus one leg of each Carling Cup semi-final, and the final itself. Each of those live games will be streamed on this website (again, for UK users only), starting with West Brom v Newcastle this coming Saturday; two of Sir Bobby Robson's clubs and, coming so soon after his death, it should be a poignant occasion. Beyond video, this site will also see some changes to the way we present live football coverage this season. It used to be the case that our match previews used to become a bit, well, empty while the match was going on. We used to put "Match report to follow later" there, while a separate page carried a feed of live data, which we get from the Press Association who have reporters at every ground. Hardly an ideal user experience. Well, we think we've fixed that now. When you read our match previews you will effectively be looking at what will become a 'match centre' for that game. When the game starts, all the live data from PA will feed straight into that page, and the report will also appear there, and then finally, after the delay outlined above, the video from that match. Some of this content - principally the live data from PA - will be available on our mobile site for the first time. You should also see a bunch of new features including live scores modules on the right-hand side of our much-loved text commentaries; as-it-stands tables which means every time a goal goes in, the table will automatically update to show how things would look if the score stayed that way; an easy-to-view guide on club pages to your team's last three games, next three games, and others. Most of these new features will update automatically without you needing to wear out your put-upon F5 key! I have probably bored all but our most fanatical users into submission by now, so I shall stop, but I'm happy to answer any queries about Football League coverage on the web, or any other aspect of our website, and if your question is about the TV coverage, I am not responsible for that, but I'll see if I can find the answer - or get somebody more qualified to post here. Lewis. PS - it's been a while since we updated this Sport Editors Blog. Sorry. I tend to think that a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff on the website is a little dry! Plus a lot of our TV 'talent' now have blogs where a lot of issues to do with TV coverage tend to get discussed, eg Jake Humphrey's blog. Hence this area has become a little neglected. But I am happy to blog here if there's enough interest. I also won't take any offence if you choose to tell me that having read this one, you're happy to not see any more!

Am I missing something? The link you posted said: "the right and obligation to show on a weekly basis during each season, not less than sixty (60) minutes of highlights programming, to include as much of the Match action played in that week as possible, with a maximum of 20 minutes of Footage from any Match." That means the programme will be at least one hour long, not exactly one hour long. The programme this Saturday for instance is 80 minutes long. It also means that the longest highlights of any match will be 20 minutes, but not necessarily that every week there will be a game that lasts 20 minutes.
Ultra Posted 5 August 2009 Posted 5 August 2009 One weakness in the BBC's coverage is that they've said the highlights show will NOT run on the weekends of international fixtures. Fans of clubs in Leagues 1 and 2 are understandably miffed about this. But at least it's not something for us to worry about..
