Koke Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 McCarthy seems to have waved the white flag before even entering the battlefield. Not exactly sure how this is of any concern of the FA/Premier League. Having said that, from a fans perspective - 42 quid to watch Wolves' reserves a week before Christmas is taking the piss. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/de...chester-united1

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Hope they lose to Burnley and go down.

Tilley Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Don't see the problem myself. It is the Christmas period so players will need resting, the chance of them getting a result at Old Trafford was pretty low. If they beat Burnley at the weekend then it'll all be forgotten.
lou Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 On Talksport earlier they mentioned some fans have contacted trading standards and said they actually have a case We should speak to them about the Forest game!
The Doctor Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 they could have known they were pretty much certain to lose this game and so rested key players what with them having 3 games in just over a week
Edmund Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Also a good point raised on talksport was that the first team have lost 4-0 on a few occasions this season, whose to say the reserve team didn't actually gain a better result than the first team would have. I still stand by what I posted last night before the mach. To be fair it makes sense. Team spirits are high on the back of two wins and getting a result at United with Wolves is unlikely so all it will do is dampen the players confidence.Play a team who don't regularly start to take the brunt of it and return next week with the previous team who are still in high spirits having won their last two games. Also the players who start tonight will be playing for a first team spot which should be enough to spur them on.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Although I dont really agree with it I can see why it has been done and all the fuss being made about it is because it was agianst United. I remember when Pompey won at a very weak West Ham because West ham had a FA cup game coming up and despite moans nothing happened. Pompey also played a weak side for 4/5 games in a row before the FA cup final when Fulham stayed up and no one complained then. If Wolves had of got something there with this weak team would any one be moaning about the selection?
Fox92 Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 In anyone else's eye's, is that a form of cheating?
Edmund Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 We should speak to them about the Forest game!
Koke Posted 16 December 2009 Author Posted 16 December 2009 In anyone else's eye's, is that a form of cheating? Liverpool fielded a reserve team against Fulham a few seasons ago and Sheffield United got shafted and subsequently went down. I don't think it's cheating. Mick McCarthy is looking out for the interest of Wolves, and Wolves alone. I just feel a wee bit sorry for the fans who travelled up there on a cold Tuesday night to see their team wave the white flag and bend over before a ball as even been kicked - all for that a £42.
davieG Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 £42 is what we have to look forward to paying if we got promoted! Not me I wont be paying those prices!
Koke Posted 16 December 2009 Author Posted 16 December 2009 I went to Old Trafford last night and I feel totally shafted. Traffic jams all the way up there, traffic jams all the way back - I got back at 2am in the morning at a cost of about £150 to see the reserves in a complete sham. In addition to the cost and waste of my personal time, it goes against completely everything I believe in the way that Wolves should be run as a club. Even a convincing win against Burnley on Sunday will not change my mind.Wolves away support has been excellent this season and have been an important factor in helping get the team having a decent away record. McCarthy has stuck two fingers up to Wolves loyal away support. Some still support McCarthy, but he has angered a lot of fans and for what? To surrender any chance of getting a point against a lacklustre Man Utd team a full 5 days before our next fixture. I will not be renewing my season ticket if McCarthy remains in charge regardless of which division we are in. From a Wolves fan. I can't argue against any of that tbh.
Edmund Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 From a Wolves fan. I can't argue against any of that tbh. He has every right to be angry but it's a bit of an over reaction indirectly calling for the managers head.
BoneDog Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 The FA or whoever it is who are considering charging Wolves really are a massive bunch of hypocritical assholes. This has happened no end of times. December's a very busy month and the manager should have the right to do as he sees fit with his first team. I can understand why the fans would be a bit disappointed though.
Tommeh Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 George Elokobi was playing, if that's a weak side then fu ck me.
dandannieldanok Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Hope they lose to Burnley and go down. Same here, would be interesting to hear what thick Mick has to say if Burnley beat them. George Elokobi was playing, if that's a weak side then fu ck me.
General Smuts Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Not that bad a team surely. Hahnemann Elokobi Hill Zubar Mancienne Foley Friend Halford Surman Castillo Maierhofer
The Doctor Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Not that bad a team surely.Hahnemann Elokobi Hill Zubar Mancienne Foley Friend Halford Surman Castillo Maierhofer that's hardly a weakened side that is.
JimmyK Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 1. It's not that weak a team 2. How is it more 'outrageous' than Man Utd playing a weak team on the final game of last season which could potentially have made the difference between which team went down? I don't recall them being asked to explain it.
Daggers Posted 16 December 2009 Posted 16 December 2009 Not me I wont be paying those prices! I'm not paying these prices.
kidder_wolf Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 It wasnt a weak team, it had 8 regular first teams players, 1 £2m sub who started this season by helping knock out Villa in the Europa League, A player who cost £1.1m and started for the first team against Chelsea. It was only George Friend who was not normally involved in the first team. But look who has slated us in the press tonight for damaging ‘the international credibility of the Premier League’ and handing Manchester United an unfair advantage by sending out a team of reserves at Old Trafford? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...e.html?ITO=1490
ozleicester Posted 17 December 2009 Posted 17 December 2009 Weak! Not putting out your best side is simply admitting defeat and is not acceptable. Teams have won at Old Trafford this year and imagine the reaction within the team and club had they gone there and won! the feeling of confidence and surge in fan membership? This is the reputation beating the manager.. for gods sake, you are playing football, either team can win on the day. I would be p*ssed to be the eyeballs if i had supported my team for years... only to have the manager (effectively) walk up to me and say "Manure are better than us, so we will give them this game". Can you imagine the sh*t you would get from opposition fans. (what would you say to the durty leeds or covscum fans etc, if they did it against us). P*ssweak Mccarthy... McCarthy out!
