DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 For those of you who did not enjoy my post above, you are entitled to criticise, and I am happy with that. For those of you who are prepared to let the grass grow under your feet, fine. However, their are some of us on this site who have ambitions for the club!
MPH Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 For those of you who did not enjoy my post above, you are entitled to criticise, and I am happy with that. For those of you who are prepared to let the grass grow under your feet, fine. However, their are some of us on this site who have ambitions for the club! i think you are missing the point completely..... we have just come up from the 1st division... and we want to get players who will get us out of this division... we have teams relegated from the prem to compete with who want players who will get them out of this division and clubs already in this division to compete against who want players who will get them out of this division. parachute payments last for three years... that means there are at least 6-9 teams teams who are getting millions more to spend on players this year than we are thats just the relegated teams not even taking into account those who were in and around the play offs last season. we have to compete with them. we are not that attractive an option for for players wanting to play in the prem - be honest , here, if you were wanting to play in the prem would you choose to sign for a team who were just relegated from the prem, just missed out on promotion wether its the play offs or just outside the play offs... or a team freshly promoted from the 1st division? I think a few leicester fans need to be a bit more realistic.... NP and MM re working VERY hard to bring in strikers. we have been linked with alot because we are going for alot but players are choosing other clubs. NP is facing an uphill struggle but he isnt giving up and good for him!
Joe. Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 If Leicester were interested they would've made an approach by now. Not necessarily, could have depended on how interested we were in Lita. Now it looks as though Lita's going to Middlesbrough, maybe we might turn our attentions elsewhere.
flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 My money would be on someone unknown, foreign and previously unlinked.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 My money would be on someone unknown, foreign and previously unlinked. Maybe.. My money would be on someone loaned out from the top 4 I think.
flanimal Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 My money would be on someone loaned out from the top 4 I think. Any ideas? Which of the top 4 have good viable strikers for us?
Vlad The Impaler Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Any ideas? Which of the top 4 have good viable strikers for us? I don't know but didn't arsene wenger say he was very impressed with how the club was ran and wanted to loan more of his players to us? atleast that's what someone said on here a few months back. Just think it's way more likely than some striker from foreign country coming who we have never been linked with or anything, that's all.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 August 2009 Posted 1 August 2009 Although we all have faith in NP we seem to underestimate him. Remember the Tunchev signing? There was no specualtion about that one it just suddnely happened. I think the same will happen with a new striker too. So he might well be foreign.

I think Kermogant will be our only 'foreign' signing tbh.

There were actually some links in Bulgaria but not in England, what a cracking signing that was. What about Danny Welbeck? He would be ideal.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 I can see Danny playing a part in Manchester United's season. He played against Everton in the cup semi-final (granted that was a half-baked team) But him and Macheda will be understudies to the main strikers, No chance really.
CosbehFox Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 I think it is very poor to have to wait to this stage, with the seasons start a mere week away, not to have got the striker situation sorted out by now. We have had plenty of time to think about who may be suitable. It does look that our club is not exactly appearing very ambitious, to many of it's supporters. I wonder how it is though, that so many people say we have no money to spend? If it is true, then perhaps we will be better off if M.M. quits the club at the end of the season. The likeliness of our even challenging for a top six finish, appears to me, to be extremely remote, unless we invest in a quality striker a.s.a.p. Going off quotes from way back in early July, Mandaric and Pearson had identified the striker position as a place to improve on. So we know they having attempting to get a striker in. If you have noticed in the media, a lot of other clubs are after strikers. In fact, Swansea, our first opposition are after a striker too. We probably haven't been able to loan anyone in as most clubs like to field their youngsters in a number of friendlies to see their stage of development before loaning them August time. Finally, Pearson's developing a squad/team, banging a load of guys together hasn't worked previously under Allen or Holloway and Mandaric will not be tempted (and I think NP shares his concern) in signing players on over inflated transfer fees (interestingly Cox hasn't scored once during pre-season). Simply, getting a striker in is not through the club's lack of ambition, more that we are no longer the attractive option we once was due to a season at a lower level despite trying various options. Do you seriously think that the manager just sits there thinking we'll be alright?

Do you seriously think that the manager just sits there thinking we'll be alright? I`m sure the manager is trying his damndest to bring a striker or two in, but with strikers in particular, you tend to end up having to pay over the odds, in transfer fees and wages, and i`m not sure we`re willing to do that anymore. Dare i say it, but i think milan, may have learnt his lesson, with the dj transfer. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet though, and take the risk, if you want to progress. I feel a bit sorry for pearson, cos at the min, i dont believe milan has really backed him enough, with the money to compete for a play off spot, and make no mistake, that is what milan will expect, and if it dont happen, milan will start getting a bit twitchy again!
MPH Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 maybe.... just maybe... all these links with players are just a smoke screen for an absolute gem of a player to come in.. Im expecting NP to announce he capture of a 6ft 6 built like an outhouse prolific yet pacey but with the ability to leap in the air like a gazelle striker real gem of a find local hero from a Congolese part time team to be announced any day soon...

alanf0x Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 Playing well today in Birmingham's friendly and got on the score sheet....sign him up!
Walshy5 Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 Playing well today in Birmingham's friendly and got on the score sheet....sign him up! I could score against Cheltenham
alanf0x Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 I could score against Cheltenham how come your not playing?!
Scow Posted 2 August 2009 Posted 2 August 2009 Phillips would be a terrific signing, but we need someone with pace. You can imagine someone like Phillips helping Fryatt with his finishing and movement. He may be in his late thirties, but he's got a proven record in this division and can probably play for another few years. I can't see it happening though.
flanimal Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Why is this tread still going, we all know he isn't going to sign.
JoeyB Posted 3 August 2009 Posted 3 August 2009 Why is this tread still going, we all know he isn't going to sign. Sure?
