Tommy G Posted 21 September 2009 Posted 21 September 2009 Recently because of part of the A6 being closed I am having to divert through South Wigston to get to Oadby to work. On the route there are a number of traffic lights to allow pedstrians to cross. At these lights there are people in flourecent jackets pushing the button for people. I have never really noticed this before, they have obviously come back because of schools starting again. They all seem to be very old. Are these people paid for doing this?? I hope they are voulenteers. If I was a parent then I probably wouldn't let my child walk to school by themselves till they were perhaps 8 or 9. By then I would of hoped to have taught them basic life skills such as pushing a button at traffic lights and waiting for the green man. If these people are voulenteers then this rant is a waste of time. If they are actually getting paid then it's a joke, and who is paying them, LCC? *Excuse any spelling mistakes the spelling police

Say there is 400 400 x2.5 hrs a day each = 1000 hours x £6.30 is £6,300 a day. Multiply that by 200 school days is about £1.2m, still not a waste of money? Pisses me off

The discipline of taking the same route each day and being taught road safety from a very early age is a great way of teaching those kids.
