Salieri Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 I`m sure the manager is trying his damndest to bring a striker or two in, but with strikers in particular, you tend to end up having to pay over the odds, in transfer fees and wages, and i`m not sure we`re willing to do that anymore.Dare i say it, but i think milan, may have learnt his lesson, with the dj transfer. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet though, and take the risk, if you want to progress. I feel a bit sorry for pearson, cos at the min, i dont believe milan has really backed him enough, with the money to compete for a play off spot, and make no mistake, that is what milan will expect, and if it dont happen, milan will start getting a bit twitchy again! You love, your commas, don't, you! Fair points though.
lou Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Why is this tread still going, we all know he isn't going to sign. coming from you this is hilarious, Im sorry!
flanimal Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 coming from you this is hilarious, Im sorry! I was waiting for someone to pick up on the irony my statement!
bjblyth Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 The Sun quoted Kevin Phillips today saying something along the lines of 'I am happy playing with Birmingham City' and saying he enjoys working with the younger lads coming through the ranks at the club. KP = a no no.
MPH Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Phillips would be a terrific signing, but we need someone with pacers. You can imagine someone like Phillips helping Fryatt with his finishing and movement. He may be in his late thirties, but he's got a proven record in this division and can probably play for another few years. I can't see it happening though. stick a packet of these in his back pocket and he will be off like a rocket..... used to love these as a kid...
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Going off quotes from way back in early July, Mandaric and Pearson had identified the striker position as a place to improve on. So we know they having attempting to get a striker in. If you have noticed in the media, a lot of other clubs are after strikers. In fact, Swansea, our first opposition are after a striker too. We probably haven't been able to loan anyone in as most clubs like to field their youngsters in a number of friendlies to see their stage of development before loaning them August time. Finally, Pearson's developing a squad/team, banging a load of guys together hasn't worked previously under Allen or Holloway and Mandaric will not be tempted (and I think NP shares his concern) in signing players on over inflated transfer fees (interestingly Cox hasn't scored once during pre-season). Simply, getting a striker in is not through the club's lack of ambition, more that we are no longer the attractive option we once was due to a season at a lower level despite trying various options. Do you seriously think that the manager just sits there thinking we'll be alright? Many other managers also have this dilemma, but my guess is that we don't appear ambitious enough to many players. Nigel's lack of success in his search for a proven goal scorer, even at League One level, has not exactly done much for my confidence.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 You have no coherent arguments. You are here only to antagonise. You do not respond to intelligent critiques of your non-sensical posts. Your opinions are aggressive and put over in a manner that is not appropriate. You have now achieved DB11 status and have been put on block. Well done. Quite an achievement. People on this site think you are foolish. I am but one of them. N. Don't beat about the bush, man, come to the point.
Dan Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 maybe.... just maybe... all these links with players are just a smoke screen for an absolute gem of a player to come in..Im expecting NP to announce he capture of a 6ft 6 built like an outhouse prolific yet pacey but with the ability to leap in the air like a gazelle striker real gem of a find local hero from a Congolese part time team to be announced any day soon... I love that post but hate the fact its got my hopes right up for them to more than likely be dissapointed
Tommeh Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 1st I'd heard on this...Every single year people write this guy off and every year he scores 1 in 2 minimum then pre season comes around and everyone says he's had it, fook off!!! Still on of the finest strikers around for the money in my opinion. Find me someone better for under £1m and I'll chat.

Can't see him coming here though purely because Brum won't sell him.

CosbehFox Posted 4 August 2009 Posted 4 August 2009 Many other managers also have this dilemma, but my guess is that we don't appear ambitious enough to many players. And the majority of them can't get one in also. Look at Ipswich, Swansea, Barnsley. There's three examples of clubs in the market for a striker but can't get one (in fact, Swansea had a very public rejection). Personally feel that due to the economic situation, the lads who aren't loaded in the division or lower down don't want to move away or rock a good situation they currently have for themselves. As for Cox and others, it's fairly clear we didn't want to be splashing £2 million again on unproven players.
