davieG Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 From their OS - http://www.mtfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,1...1723409,00.html This season the BBC have won the rights to show highlights for both the Football League and Carling Cup and the Silkmen's tie with Leicester has been chosen to be shown in the first round as a full BBC highlights package. Leicester City visit the Moss Rose on Wednesday 12th August at 7.45pm, and the game will be the Silkmen's first home match of the campaign. So, could there be a shock on the cards? The Silkmen defeated Championship opposition at this stage last season as Blackpool were beaten 2-0. Bolton Wanderers and Barnsley have also been first round victories for the Silkmen, so perhaps the BBC believe there is the possibility of another giant-killing here in Macclesfield. Ticket prices for the match will be announced next week.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 I would've thought that we would get highlights anyway but that good.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Great news.... my LCFC media archive will be further expended, yay to the BBC Also, see this... BBC One brings Football League fans across the country unrivalled coverage of their team next season with a new Saturday night programme called the Football League Show, which will showcase all the goals from the Championship, League One and League Two.The Football League Show begins on Saturday 8 August 2009 at 11.10pm. Live coverage of the Football League also returns to the BBC for the first time since 1988. Ten matches from the Championship will be shown live. The League Cup Final also returns to the BBC with live coverage for the first time since 1987. One leg of each semi-final will also be shown live, as well as network highlights from every round. Highlights of the end-of-season play-offs will bring the season to a dramatic conclusion. With action from the Premier League on Match Of The Day and BBC Radio 5 Live, the BBC will provide sports fans with access to all the goals and all the action, the length and breadth of the country, featuring – for the first time – all 92 clubs from the English leagues. Fans won't miss a thing with comprehensive multi-platform coverage on TV, radio, online, via the red button and on BBC iPlayer. From the BBC Press Office Good stuf too, now all they need to do is give us a highlights show for MIDWEEK fixtures, and it will be perfect-a-mundo!
jonw88 Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Great news.... my LCFC media archive will be further expended, yay to the BBC Also, see this... From the BBC Press Office Good stuf too, now all they need to do is give us a highlights show for MIDWEEK fixtures, and it will be perfect-a-mundo! So it'll be on Saturday nights at 11.10pm, won't this clash with them showing Match of The Day? Unless they're going to show that earlier now? Midweek goals would be brilliant too.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 That's unbeknown yet Of course their first show won't have MOTD in the way, that starts a week later. I expect TFLS (better get used to that) will be shunted to 11:50 or so, when MOTD starts at 10:30pm, unless they intend to bring the Prem highlights forward to 10pm. We won't know what their firm and proper arrangements are until the listings come out for the 15th August. And yes, midweek goals would be brilliant, even put it on the red button if there is no room on the mainstream channels... midweek goals are a nightmare to try and get into the archive, have to rely on the regional news, and sometimes they are shocking! Please BBC, this is what I (by I, I mean my parents) pay my licence fee for!
Koke Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 cue embarrassing first round exit That only happens to Derby. On the subject, good news regarding the BBC highlights.
Joe. Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Good to have some in-depth highlights Doubt we'll get too much in depth really if they're showing League One/Two goals as well every week. I may be wrong, but I can't really see us having much more than what teams got on The Championship unless they're the featured game.
leicesterseddon Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Doubt we'll get too much in depth really if they're showing League One/Two goals as well every week. I may be wrong, but I can't really see us having much more than what teams got on The Championship unless they're the featured game. I'm hoping that will change - that was the main problem with the championship, where they sent matt smith & the cameras to a pre-determined 'main' match and gave it 20 mins (even though on most occasions the 'main' match was not actually the most exciting), with the other games getting 20 seconds. Such a bad way of doing the highlights imo.
Webbo Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 I'm guessing that the length of the highlights will be down to contractual issues. I don't think most matches will get anymore time than they got last season under ITV.
Bluefoxtim Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 The BBC did a great job of looping FA cup goals on the red button. There is usually at least one of the red button streams free during the week, so would be great if they could loop all the football league goals?
Ford Super Sunday Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 I'm hoping that will change - that was the main problem with the championship, where they sent matt smith & the cameras to a pre-determined 'main' match and gave it 20 mins (even though on most occasions the 'main' match was not actually the most exciting), with the other games getting 20 seconds. Such a bad way of doing the highlights imo. From the wording of the tender document, it seems that it won't change from the ITV format... The right and obligation to show on a weekly basis during each season, not less than sixty (60) minutes of highlights programming, to include as much of the Match action played in that week as possible, with a maximum of 20 minutes of Footage from any Match. The sixty minutes of programming may be broken down into more than one programme during the week. Each highlights programme must be shown as close to the Match action it relates to as possible, preferably on the same day as the Matches concerned are played provided that highlights of Matches broadcast live on the day of the highlights programme may not be broadcast before two hours after the end of the Match. Any highlights programme featuring Matches played on a Saturday must be broadcast between 22.00 that day and 12.00 noon the following day (Sunday). So the BBC will be allowed to show a main match, but of course, whether they choose to is another thing. I would prefer 4 main games at 5 minutes each rather than 1 game at 20 minutes, or well, more than one game. In fact, a 5-6 minute main game from EACH division wouldn't go amiss. I suppose we'll have to wait thought, but it does sound a lot more promising and exciting than The Championship last year, such a crap programme, they kept having all these football highlights getting in the way of their adverts...
Bluefoxtim Posted 16 July 2009 Posted 16 July 2009 Can't wait for the day when ITV lose all the football rights and Andy Townsend gets removed from our screens. I hate that man with a passion
