lou Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.uk/news...il/article.html My view is she was given a 4 bed house to raise her family when she needed it, now she lives alone its only right to go to a family. I do have some sympathy for her but I cant feel its right for basically one person to take up such a big property. Im guessing this is one that will wind up a few people
davieG Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Seems a bit extreme, surely they should take into account her family life style and compromise on a 2/3 bedroom exchange.
Ultra Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 The problem is, she doesn't want to move. And her neighbours might well be quite keen for her to stay put. But many other grandmothers of her age are living in horrendously overcrowded conditions. Family accommodation is notoriously difficult to come by, especially in that particular area of the city.
Dr The Singh Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 I agree with the council, but she should be given a suitable 2 bed alternative!!

Fair enough but surely not justification to do the same to her - compromise and find her a 2/3 bed option.
Daggers Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Two Grandmas to a room, the council should lob another seven old dears into the house. They could all bitch about the price of tea together and pass comment on the young appearance of policemen these days.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 I don't see what the problem is. IT'S NOT HER HOUSE. It doesn't matter how long she's lived there, it belongs to the local authority, who are obliged to use their housing stock responsibly and allocate resources according to need. My three bedroom house is arguably a bit big for me, but I paid for the bastard
Daggers Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 My three bedroom house is arguably a bit big for me Get out!
Webbo Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 This happened to my grandma in New Parks. She was moved to a 1 bed bungalow and was quite pleased about it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Our council don't force people to leave in a situation like this. What they would do in this case, would be to offer her a two bedroom house, pay removal costs, and give her £1,000.-£1500. I know this would be the case because I work in conjunction with our council's Housing Dept., and have come across numerous such cases. No way would this grandmother be forced to leave.
Bryn Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 I think it's sad but ultimately necessary, young families need homes.
Guest Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 What are the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement? Does it have provisions for the council to rehouse under such circumstances?
DB11 Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 She don't need four beds. Although, on her side, she might have lived there for ages and have memories? But, hmmmmmmmmm, she should own the house then. I side with Council!
Guest Posted 20 July 2009 Posted 20 July 2009 Has she gone yet? She's taking more time to leave than DJ
