maddog Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ley/8454402.stm I would say NP is just as good a candidate as O'Driscoll and obviously better than Laws so maybe we're lucky to have kept him. NP seems to have slipped under the radar so far and hasn't been linked at all with any of these Prem jobs or anywhere near the top half of the new manager odds lists. http://www.oddschecker.com/football/footba...rmanent-manager He's not even on the Burnley list and theres some shit on there.
Edmund Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 I don't think it's been confirmed yet. Laws is also in the running according to ssn. It makes you wonder how Laws isn't deemed good enough for Wednesday in the championship but is one of the favourites to land a premiership job. What a change in fortunes.

What a change in fortunes. Can't see him going there to be honest. In fact, I'm still not sure who is going to. There have been plenty of favourites for this job, but nobody is willing to take it! Clearly not the most attactive club to manage despite their Premier League status. I actually think Lee Clarke would do the job for them... rate him quite highly as a coach / manager.

CosbehFox Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 If it is true, it's good to see some good the more traditional route of employing a manager as opposed to farming some foreign fella or handing over the reins to some fish out of water. As for Clark, given the money he's spent, it's hardly been brilliant at Galpharm.

As for Clark, given the money he's spent, it's hardly been brilliant at Galpharm. How much money has he spent? Not brilliant, they've played some of the best football in league 1 this season not to mention they score a shed load of goals and have picked themselves up a bargain in the signing of Rhodes. Not to forget their sitting in the playoffs.
Guest Bilo Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 If O'Driscoll goes to Burnley, I fear for Doncaster as he seems like something of a talisman for them. I couldn't really blame him if he went though, Donny are small fish in this division and he's probably taken them as far as he can.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 How much money has he spent? Not sure how much exactly but I reckon Huddersfield are certainly in the top 6 spenders in that division as far as wage budget and transfer outlay goes. Taking nothing away from Clark but anything less than play-offs for them wouldn't really be acceptable. If O'Driscoll goes to Burnley, I fear for Doncaster as he seems like something of a talisman for them. Agreed, he'd be extremely loyal/foolish to reject Burnley if indeed he gets offered the job.

For a club of Huddersfield's fanbase and budget, they should be in the playoffs of the third tier every year.
Jimothy Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Laws is close to taking over according to BBC live text thingy. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8454806.stm
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Laws is close now. Thought they could get someone better though.
StanSP Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Brian Laws? Sort of failed at Sheff Weds and gets to manage a Premier League team? Don't understand that.
Ultra Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Brian Laws?Sort of failed at Sheff Weds and gets to manage a Premier League team? Don't understand that. Me neither. It'll be interesting to see how Laws gets on in his first match in charge - away at Old Trafford.
BoneDog Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Looks like it is Laws then. Hope he does well there and keeps them up. Hopefully the Burnley players give him a great start and snatch something at Old Trafford. **** it I'm gonna go crazy this weekend and stick between £2.50 and £4.50 on a Burnley win.
MPH Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 On a general note about Pearson... Milan couldn't have a tighter grip on Pearson than if he had hold of his short and curlies with a pair of pliers. I think he learnt from his mistake with Megson being able to walk away so easily...
ozleicester Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Me neither. It'll be interesting to see how Laws gets on in his first match in charge - away at Old Trafford. I Wonder if it wont be quite completed until jussssst after the Manure match?
Ford Super Sunday Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Bizzare decision to get Laws, it smacks of 'the cheap option' but maybe they see something we havent. Though I remember Phil Brown being a total flop at Derby before getting the Hull job, bit of cash, promotion and then did ok in the Premier League. Starting out in the PL is a different kettle of fish of course. Though I expect a lot of money has been lumped on Burnley to go down now.
Tevez Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Brian Laws?Sort of failed at Sheff Weds and gets to manage a Premier League team? Don't understand that. What this guy said.

Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Law is by no means a premiership manager. But to suggest that he is responsible for Sheffield Wednesday's woes is complete folly. His man management skills need to be developed thats for sure but his coaching skills are up there with the best in this division. SWFC need investment if they are to reach the dizzy heights of yesteryear and with Alan Irvine now in charge I'm sure it will not be long in coming. Laws is more than capable of keeping Burnley in the premiership, he has a good bunch of players and as long as he doesn't go around upsetting them he'll do well, but he does have a habit of thinking he's Brian Clough but with not quite the same clout or ability.
tartanowl Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 That really is laughable. Crap at signing players, crap at motivating them (this season says it all) and in 15 years in management he has managed 2 promotions at S****horpe. Now he's a Premier League manager? We are in a far worse position than when he arrived even though the budget he had was significantly higher than his predecessors. He has left us in a terrible state with a squad bereft of confidence with players who are not motivated and don't get on with each other. I hope he takes some of his duds with him. The only player we have worth keeping is Lee Grant.

Of course Laws is responsible. We are improving off the pitch but went backwards on it. We shouldn't be up competing at the top end of the table but we shouldn't be where we are either. We have cliques in the dressing room, a poor squad of players (only one of his signings have been any good), and we are going to struggle to stay in the division. The buck stops with one man for that.
