Legend_in_blue Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 This may sound harsh, but it's true. N'Guessan, Adams, Dyer (to an extent), all natural wingers who should play the wings. Not good enough for this level of football. It's as simple as that. I'm not going into a debate about putting other players in these positions, because it's been harped on about for an age, but if Nigel Predictable continues to do so, or does not use natural wingers on a consistent basis, then surely he must think the natural wingers we've got aren't good enough. He's sold the quickest player we've got/had down the right. He's now even resorted to playing Powell instead of McGivern. The signings made, permanent or not, don't cut it. Signing Solano - desperation or a sign of attacking intent with decent wing play? Time will tell.
Guest ttfn Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Our main problem this season is that Howard is past it. He was so crucial to us last season (winning player of the year on this forum I believe?) but this season he has been pretty useless. Our whole style of play is built around him (or a player like him) as the midfield are technically incompetent. Everything else has been said.
Babylon Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Christ... good job we had a good start to the season or some of you lot would be on suicide watch!!
lou Posted 27 January 2010 Posted 27 January 2010 Just stop playing players out of position and ffs stop REFUSING to sub Oakley when hes playing shit (most of the time) We have no width and our back 4 just hoof it all the time. CBA to type anymore Im tired and my eyes hurt Saying all that Im still happy with where we are and never expected to get as high up the league as we have.
Raj Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Is it really time for talk of crisis at City? We've seen ALOT worse at this level over the years. Never really expected much from this group of lads when we got promoted, would just have been happy with staying up to be fair!!! Fair enough, some players are playing shit, and thats the only thing i'd ask of NP-have the balls to drop your favs and give someone else a chance. If he wants to experiment with different players and positions, fair enough, but if it dont work resort back to those that do work. We as City fans do like blowing hot and cold though...if we win 2 games in a row we are world beaters,if we lose 2 its a crisis!! We're just a mediocre club with majority of mediocre players who are destined for mediocricy(sp)....As long as we have a few exciting games now and again and avoid relegation i aint that bothered at the moment!!!! If things get really bad...we can always ask for Megson back!!!
Raj Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Thats not to say i dont want us to be World Beaters and be the Real Madrid of The Midlands...I do but some things just aint gonna happen. I wanted to be 6ft tall, handsome, sophisticated and marry a super model...i'm not and i didnt.....But i'm happy how i am (just) and with who i am with(for now!!!)

Our recent performances display flaws that, frankly, are apparent to anyone who watches us play. Somethings you can do little about but others, such as giving the ball back to the opposition as quickly as possible, poor set pieces, players out of position, defending too deep etc, etc can actually be dealt with. I refuse to label our team as mediocre without at least finding out if we can actually do better by changing the way we play!

But surely NP trying out players in different roles is him trying to do better by changing the way we play????
Ozwin Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 That's the most annoying thing, we could be capable of playing well but Pearson constantly plays Gallagher/Oakley on the wing which completely messes everything else up. Get players in their actual positions and then have a go at how **** they are. At the minute it's not really justified.

Its all about time scales! No one is suggesting we would accept "mediocrity" for the next 20 years, BUT after just being relegated into the 3rd division for the first time ever and coming out the other side so quickly (unlike Forest and Leeds) most fans are just being realistic thats all. Its not easy when youve just been promoted from Lge 1 and the loss of income that entails to be successful in the league above, but by and large weve acheived it! Were in the top half of an extremely competitive league and competing against teams with more money, bigger squads and who are ESTABLISHED in this league. Yes were having a bad run at the moment (I for one dont think weve played particularly well all season barring a couple of exceptions) but for most of us our current position far exceeds where we expected to be right now. Cant anyone just be happy were still competing and not hanging on for grim death round the bottom of the table? NP is doing a pretty good job in difficult circumstances IMO I cant imagine MM is the easiest Chairman to work with either?

He is simply slotting other players into his beloved 4-4-2 and asking them to continue with the same longball game in the vague hope that something will click. Not very likely, sadly!

Exactly...its taken the likes of Forest a few years of investing and establishing themselves in this league to find themselves at the topish. Then the likes of Cardiff et al have all been there or there abouts. Its asking alot for these lads to just do it in the league. But i do hope NP learns sooner or later that some players just done have it or have it in the positions he is playing em....Keep the Faith...
Edmund Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Am I the only one getting bored of people comparing us to Forest in every thread.
lou Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Am I the only one getting bored of people comparing us to Forest in every thread. No comparison really, theyre a bloody good (and expensive) side and we are not
Daggers Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 People across threads keep citing Forest as the result of time spent squad building as if this is all we need. It's a fallacy to mention Forest - last year, their first season up they spent more on Earnshaw than we have one buying all of our new recruits. And he wasn't the only one. Twelve months later and they spend even more. This is only their second season back in this league but they have a substantially stronger squad than us due to the quantity of money thrown at it. Mandaric has not given anywhere near the same level of financial support and consequently we will not be in Forest's position this time next season. Just like his promises of Premiership football and investment come January out of his own pocket - the one he made about us not being a selling club is total bullshit, that is precisely what we are going to be. He'll trot out lies about the size of our wage bill being the largest in the Championship or that the right players aren't available or that loyalty is a commodity players no longer have...but there will be no multi-millions spent. It's all about the honesty: him being honest with us, and we with ourselves.

lou Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 No as we wont be spending over 11 million on players!

Corky Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 It's not called cliché Thursday for nothing. Let's take one game at a time.
Koke Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Christ... good job we had a good start to the season or some of you lot would be on suicide watch!! Early season form spoilt most people. Back in October several people on here said when things start to go a wee bit tits up, people will go into a "sack the players, sell the board" mode. And that is precisely what is happening. Roll onto to Saturday evening post-match Newcastle when we lose 3-1 to a vastly superior outfit than us.
Daggers Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Let's be frank, there are no easy games in International football.
Babylon Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Back in October several people on here said when things start to go a wee bit tits up, people will go into a "sack the players, sell the board" mode. Yeah I was one of them.
