davieG Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 From the Donny OS All measures possible are being taken to ensure Monday's game against Leicester City will go ahead following the freezing conditions this week. Shane Chalmers, Keepmoat General Manager told the Free Press "We're trying everything we possibly can to ensure the game goes ahead on the 28th. We're monitoring the weather and how the pitch is reacting to the different measures were using". The gritting lorries are on standby for the 28th and rock salt has been ordered in to tackle the areas we have responsibility for, so there will be no issues there. Dave Morris, Rovers Chief Executive said "To ensure the game goes ahead we have invested in extra covers to make sure that the frost and snow does not get to the pitch. This should guarantee that the pitch is playable for Monday and along with the excellent ground staff and SMC the car parks and terracing should be fine. The Club sees no reason why the game should not go ahead as scheduled". The low temperature mark is expected to rise above freezing this weekend with sunny intervals anticipated, helping make sure the games goes ahead.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 That's how you do it Cardiff!!!!!!!!!!!
haraven Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 That's how you do it Cardiff!!!!!!!!!!! My thoughts exactly, Donny should send their list of things to do when we're midwinter and chances snow is coming to Cardiff. Groundkeeper Willy should move to Wales!
Guest Bilo Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 Hmmm, with no undersoil heating they'll have their work cut out. That said, Peterborough pulled it off on the same day as Cardiff was postponed. Let's hope they're made of similarly stern stuff in South Yorkshire.

Ford Super Sunday Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I'm not sure if this has been posted here before or not, but it's definitely worth a mention on HOW YOU PLAY FOOTBALL IN BAD WEATHER!
Scow Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 It's widely expected to be milder than recently, though I've just looked at the BBC website - a freezing night followed by daytime temperatures of 2°C.
Edmund Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 In fairness, the P'boro pitch looked a nightmare that day. How the game there went ahead I dunno. It was bad but there were worst in the leagues below. Not to mention some of the games that went ahead in Scotland. I swear a few years ago matches were only called off if there was heavy snow fall. Bloody health and safety.
Rich Fox Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 It will be gone by 28th trust me I do a lot of amateur weather forecasting. It will be raining buy milder by then.

Corky Posted 24 December 2009 Posted 24 December 2009 I hope it goes ahead, as I probably wouldn't be able to get to the re-arranged date.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 December 2009 Posted 25 December 2009 Thank god it will be on. I would be so pissed off it was called off!
CosbehFox Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 The temperatures look good between here and Sunday but then it's expected to approach minus five and a highest temp in the day being 1c. The Keepmoat is covered by shade mostly too!
