NP name being linked with the Bolton job

Why are we bigger than Bolton, last time I checked theyve been in the premiership for the last few seasons and we've been in League 1.

I cant stand them but I dont think we're bigger.

I'm surprised that he didn't go sooner - how any modern manager can be allowed to hold down a full-time position acting running HR in The Office (USA) is beyond me.

Interesting point. Depends what criteria you're basing it on. In terms of major honours won, they've undoubtedly got the making of us as they've won the Cup four times and have played in a higher division than us for the past few seasons. That said, they haven't won anything major for a good fifty years. Plus I'd have thought we've got a far larger fanbase than they have. So, as I say, depends how you're judging what a "big club" is.

N.P. would be crazy not to consider the Bolton job if offered it. They are an established Premiership side already, and we are their very poor relations.

Some people on thiis site wear rose tinted glasses all year round!

I think thats about spot on.imo i think hes is fairly happy at city but when he gives interviews he does give the impression that his hands are tied in the transfer market, whether Bolton could give him an improvement on that would remain to be seen if he was offerd the job,but they do seem to have a weathy owner but the same could be said about city.b

I for one would like to thank Megson for giving us the opportunity to nearly have Frank Burrows in charge.

:D

Good old Frank with his flat cap and tache combo

Relatively speaking moneywise I doubt there's a great deal to be gained in terms of achievement. Bolton may have more money but it's not enough to make an impact in the Premier League and by all accounts the Cups after all they never won anything even with the 'success' that Allardyce achieved, Pearson currently has enough money to achieve the play-offs, which would be considered a success and an achievement.

So the frustration would be just as great if not more at Bolton and success at Leicester will hold out the promise of a better job later than struggling to keep Bolton up.

Thing is he was in a lose, lose situation with me, and I would guess many other Leicester fans, We didn't want him anyway, I wanted shot of him when we appointed him, Then he threw it back in our faces by leaving after such a short time. No matter what he did unless it was an amazing job (Which just wasn't gonna happen anyway) he was never gonna be held in high esteem at LCFC.

I agree he was in a lose lose situation which just isn't right. Yes he's not necessarily a likeable bloke, but I find it pretty sad that the guy gets berated no matter what, and that even if he did a good job here a load of morons would still be on his back.

I believe that Megson made a profit on transfers and he kept them in the Prem. Admittedly his tyle of football was boring but it was effective for a club of Bolton's size. I really don't know what the Bolton fans/board expect. Do they really think that they could compete on equal terms with the top 8 teams in terms of players/results/entertainment?

The Bolton fans expect not to be bored out of there minds for 90 minutes every time they play, its silly to have a pop at Boltons fans because he bored the life out of Forest leicester and plenty of others. Its not all about making a profit on transfers etc etc and you can enjoy football without being in the prem and the Bolton fans would probably prefer to be out the prem but playing more attractive style of football anyway.

I have said it before the Premiership bubble will burst soon anyway and there will be a mass exodes of top players just like happened in Italy a few years ago and this will be better for grass roots football in the long run. Although I always stick up for City and say we are bigger than the likes of Bolton neither club belongs in this hyped up egotistic premiership as we are not fashionable but who cares because the premiership will become unfashionable soon anyway.

Have you ever heard a Bolton fan saying that? There was a poll in general sport about results versus entertainment last month and not many voted entertainment.

Ive not heard many Bolton fans complaining about Megson being sacked either or Forest fans when he was thrown out of there.

No one thought we would go into a world wide recession but we did or that house prices would ever go down but they are doing now. There is an old saying what goes up must come down the premiership bubble will burst we will see more and more money pile in first and like any bubble it will burst and when this happens a lot of clubs will go under and a lot of the top players will go abroad to Spain etc. In the longer term this will be better for smaller clubs like Leicester bolton etc.

We may be a bigger club over the past 30 years but the ’sky’ generation really do get on my tits with their bigger club comments.

Bolton were one of the original 12 founders of the football league, so more history than us, a 28k Stadium, so pretty much in the same ball park.

Have spent more time IN the top flight than out of it, so any comments about them being a league 2 team are crap. Won the FA Cup 4 times…compared to zero.

But when a manager takes over he doesn't look at history...he doesn't look at cups or league won in 1897. If that was the way it worked, we'd have Arsene Wenger at Bury, Alex Ferguson at Huddersfield and Jose Mourinho ruling Deepdale with an iron fist.

It's about modern-day propsects....do Bolton have much more prospect in the current climate than City? No IMO. They achieved their highest with Big Sam, we could have 35k to 40k every week down the Walkers if we had the O'neill period now. We average more than them now! Much attractive proposition for an investor to in terms of potential. Bolton will now because of the way football has gone struggle with United and Man City on their doorstep.

We and Forest didn't warm to Megson. The reason he made a profit on transfers was the selling of Diouf and Anelka. It doesn't warrant the major flop in signing a £7 million striker whose scored just six times......that's worse than Akinbiyi!

Bolton fall into the same category as Wigan, Blackburn and Burnley: Championship/League One sized clubs punching above their weight. They don't have the resources and support in the long run to sustain Premiership status.

Wigan will be fooked when Whelan snuffs it.

Blackburn are bigger than all that lot, they've won the Premier League which not many clubs can boast.

....thanks to Jack Walker's millions. No-one mentions it because it was Blackburn.

Largely funded by Jack Walker's millions - spending well beyond their natural size.

Theyre still not a big club lol

I actually feel sorry for Megson. He is universally hated by everyone except West Brom fans - and even sections of their fan base wish him nothing but failure. I can't understand why the bloke is so loathed. His brand of football is hideously boring, but we could say that about dozens of managers. Megson is generally a soft spoken fella, he does come across as fairly intelligent when he speaks and he doesn't say anything controversial.

He was hated the minute he stepped into Leicester. He was hated the minute he stepped into Bolton. Forest fans swore that they would reach the Premiership before Megson in the aftermath of his sacking there, although Megson was laughing and pissing at them from great heights.

Regardless, Bolton have overstayed their welcome in the topflight anyway.

Blackburns trophy cabinet will always be bigger than ours. Always. The only thing we have on them is bigger fan base, and that is largely down to geographical location and the size of the two towns/cities. Blackburn have a population of just over 100,000 and they are right on the doorstep of the two Manchester clubs and the two Liverpool clubs aren't far away either.

Totally agree with that

Maybe so but in my book winning the Premier League constitutes quite a large well-established club.

Forest fans hated him because he was a failure.

Leicester fans hated him because he was a Forest failure (a paradox).

Bolton fans hated him because he was a Premiership failure.

I can't explain why some sections of West Brom fans hate him apart from the fact he encourages a form of anti-football.

Maybe the fact that he completely ignores the fans and the Supporters Club who have invited him to their events which he has persistently refused to attend even though the players and chairman have has contributed to it. He just doesn't endear himself to the fans.

Part of the problem was that many supporters were still upset that Martin Allen left, who was popular with the fans, and with Megson's well-known style of football it all added up to an unpopular decision.

I don't think the Forest connection came into play heavily (he took them down and then struggled in League 1 with them, so maybe that was a worry for the fans).

Or he just has one of those faces that everybody hates.
