Ozwin Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Cleverly is going to score against us. I can feel it.
phillcfc Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 There's a lot of negativity about from tonight's game, but surely we should keep it in perspective? We were not at the races until they scored, but thereafter, they had one opportunity and that was right at the end from a poor King pass. They settled for a point as soon as we equalised and were content to sit back and defend so we were always going to struggle to break them down. Although they are at the bottom, they are a good side and their position belies that. Once they've got to grips with the league, they'll soon climb up to mid-table. A point at home to them isn't a terrible result. The formation didn't work in either half - Gallagher and Oakley on the wings in the 2nd half was just ridiculous and offered us no width at all. King was really poor and some people are starting to see Brown for the simplistic player he is - Tunchev was immense tonight so hopefully he'll be back in from now on. Still can't understand the criticism of Fryatt - he's looking a lot quicker and a lot sharper this season. Without him, we'd be scrapping in the bottom 6 right now. Yes he missed a sitter, but he took 2 similar chances very well on Saturday so to get on the guy's back for that is harsh. No other player in our side looks like scoring. If any of the strike force is a cause for concern, it's Howard. Overall we played poorly for the majority, but a draw was a fair result although if anything, we should have won.
MC Prussian Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Right, to me it seems it's easier to slag off someone who's tearing apart a really bad single display of Leicester City than actually discussing the game itself; and then they have the audacity to call it "the usual moaning". Or that we're "worked up about getting results". Eh, it was a crap game, really and we can count ourselves lucky to have gained a point. Praise where praise is due. Same goes for criticism. And we played shit last night. I agree it was a joy seeing Tunchev again and he played really well (can someone enlighten me on Brown's "injury" that had him pulled off. Sounds like an official reason, that one. Or could it be he was substituted because he was so crap?). The love of Berner I can share to a certain point, he's been one of the most consistent players so far, but his performance in the first half was also far from normal level. At least he tried to fight the opposition and get the ball. So far, Pearson had the team lined-up quite cleverly and ready with a gameplan. And that wasn't the case yesterday - against a fellow promoted team that is finding itself at the bottom of the table and, on paper, is one of the weaker ones in this league. And the Fryatt lovers - yes, he's a striker and yes, he's already scored six for us this season (another spectacular penalty last night), but he is utterly frustrating to watch. Part his own mistake, part because he had no real support from the midfield and/or Howard yesterday. Which, again, there's only Pearson to blame for, I'm afraid. Before the game, I thought we should've won this one easily. I was of the opposite opinion at around 9.30pm yesterday. Atmosphere last night - uuh, it's all gone quiet. Very few chants, felt like a graveyard, only the Posh fans responsible for entertainment and L1 only made noise for a short stretch after about 60 minutes played. From where I was sitting, I couldn't believe how empty the stadium was and that more than 22'000 people showed up (I know it's a Tuesday night game) - it looked emptier than against Blackpool and that was already the same attendance. Weird. Btw, this is a critique of a single game. I acknowledge the fact that, overall, we're doing exceptionally well for a recently promoted team, but last night's game was a reminder of hollow times past that I wasn't really ready to face again. It was, in short, a real disappointment. Bring on Watford where we'll be making the noise.
Asha Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Don't know if it's been said, but 2 years ago we'd have lost a game like that. Yes, we didn't play that well in truth, but we did get something from the game and had the chances to get more. Boro could have easily been 3 up in 10 minutes though. Some would say we're lucky to get a point, and I'll take it.

Weird. I think I read in the Foxestalkers you've met thread that you were in SK1/SK2? Well that's why there was no atmosphere. 15 minute ring of fire chant was the highlight of L1 last night, cracking atmosphere. My experience of the kop was that you've got about 7 lads at the top of SK1 trying to make some noise, and that's it.
colbo68 Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 If, like Nigel Pearson, I was paid thousands of pounds a week to manage Leicester City I would try to do two things without fail. I would try everything in my power to win the games and I would try to get my players to look like they were enjoying playing the game they supposedly love.In Pearson's limpid approach tonight neither aspect was apparent. In fact, bit by bit and Fryatt apart, Pearson seemed to have stripped our team of everyone that might make things happen. Granted our team is mostly solid, organised and professional but it is fast becoming boring as can be and try as I might I cannot remember their goalkeeper having one serious save to make - and that with us being at home. In a way I'm even pleased Fryatt misssed his sitter. Why he missed it and how he missed it I've no idea but had we won I'd have had to put up with endless posters declaring a win is a win and defending the manager's choice of team because we got the right result. And all that would have done was to have created a smokescreen to mask not just our limitations but our total lack of flair and ambition. We had as much up-and-into-em as a flaccid cock. To me it seemed that Pearson selected his chosen men whatever affect it had on the side cos what the hell we were doing playing Gallagher halfway wide at times, instead of a proper winger on the left, I don't know. And even the one specialist winger we used has been right out of form and continued in the same vein. Gone was all the flair, the imagination and the willingness to try things that was sometimes shown last season. What we had tonight was half a team who just played the averages and never exposed their heads above the parapet to be seen to make mistakes. Brown gave away a needless penalty for Peterborough's goal and it was only after they'd score that we stirred ourselves to threaten at all. The centre-back's departure did, though, allow the return of Tunchev calm authority and willingness to pass was a rare light in a dark night football wise. Kingy was another minor plus. Yes, I know he nearly gave the game away with a careless header near the end (not that any of his colleagues were looking for the ball and he uncharacteristically mistplaced a couple of passes to Neilson. But it was only once he arrived that the team started passing the ball constructively and showing any cohesion. Unfortunately there was no-one up front with the devil, pace or energy to disturb a packed Peterborough defence. Gradel, the kid who never stops trying things and would frustrate beyond belief but finally pull off a mastertouch of magic and illuminate the ground with expressions of delight was gone and nowhere to be seen. Adams, another who was recently showing such positive form and looking like a guaranteed uncomfortable afternoon for any defender, was left on the bench. DJ with his impishness, his pace and his goals galore almost every time he's played since last Christmas remained in exile for a mach that was crying out for his sort harrassment and elusiveness. Dyer, source of so many goals and assists last season was not used either and what we were left with was a mismatch of Joe Average players offering the footballing equivalent of cold tea with a slice or two of bread and dripping when we might have expected a feast. Why? What the hell have they all done wrong? And why have we half-filled our side with such indifferent replacements. There really was no excuse cos when the highlight of a home game was Fryatt sending a penalty in the opposite corner to the goalkeeper's dive for our equaliser it really is pathetic. But that, and Wellens brilliant volleyed pass which might have fashioned a goal for a better striker trhan the recipient, really was it cos Fryatt's one-on-one miss being more an incident than a highlight and one that perhaps sums up why so many of us get frustrated with the guy and cannot really decide if he's a good 'un or not. Positives? I'm struggling. One serious shot for the visiting keeper to save (which I missed), barely a couple of moves you'd call constructive or slick, endless nondescript performances...it was bloody horrible and not something any manager should want to be either responsible for or associated with. It's not that I cannot stand bad performances or people making mistakes. Any supporter of Leicester has had to get well used to them over recent years. But failing to even rouse ourselves and make any serious effort to put on a show was pathetic. And you won't put on any sort of show if all the flair players are ignored. Two more points dropped for no reason, making at least five so far. It's almost like self-mutilation and the sooner we realise it will have fatal consequences for our promotion push the better. superb post - really can't disagree with any of this
eaststandtom Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 i am encouraged by last nights game. even though it was a little scrappy in places city still played some decent stuff going forward. i do doubt pearsons decision to play gallagher (a loss and 1st non win at home this season but maybe thats just nit picking) on the left but maybe the there is logic in that. city certainly need more attacking options in the championship than just howard and fryatt this season. i think gallaghers floating role in the 2nd half could become effective and we were better in the 2nd half with him there even though he didnt have a blinder he still did some neat stuff and was part of some good little interplay with king, wellens and oakley. nige is tinkling with the formation/tactics a little for which there are fors and againsts compared to the championship performances of previous seasons city played like brazil last night. it shows how well we've been doing this season that fans can come away feeling a little disappointed. that is progress!
Walsho Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Avid reader of the boards but have never posted until now after not believing what I’ve been reading!! Somehow I don’t think I’m going to make many friends after what I’m about to say but I’ve just got to get a few things off my chest. I’m actually in a state of shock of how negative some of you are.....THRACIAN you need to be put in a straight jacket!! How can u call yourself a Leicester “Fan” after writing such a long, negative, pointless and clueless post in history?? Talk about an overreaction!! Let me take u back to the end of the 2007-2008 season when Stoke City put the final nail in the coffin of what can only be described as a horrific previous 5 yrs of constant change of management & player. Thankfully Mandaric made an astute appointment of what I think is one of England’s best young managers in the Country....Nigel Pearson. Sir Nigel did in one pre-season what the club has needed since the horrid times of Taylor etc!! He’s got rid of ALL the veterans coming to City for their final payday, got rid of any deadwood and put together a good group of hardworking, organised, talented group of players that COULD, with some SUPPORT and guidance, put us in with a shout of the playoffs this season and as “fans” we could also play a big part! Last season we walked League one, breaking records along the way and this week went a whole 12 months of being unbeaten at home. How many other teams in the Country or Europe for this matter have a record like that?? I think some of you forget very quickly how far we have come in the last season and instead of being negative (THRACIAN!!!) after one “off” night (which we still didn’t lose), why not get behind the team a bit and also certain individual players and give them confidence rather than just moaning and looking at the bad points all the time. THRACIAN how can you even say that your glad that Fryatt missed his chance so you don’t have to put up with “endless posters declaring a win is a win and defending the manager's choice of team because we got the right result.” YOU’RE A JOKE MATE!!! You talk as if your some sort of Leicester City Messiah that knows it all....”Nigel Pearson is clueless, the team are cr*p, I want to hang myself because we’ve had one off game, BLAH BLAH BLAH!! Look at the start we’ve had. 7 games 12 points and could quite easily have been more with some luck in certain games. Not really a catastrophic start is it??? Ask any Ipswich fan if they would rather be in our shoes or theirs?? Ok, the game plan last night didn’t come off, but you talk as if we didn’t have a chance in the game, we were the worst team in history, Nigel Pearson is clueless and Matt Fryatt is the worst player to don the blue shirt. I can’t understand how a Leicester City fan that has suffered the same as all of us in recent years can be so negative towards a manager and his players! After what Pearson has done and where he has put us in the time he’s been with us I trust him 100% and you should also! Who are you to judge in such a negative way?? Yes we were very poor first half but we could also have gone in 4-1 up if Fryatt & N’Guesson bagged their chances, Howards header that was cleared off the line had gone in and don’t forget their Keeper also made some great saves (Gallagher shot). Second half we controlled the game more and didn’t quite get the rub of the green on some occasions but never really looked like conceding and at the end of the day we’ve got another point on the board towards the Playoff push and we (most importantly) didn’t lose the game. A Leicester City team 3 yrs ago would have lost last night! Matty Fryatt without confidence is a very frustrating player to watch but most of that frustration comes from knowing that we know and have seen that he CAN and SHOULD score some of the chance he gets. However, Matty with confidence is a different animal altogether and I think we have a BIG part to play in this. He’s scored over 50 goals for us now....50 for god’s sake!! When was the last time a City striker did that?? On his day with confidence he can be awesome!! He links up play well, chases defenders tirelessly, makes clever runs and bags the goals for fun. (The guy scored a hat-trick in two consecutive games last season and was one of the highest scorers in the country don’t forget!!) People forget that he is ONLY 23 also!! The boy is something special and most “fans” would love to have a player like him!! It really saddens and angers me at some of your attitudes towards Matty!! Constantly doubting his ability and whether he can score goals at this level. Isn’t he already proving that he can make the step up (5 goals in 7 games)??? How many other strikers in the league have this record?? Instead of moaning about him why not get behind the lad and give him the confidence and support so next time he gets that chance he’s confident enough to pop it home and hopefully fulfil the fantastic potential he is showing. Our team/squad isn’t the finished article yet. We’ve got a very good mix of some excellent young prospects, some very good experienced heads and also certain players (Tunchev, Wellens, Fryatt) who would walk into most Championship teams. This team WILL get better and better with time. Who knows where we could finish this season?? With the run we are on we should be going into EVERY game with no fear rather than doubting the team. Instead of being negative towards the lads, why not look for positives?? Let’s not forget how far we have come over the last 12 months and get behind our beloved team like “FANS” should do!!
Dr The Singh Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Unfortunately I watched the match without a tipple in me, I was stark sober, and boy o boy how I wished I wasn't............feckin had to work late and missed out on soem drinkypoos with the usual suspects!! Anyway, it wasn't a good performance by any means last night, first half Peterborough bossed the midfield and we never put two passes together. Brown had a off day but so did most of the players. We never really played with any width and Galagher on the wing doesn't work for me. The penalty seemed abit harsh, but only until they scored did we create anything really decent. Fryatt is a 1 in 5 striker, so he's not going to be prolific, but the whole attack play is centralised through him, so he will get most of the chances and he does work very hard as he is often very isolated!! I was surprised by Pearsons second half formation choice, we often played 5 in midfield, and we have to give Peterborough credit for this. Fryatt was again isolated and was never really supported. It just became a midfield battle, King looked better last night but didn't do anything spectacular, and without a left sided midfielder on the pitch, there was very little width or crossing going on!! It was a point won for me, and if peterborough had got all 3, no one could say they didn't deserve it. There's alot for Pearson to think about, unlike L1, sides aren't gonna come to the walkers and defend and gives us time and space!!

marbelladave Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Christ. Some people really don't get it! First of all, it is not last season, nor is it 2 seasons ago, that is history, in fact 2 of the worst years in our history and making comparisons with that awful period makes absolutely no sense. We are a different club with a (relatively) new owner, a very decent manager just starting his second term and we are definitely on the up. Secondly, we are in the Championship and we are here to compete. NP has completely turned around the playing side of the club and his (and his assistants) superb off field skills have assembled a good squad (at minimum cost) and developed a strong team spirit. I know that it will be difficult competing with the top (richest) teams in this division but we should be taking all the points from teams like Ipswich and Peterborough. And thirdly, it is not the results I have a problem with, it is not competing that gets to me. The players try hard enough (in the main) but our play is disjointed and really lacks much in the way of a goal threat. We hear from NP that we have a great squad, so I do not think it unreasonable that he uses it to rectify some of the issues that have been evident all season. I know he is the manager and we are just fans but it is hard to keep quiet when the same issues arise match after match and little seems to change. We have, in spells, played excellent football this season which makes me believe that we can do better than we have so far if we show a little more invention and flexibility
lcfcadam Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 If, like Nigel Pearson, I was paid thousands of pounds a week to manage Leicester City I would try to do two things without fail. Sorry to blaspheme but this is the sort of post that seriously puts me off coming on here - Foxestalk, an instant cure for contentment and happiness. I take it you find pleasure / a feeling of superiority from being negative when most others are being positive? The fact is we didn't play great but still picked up a point, and will continue to pick up many points throughout the season. I'm sorry but I just can't stand those who revel in depression and misery; instead of being so shockingly and pointlessly pragmatic about everything why not try just being a normal 'fan' for once - enjoy a goal / a win, feel disappointed when you lose? Avid reader of the boards but have never posted until now after not believing what I’ve been reading!! Somehow I don’t think I’m going to make many friends after what I’m about to say but I’ve just got to get a few things off my chest... Quite agree with you mate - for us meagre sub-football-messiahs A WIN IS A WIN and if we are consistently picking up points that's all that matters to me.

leicesterfox86 Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Don't know if it's been said, but 2 years ago we'd have lost a game like that.Yes, we didn't play that well in truth, but we did get something from the game and had the chances to get more. Boro could have easily been 3 up in 10 minutes though. Some would say we're lucky to get a point, and I'll take it. Yep, its still a point isn't it? We can't be too down about it. Four points from two home games isn't the worst return. Liek you say, we could have easily lost the game last night so the point is a bonus. We know we can play much better, but that will come. I'm in a positive frame of mind this season and I really think we can push for a play-off spot. We are 7th in the league, with the same amount of points as the team in 4th. Yes a win would have been good last night, but put it in perspective and we have to be very happy about where we are.
Alf Bentley Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 One concern is how we seem to need a kick up the arse every game, whether it a half time team talk or opposition goal. We've not really taken the game to teams from the off in the league this season. This.
billyfox1 Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Berner and Tunchev - class. Everyone else - must try harder
smudgerfox Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 1 Peterborough are a decent side - they played us off the park away last season and missed a sitter in the early stages at ours which had they taken, would have made for a very different kind of match Talking as though we should beat them by right and because they're near the bottom (after six games ffs) is utter drivel 2 NFP's skill is in getting the best out of players with limitations which are the only kind of players we are going to be able to sign. So whereas previous managers were hardly able to get a goal at all out of Matty Fryatt (Allen, Holloway, Megson etc) NFP has got him to topping the League One scoring charts and near the top in the Championship scorers, this season. But nothing about MF has changed. He's still a wasteful striker - he probably always will be. He takes a lot of chances to score a goal. 3 Brown is a tough, reliable squad player. He's done a great job standing in for Tunchev and he can be relied on to do same in case of injuries, suspensions, later in the season. Everything anyone ever says about him is that he is a true professional - he doesn't hide on the pitch, he tries to help younger players, he's a good influence in the dressing room (like Powell). The hero-worship of his blunt skills early in the season were ridiculous, the slagging of him now is equally so. What you need in a squad player is someone who doesn't moan about being on the bench, who keeps themselves fit and stands ready to be thrown into any situation during the course of a season or in any individual match. That is Wayne Brown.

Seconded, thirded and fourthed!
marbelladave Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Avid reader of the boards but have never posted until now after not believing what I’ve been reading!! Somehow I don’t think I’m going to make many friends after what I’m about to say but I’ve just got to get a few things off my chest.I’m actually in a state of shock of how negative some of you are.....THRACIAN you need to be put in a straight jacket!! A few thoughts; Thrac's post was a decent appraisal of last nights performance in particular and this seasons play in general. That we are a better outfit now than we were in the last 4/5 (miserable) years is to completely miss the point. Our lack of attacking ambition is a key point, as is our dogged perseverance with 4-4-2. Also we seem to give the opposition far too much respect, to the extent that we let them into games we are already dominating, as at Ipswich and Newcastle. Last night was a classic example. Our set up and shape played into Posh's hands. We sat off their forwards (were we afraid of their pace?) giving them time to turn and run at our defence. This discomforted even the normally excellent Berner and gave Brown, and to a lesser degree Hobbs, apoplexy. We were outnumbered in midfield as usual but last night's performance in the first 30 minutes was a new low, our attack was lopsided and Howard and Fryatt were completely isolated.......... I could go on but you get my drift. Second half was better, but the substitutions made us very narrow. No real problem with that, the fullbacks can supply the width or you can play through the middle with a a bit of pace, but sadly we did neither. However we did create a few opportunities but we were either crowded out or forced to take on half chances as we seemed unable to create anything better. Matty Fryatt is a good striker but he is not Wayne Rooney! He is rarely going to make a goal out of nothing but if you can give him the ball in a bit of space he will score his share. Last night we got the ball to him but there was no space as we did not stretch the defense in any direction, the result was a handful of half chances that he could not quite get past a good keeper on the night. The one really good chance that he had he missed, looked overanxious to me, rather as if being our top (only) goal scorer is weighing him down. Finally it is the team, not the fans that need to go into every game without fear. We can beat any team in this division, (we wont of course) but we should at least be prepared to try!
marbelladave Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Agreed Marbelladave!! The last few matches are showing that things in areas do need to improve!!PS -Please can you take me to Marbella with you!! Maybe we can arrange an exchange. I love the Punjab, particularly Amritsar and the mountains to the north. Once took the (narrow gauge) railway from Chandigarth up to Simla, Magic. Sadly I am back in the UK at the moment, living in Harrow on the Hill.... Still at least it means I can get to a few more games than usual, Watford on saturday.
breadandcheese Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Cleverly is going to score against us. I can feel it. If we had a choice between loaning Cleverly for another year or signing N'Guessan, we made the wrong decision.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 If we had a choice between loaning Cleverly for another year or signing N'Guessan, we made the wrong decision. The problem is though you know he is going to start again on Saturday no matter what while Gradel will probably not even make the squad. I find it puzzling that bar for a half against Swansea and Macclesfield away he has been absolute cack yet is still in the team. How many chances has he created so far...... the sum total of feck all. Our right hand side with a one paced RB behind him is a major cause for concern this season. As much as I appreciate what NP has done for us since he took over he sometimes fails (or refuses) to see what is happening right in front of him.
dogadug Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Cleverly looks like Watford's only decent player, he's scored virtually all there goals, and the only reason they're 6th is because they've played easier teams like Plymouth, Barnsley and Notts Forest
Lillehamring Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I think I read in the Foxestalkers you've met thread that you were in SK1/SK2? Well that's why there was no atmosphere.15 minute ring of fire chant was the highlight of L1 last night, cracking atmosphere. My experience of the kop was that you've got about 7 lads at the top of SK1 trying to make some noise, and that's it. dear god, if that's what qualifies as atmosphere these days! it was sung at the last game i went to and i took me a minute to even realise what it was, seeing as no one knows the actual tune to it... shame.
carterfox90 Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 1-1 was a fair result last night we were very slow to come out the blocks & woke up a bit once they had scored but it was a poor home display & not many chances created one player does frustrate me N'Guessan seems to start off well for 10 minutes then just fades out of the game as on saturday their left back gets booked against him so what does he do - nowt he should of kept attacking him to make him make mistakes or even another bad foul to get sent off & not immpressed with his crossing adams or even gradel deserve their chance adams delvers quality crosses why NP does'nt rate him is cause for concern he may look a bit lightweight but does give his all & gradels trickery sometimes does come off on a plus it was great to see tunchev back makes defending look easy just hope the premiership piranhas keep away 2 points dropped for me we need to play better against teams like that
