Daggers Posted 20 November 2009 Posted 20 November 2009 There will never be a replay with France and Ireland, because of one simple man. PLATINI Or, the entire concept of replaying the fixture is shit?
BoneDog Posted 20 November 2009 Posted 20 November 2009 Whats a crucial moment though? Offsides? Penalties? Sendings Off? Goal line Incidents? Handballs? I can see the game being stopped every 2 minutes it will ruin football.Plus imagine scoring but instead losing yourself in the moment, everyone stopping and waiting for the ref to check the video? Rubbish. I agree it could get out of hand. It could all be done by the fourth official though with no need to stop play if done properly. And with technology nowadays surely he could see the replay a couple of times in 30 seconds. And if he saw something wrong he could inform the ref on their mic thing. I don't think it would stop players celebrating if they knew it was a legitimate goal. If they knew they had handballed or something then they would probably not celebrate much cos they know it will be spotted and disallowed.

C-man Posted 21 November 2009 Posted 21 November 2009 If Ireland got a replay, I'd never watch a professional football match again. It'd be the ultimate embarrasment to the sport.
stez Posted 21 November 2009 Posted 21 November 2009 works fine for rugby so why not football because football flows more than rugby, which is a stop-start game, when a ball has been cleared off the goal line, cleared to the midfield, out to a winger crossed in and a goals scored up the other end, at what point to you stop that counter attack to check the video footage? and how do you restart a counter attack fairly?

I don't think there'd be any need to stop play to check the footage. If the ref (or linesman) had seen nothing wrong he would just play on as usual while the 4th official or some new video official checked the goal-line thingy. Then if they saw something they could tell the ref on his mic. I don't think it would take more than 30 seconds for official to check I think it could be done without affecting the game much. The ref would still have full control over games, just get a bit of quick help or confirmation on major events in the match.

DJ Barry Hammond Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 Cyber Ref's - 100% correct, 100% of the time - that's whats needed not stupid little camera's! Now ok, replay may have been far fetched, but what I'm disapointed in is no-one be it FIFA or UEFA have summoned the referee or Mr Henry on some sort of charge of bringing the game into disripute yet - true they're now having a meeting to discuss, but surely a charge should have been brought to one of these parties by now (or have i missed something?) And a final thought if you will... if it was Robbie Keane, Harlem Globetrotting it into France's net to put Ireland through to the World Cup, would there have been a replay?
Wycombe Fox Posted 23 November 2009 Posted 23 November 2009 ah, but FIFA don't have enough working brian cells to be able to think about this properly. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

They claim that football is for everyone but really its for nations rich enough or good enough to keep FIFA in caviar and champagne at their board meetings. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy! genuine typo that was.

This scenario would never have happened as the referees would've 'seen' this one. And if they didn't actually see the handball, some French player would be throwing himself to the deck, causing the ref to blow for an infringement somewhere. Remember the peno that the Netherlands got in the dying minutes against the Czechs at Euro 2000 (officialled by the 'brilliant' Collina)?
lildave3 Posted 24 November 2009 Posted 24 November 2009 People saying there'd be a replay if the tables were turned . Absolute nonsense.
