Uncle Albert Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 Thought I would start a little thread for the Play-Off matches and the England game on Saturday. Really, really hope Republic of Ireland can go through against the French, will be a big ask but if Scotland can beat them home and away then you would think Ireland could match that. Robbie Keane is going to need a massssssssssive game and so is Shay Given. Ronaldo is out for Portugal aswell. <_<
StanSP Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 Given might be key for ROI. And they jus thave to take advantage of France's defensive problems. If they don't they'll just get punished at the other end. Love it if Portugal got knocked out

Ashley Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 I hope Ireland get through and we draw them in our group
Fosse Boy Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 The seeding of the draw was nothing short of a disgraceful marketing ploy by FIFA to try and fix the draw so that all of the "bigger", more commercially viable nations get through. Want Ireland to win and would love it if Portugal lost so that cheating bastard Ronaldo doesn't make it to South Africa.
TrickyTrev Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 I want to support Ireland but they are such an unforgivably dull football team. There are only two talented midfielders are Steven Ireland and Andy Reid, the first doesn't make himself available and the second isn't considered for selection.

Tevez Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 Hopefully the Paddys win and we pull them in the group.
leicesterfox86 Posted 11 November 2009 Posted 11 November 2009 I'm really looking forward to the games this weekend actually. This football blogger looks at the Ireland v France game and actually thinks the Irish will actually qualify! I'm not too convinced on his reasoning, but it is definitely possible. France aren't the force they were. Come on Ireland!

BoneDog Posted 12 November 2009 Posted 12 November 2009 Do away goals count in these play-offs? I will love it if Ireland and Bosnia can qualify. I think Ireland have got a massive chance and from the little snippets of Bosnia I've seen they also look quite capable of doing the job.
MC Prussian Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 New Zealand are through after a 1-0 playoff win against Bahrain with Plymouth Argyle's Rory Fallon being the lone scorer during the re-match in Auckland. They'll now compete at the World Championships for only the second time in 28 years. This to an extent thanks to Australia no longer playing in the Oceania zone. Still, quite an accomplishment and I'm looking forward to seeing them play in South Africa next year. C'mon you Kiwis!!
Edmund Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 New Zealand are through with a 1-0 playoff win against Bahrain and competing at the World Championships for the second time in 27 years.C'mon you Kiwis!! Touch wood there in our group as that would mean a guaranteed 3 points. A very poor team from what I saw at the confederations cup.
Shrenchel Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 New Zealand are absolutely shit. It makes a bit of a mockery of the competition that a team that gash can qualify. I watched the first match and the quality of football was shocking. It was like two drunks trying their hardest to knock bits into each other but in the end both just piss themselves and go to sleep in a bus stop.

If we draw NZ this is the sort of game where even Crouch would look like a world class striker by probably bagging half a dozen.
BlueSi13 Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 I agree its a bit of a farce a team like NZ can get to the finals over say a Sweden or Czech Republic for example but they beat who was put in front of them so on that basis, they deserve it, the problems is FIFA's not NZ. I believe the whole of the Oceania confederation should follow Australia's lead and join the AFC, it could only improve the quality of teams like NZ, Fiji, New Caledonia etc if they were to do so and avoid the appalling one sided affair that Oceania is at the moment.
Jonezy Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 If we draw NZ this is the sort of game where even Crouch would look like a world class striker by probably bagging half a dozen. Well, he looked a right twat pulling the rasta hair of his marker, when England struggled against Trinidad and Tobacco... Don't underestimate anyone at a WC. Edit: Forgot to mention, I hope all the unseeded teams spoils FIFAs last minute seeding system to help out the bigger nations.
Finnegan Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 What a goal! Wales 1 - 0 Scotland in the day's most imporant match.
AjcW Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 What a goal! Wales 1 - 0 Scotland in the day's most imporant match. Decent game so far. Was expecting a rather boring game. Always enjoy watching wales, just because I think given a couple more years and a really decent coach they could easily qualify for a tournament, some great youngsters.
Finnegan Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 Yeah but where's the decent coach coming from?
AjcW Posted 14 November 2009 Posted 14 November 2009 Yeah but where's the decent coach coming from? yes thats the problem. Anyway two nill... another good goal.
