Jimmy Posted 15 November 2009 Posted 15 November 2009 He is our best striker, but every player has his price.Too often, we seem to turn down bids for young players, only to end up selling them for less a year or two later (Stearman, Mattock). I don't want to see Matty go, but if we got a bid of £3mill+, we'd have to seriously consider it. Is there anything actually behind this story or is it just paper talk? even if it is just paper talk come January we will get offers for him
MPH Posted 15 November 2009 Posted 15 November 2009 Need him for what? to see if there is any genuine intrest.. to see who from to see how much money was actually being mentioned if indeed there was.. To see what Fryatt really thought.. goodness... did i really need to answer?
Fox You Forest Posted 15 November 2009 Posted 15 November 2009 to see if there is any genuine intrest..to see who from to see how much money was actually being mentioned if indeed there was.. To see what Fryatt really thought.. goodness... did i really need to answer? http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Leiceste...il/article.html About as reliable as the first link in this thread, but seeing as you're reading so much into that, it should quench your thirst for info. I like it when January comes round because shit like this is kept in a specific sub-forum.
fleckneymike Posted 15 November 2009 Posted 15 November 2009 The simple truth is if Fryatt converted every one on one he wouldn't be playing for us. He's 23, and now has a ratio of 1 in 3 for us. For those who will respond that the majority of those goals came at a lower level, he also managed 1 in 3 in his debut season at Championship level and has 1 in 1.5 this. The two barren seasons were truely woeful and saw just 1 in 6 but on average he scores once every three games. These superior strikers which we will replace Fryatt with are I assume Simon Cox (22 years old) who average 1 in 2 at league one (same ratio as Fryatt) and 1 in 6 at championship level (worse ratio). Jermaine Beckford (25 and never going to leave Leeds this season) who averages 1 in 1.4 at league one but 0 in 10 at championship. Ricky Lambert (27) who averages 1 in 3 at league one level. If there were better cheaper Fryatt replacements I tend to think other clubs might have bought them instead of this apparently shite striker that we have, a striker who has roughly scored more than the rest of the team combined.

jerakin Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 If he knocked in all hisw chances he would get 150 goals a season. Get real people, he is a quality striker that we need to keep hold of. I remember Leicester fans getting on Lineker's back for the same reason. Also a so called piece of crap striker by the name of Mark Bright.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 Hope we can keep him, but if W.B.A. do want him, then I can see the little guy going.
Fox92 Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 Bleedin' hell, how many strikers does di Matteo want? Hasn't he got Reid, Moore, Cox and Bednar all ready, with a few more as well I bet. Anyway, he won't go there. Whats the point?
Captain... Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 I am a big fan of Fryatt, but in this climate 3million is a lot of money. In his first season for us he looked a fantastic signing young, lively, great touch, pace and an eye for goal and formed a great partnership with Hume. He started to play like that again last year, obviously against lower opposition, but you can score against the team you are playing. My problem is the 2 seasons in between, I don't know what happened but he was gash admittedly so was the rest of the team, but good players were still able to perform, such as Hume. it seems like it was a confidence thing, he still showed signs of his ability, but not the mental stregth to deal with the disappointing performances by himself and his team mates. A lot has changed since then, we have stability and team spirit and Matty has had a season to build up his confidence and gain a lot of experience in League 1. He has had a great start to the season but it was a worrying 6/7 game run without a goal including a missing a penalty. We can all see that Fryatt has the potential to be a great striker at this level and even a good prem striker, but we all remember he has the potential to be absolutely rubbish. Hopefully all that is behind him and continues scoring goal after goal for us, but I understand why people can see the dollar signs and speculate about replacing him, but he is the best goal scorer we have and that we have had for a long time.
McFoxy Posted 16 November 2009 Posted 16 November 2009 I cannot believe people are talking about those two seasons!!! The whole team was shocking, the club was going down the shitter, we had sooo many managers I can't remember (and most of them played him out of position). Why should Fryatt be performing any better than any other player in the team. Morale was at an all time low! Kudos to the kid for picking it back up and getting on with it when he had the oppourtunity

Really? Given how much Cox went for in the summer?

Kudos to the kid for picking it back up and getting on with it when he had the oppourtunity Like I said I am a big fan of Fryatt, and yes they were shocking seasons all round, but they weren't that much worse than Fryatt's first season when he looked a quality player. The other few players of quality we had still managed to show their quality, Hume being a perfect example. The fact is Fryatt didn't play well for 2 seasons for whatever reason, and that will always be at the back of my mind while I sing his praises at the moment, and his 7 game barren run this season was a reminder that he still needs to become more consistent and deadlier in front of goal. Everyone has their price and for 3m+ I think it would be very difficult to turn down, but then I'm not NP I don't know Matty, I don't if he will develop in to the 30+ prem goal scorer or not, and I don't know how long he has left on his contract or whether or not he would want to leave.

He won't ever be that, and if he was the 3 million you suggest would seem peanuts would it not? The point is 3 million wouldn't replace him (unless NP did another piece of transfer magic), so there is no point of selling. As for barren spells, all strikers have them ....even 30+ prem strikers. See where we are at the end of the season, and if we're up then there is nothing to worry about. If we fail, then perhaps he will want to go but I'm sure he'll have added to his tally substantially by then and if he wants a move then 3 mill would not be such a good price. Selling in January is pure folly

Selling in January is pure folly You don't know that, he is still only 22 he could potentially do a "Kevin Phillips" or "Darren Bent" in the prem, if he stays with us (and I hope he does) he is on target to finish this season on around 30 goals. (I am as optimistic as I am pessimistic when it comes to football)
Chrysalis Posted 17 November 2009 Posted 17 November 2009 I used to say bad things about fryatt but he has proven me wrong. He may miss chances but he also scores chances, hell even theirry henry missed 2 or 3 chances every game before scoring for arsenal. 5million is the bear minimum I think MM should even start considering selling at. Reasons are. (1) January prices are inflated since the selling club will have a harder time of replacing. (2) Other strikers who are as clynical in this division go for more than 3 million easy. (3) part of the fee goes to walsall. (4) I think we wouldnt be able to replace him properly in january, and thats even assuming MM would release all the cash to NP to spend, I think he wouldnt.
