You're Welcome to Stay, Yann!

Yann Kermorgant believes he is tailor-made for English football.

The French striker said he is certain he can adapt to life in England and aims to prove it over the next three months to earn an extended contract.

The 27-year-old from Brittany joined City from Stade Reims in August on a short-term contract until January but is determined to stay in England for a lot longer.

Kermorgant made his full debut for City at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night after replacing Steve Howard and, although he admits he was not happy with his own performance, he has promised the Blue Army there is much more to come from him.

"I hope to stay," he said in his first interview since joining the club. "It was difficult for me to sign for a long time because I was injured, but now I am fit. In a few weeks I will talk to the manager and, if he wants to keep me, perhaps I will stay here for a longer time.

"I like English football and it was the reason I came here.

"In France I could have been playing in the first team but I decided to go to England to discover another culture and to learn the language.

"It is a new life here and a big challenge for me, and I like that. I think English football suits my style.

"I spent a long time in France and all my managers and other players said that I am perfect for English football. I think it is very good football and physical. It is different in England because all the time it is 100 per cent. There is no time for recovery. In France the game is slower."

Kermorgant admits he was surprised when he was told he was starting against Middlesbrough on Tuesday. He accepts he was not at his best but he believes he can show manager Nigel Pearson and the Blue Army what he can do if he gets a run of games.

Now he is hoping he will retain his place in the side for tomorrow's trip to Coventry, which will see 5,000 City fans head down the M69.

"It was a bit of a surprise for me to start the game at Middlesbrough," he said. "It was my first game for four-and-a-half months.

"I had an abductor injury but it is fine now, so it is just a problem of getting my fitness. I just need to play a series of games and there is definitely much more to come from me."

Will probably get a deal till the end of the season I reckon and if he has proved himself enough will be offered longer then.

Looks a good solid player and will keep the current strikers on their toes seeing as Pearson wasn't afraid to drop Howard for him. Seems to enjoy playing here as well so hope he signs permanently.

Kermo has quaity no doubt. He's a player who offers more than Howard, bit more cunning - he looked to have more flamboyance. I'd start him vs Coventry. Howard needs to earn his place, and based on the last games Kermo did more.

There you go again, making assumptions from You Tube clips as fact. How many times have you seen him again?

based upon the 10 minutes he had against Preston or the 60 odd he had against Boro where he was pretty much cancelled out?

Much as I'd like to read your evidence for the above, I've yet to see it.

I'd say Kermo can do pretty much what Howard does. Howard is obviously a lot bigger, and stronger - but Kermo is pretty decent in the air, and I'd say he's a smarter player. That's all, I think he's a better player.

At the press conference did he speak English?
