lifted*fox Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 People can express disappointment mate, but some people are completely OTT. No wonder they don't enjoy a single thing about the match; they sit there thinking about the 2000 word negativity-thon they can spunk out when they get back to their computer at home.

TrickyTrev Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 Now you tell me what you enjoyed about that particular match last night.Please. Alexsander Tunchev.
CKB Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 I don't think anyone has said Nigel Pearson sucks. I think he has an excellent temperament, a good eye for a player and the sort of personality that instantly commands respect. I just think he got it wrong tonight in a way that was predictable. Are people not allowed to express disappointment about what was an extremely poor performance? Of course they are but this is just a typical OTT reaction as per usual! we had a bad game, we drew..what would have happened a couple of years ago? we would have lost! Disappointing game yes but no reason to go OTT yet! I'll be worrying and saying my thoughts if in 4 games time we have lost every game! but at the moment i'm enjoying the start, i couldn't care less about the way we play or how many goals we score, it's about getting results and if we play poor and still draw then i'm taking that! along with the previous good results we have had a excellent start to the season! We are gonna hit a bad patch no doubt and NP will be put into the spotlight even more then and he will really be judged to see if he fully has it and i truely believe he does
Koke Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 I think I'll give credit to Nigel for changing the system and bringing on King in the second half. Previous managers would have left it as it is or change like-for-like, but Nigel saw we were utter shambles in the first half and made the right tactical changes - and we came out a different outfit in the second half. We're not gonna stroll this division, so let's have a wee bit of perspective. And for the record, we should give credit to Posh who I thought played quite well tonight. First half belonged to Posh.
Ozwin Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 It seems like only people on here get worked up about results. The people I sit with will have a moan during the game like most, but afterwards it's onwards and upwards to the next game. You can't let it ruin your week like it seems to for people on here.
C-man Posted 15 September 2009 Posted 15 September 2009 Quite a few positives to take out of the game as well as the obvious negatives of the first half in particular. No point dwelling on the negatives so I'm just going to look at the positives. Firstly, and maybe most importantly in the context of the season - the return of the Tunch. Brown had done well up until Saturday, but mistakes in the last two games could have cost us 4 points, rather than just the two, so to have our best player return to take up the mantle is a huge bonus for us. He's such a classy player in every way. Never let either of their strikers have any room, won everything in the air, passed calmly and picked out a Royal Blue shirt with almost every header won. Awesome comeback. On the way home, I asked my Dad whether he'd seen a classier centre-half play for City, and he could only think of a debatable one. Graham Cross was the one that sprung to mind but he was more of a sweeper, I'm led to believe. Lets just hope he's fit enough to start on Saturday. Secondly, well done to Matty for slotting that penalty. I feared the worse after that shocker in the 1st half but he kept his nerve and won us a point. Before the season began I had my doubts over the left-back spot and my fears weren't exactly eradicated when Mattock left, but Bruno Berner has been amazing so far. He was quality on Saturday and tonight he was even better. He read the game superbly, passed it well, got forward when he could and even put in a couple of dangerous crosses. He timed his tackles and interceptions to perfection and managed really well against a dangerous player in Whelpdale. Gewon Bruno! Finally, fair play to NP who had the bottle to change things at half-time. Previous managers would never have dared make two changes before the 75th minute, but Pearson changes things before he has to. Two good changes tonight which brought about an alteration in system which stifled their attacking play almost completely, and although it never really happened for us up top, 4-3-3 looks like it could work when were up against the wall. Oh, and the atmosphere wasn't too bad at times, and L1 looked amazing in the 2nd half.

Previous managers would have left it as it is or change like-for-like, but Nigel saw we were utter shambles in the first half and made the right tactical changes - and we came out a different outfit in the second half. This is true and Nigel should be given credit for this. However, he had to make that same change against Blackpool and it drastically needed to be done at Newcastle. I know Nige is a God and all that, but I think criticizing him for not sorting this out from the start isn't exactly ridiculous. I mean, I still love the guy.
C-man Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I've just read this thread. Seriously could people get some perspective please or am I going to have to read the same old shit after every game we don't win by two or more?
TrickyTrev Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I've just read this thread. Seriously could people get some perspective please or am I going to have to read the same old shit after every game we don't win by two or more? It was hardly a run of the mill 1-1 draw. We were as bad as we possibly could be in the first half.
Ultra Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Pearson bringing on a defensive midfielder (King) for an attacker (N'Guessan) seemed curious, given that we were trailing at the time. It was clear that King, Oakley and Wellens had no idea about where or how they should be playing in a 4-3-3. Peterborough have been struggling this season and look like they'll continue to do so. So to drop two points against them at home is disappointing, especially as this cost us the chance of reaching fourth place. But they competed well and won virtually every second ball all night. Fergie junior has clearly inherited his father's tactical skills and knew how to target some of our weak links (particularly Brown and Oakley). A more confident strikeforce would have put two or three times away before the penalty. In the end we had to rely on a spot-kick of our own to save the unbeaten home run, despite creating and squandering a host of chances in open play. The lack of firepower in the side (just SEVEN goals in as many league games) is continuing to be a problem. Ironically, however, the return of the talismanic Tunchev may help to solve that. It could help the team revert to a passing game and ditch the sterile hoofball which Howard's presence in the team tends to encourage. Pearson needs to freshen the side up for Saturday. A return to specialist wingers (Gradel and Adams?) might help.
Ozwin Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 L1 kept the same chant going for ages at one point.
Tommeh Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Now you tell me what you enjoyed about that particular match last night.Please. The chance to have a decent night out with the lads after a stressful day A what I thought was a very good atmosphere for our home games standards. The return to form of Tunchev. Weale's continued good kicking and excellent commanding of his box at set pieces. Absolutely everything about Bruno Berner. Yet again. Waghorns boots. Fryatt continuing his impressive goalscoring form at a level few said he'd survive at. Huge improvment from Hobbs on the Blackpool game. the comical rants from a moron nearby. Wellens beautiful ball to Waghorn in the dying minutes. Their player falling over the referee. My mate getting a parking ticket in Morrisons. Seriously some people need to chill tha fucck out...We won't go up and from I've seen so far stay wey clear of the bottom 6. Roll on Saturday.
Koke Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Pearson bringing on a defensive midfielder (King) for an attacker (N'Guessan) seemed curious, given that we were trailing at the time. Since when has King been a defensive midfielder?
Ultra Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 L1 kept the same chant going for ages at one point. They did indeed - and could actually be heard by the Kop for once..
C-man Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 It was hardly a run of the mill 1-1 draw. We were as bad as we possibly could be in the first half. And yet we still got a point. If we win on Saturday everything will be cushty.
Raj Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Oh, and the atmosphere wasn't too bad at times, and L1 looked amazing in the 2nd half. L1er's did well!!! It was hardly a run of the mill 1-1 draw. We were as bad as we possibly could be in the first half. Were you not around during the last few seasons. THAT was as bad as things could possible be.
Ozwin Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 They did indeed - and could actually be heard by the Kop for once.. Haha we could hear them indeed. Some chants L1 created actually made their way around to us which was just bloody strange. That never happens. Must've been the night air or something.
Bryn Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 I think Tunchev's return will be massive, it always sounded like he really imposed his class on games early last season. It's frustrating not going to games... I think a fair assessment is that we're doing more right than wrong but a couple of changes are needed, but there's no way to tell what exactly without going.
TrickyTrev Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Pearson bringing on a defensive midfielder (King) for an attacker (N'Guessan) seemed curious, given that we were trailing at the time.It was clear that King, Oakley and Wellens had no idea about where or how they should be playing in a 4-3-3. We were playing something quite close to a diamond in the second half just as we did in the second half against Blackpool. Not really a 433. Putting on a defensive midfielder was necessary to stop us looking like conceding every time we lost the ball. It should also not necessarily be considered a purely defensive option if it allows your other midfielders more license to attack.
Ozwin Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 Just saw their penalty decision again. What a load of rubbish, Brown barely touched him and McLean went down like a sack of spuds. Not happy about that at all. Our penalty was definately one though, which is strange because everyone was like 'wtf' when it happened.
TrickyTrev Posted 16 September 2009 Posted 16 September 2009 And yet we still got a point. If we win on Saturday everything will be cushty. Everything is cushty as it is, we're 7th, its been a good start. We were just appalling tonight and had a few limitations revealed to us. I'd be fooking delighted if we finished anywhere near 7th by the end of the season.

Except how many times did Wellens or Oakley enter the posh penalty area in the second half? Indeed, I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've seen them venture into an opposing box all season.

Fair to say we're a formation that relies on pushing the wingers up with Fryatt to reach Howard's flick ons, but the wingers aren't playing well at the moment?

He was class tonight too, really is great to have him getting back to full fitness. Little bit disappointed not to have taken all 3 points, particularly as I didn't think Posh were up to much in the second half at all,, but we're not gonna win em all and there were some positives to take from the game. I was impressed with Gallagher's commitment, especially seeing as he was out of his preferred position again. Tunch obviously a welcome return. Berner and Wellens were awesome tonight, and the usual 100% effort from Big Steve. Pity we fluffed a few really good chances but it's not a loss, and I'm still happy overall with the start we've made. Now let's beat Watford
