And that's what annoys me, in an ideal world (which, if the right players become available, isn't totally impossible), we could play that way. Currently though we just don't have the players to do it. That and Pearson's defensive-minded tactics.

I'm a big believer in the standard 4-4-2 with full backs and wingers, so it frustrates me when central-minded players are completely wasted out wide. We've seen it for so long though by now you just accept it and make do with what you have.

No you do not have to accept it!

Devise a way to play that makes the most of the players we have. Not every idea will work but here's a handful to start with.

Flat back 4 with Solano and Berner as normal attacking but not suicidal fullbacks.

Central 3 in midfield chosen from the usual trio plus Adams. (yes Adams, when he gets back from the east)

Two strikers pushed well forward in wide, attacking positions, but prepared to cover the full backs when required.

Lone striker through the middle who can handle ball in to feet, in the air and even balls over the top.

Use the midfield 3 and the wide men to establish a passing game and keep the ball mostly on the floor.

Be patient, be prepared to play the ball through midfield and keep possession.

You know what, we might actually have the players who can do that....

I actually believe if we was taken over by a multi millionaire and funds became available, we'd still play the same pathetic way. The last decade we've got into a habit of it no matter whoever is the manager. It needs sorting out because I'm tired of watching the same tactics employed by every manager we have in this league.

If Leicester allowed flair players onto the playing staff and were actually entertaining to watch we could fill that stadium week in week out, in this league. I don't care for clean sheet dreams Pearson, they may excite you but I pay money to see some goal action. I've seen enough 0-0 draws and 1-0 defeats over the past 6-7 years in this league.

The club really makes me laugh every home game they are desperate for a sell out crowd, put your hand in your pocket and make the football worth watching and you just might achieve it. Of course, fools like me will still trot along though, don't worry about that. :nono:

Last night inperticular as well as Ipswich and Swansea we just looked to have ran out of ideas. It was the same ball everytime which clearly wasn't working. Barnsley had Darren Moore, one of the worst defenders in this division, at the back. And we just played it into his hands with aimless long balls straight to his and the other centre backs head. Gallagher cannot stay out wide to save his life. And when N'Guessan gets the ball he'll either produce an epic run or just lose it straight away.

I don't see what Oakley has done the whole of this season to warrent starting every game. When Wellens and King have had bad games they have been dropped yet Oakley can play bad every week and walk straight back into the team for the next game.

Last season (albeit in League One) was refreshing and you'd think Nigel could pull off another surprise on a higher level. Hardly anyone was expecting a second straight promotion, but at least that we'd continue playing good, convincing, entertaining football.

Well, it's a different matter altogether with Championship teams. We've found our level it seems, can't or don't want to climb up the table any further or can't or don't drop any further down for now. We're not playing well, convincing and/or entertaining (except for that one game against QPR).

Recently, I've started wondering whether Pearson deliberately tinkers with the starting eleven, just so he doesn't have to justify being in a playoff spot. He probably knows that the squad is strong enough to compete in the Championship, but too weak to push for one of the six best spots or the playoffs. What's been happening lately? Playing players out of position, fielding players that look out of their depth or are unfit, dropping more able players in exchange for personal favourites, loaning out promising youngsters to other teams or even selling them right out. We're lacking unity at the moment and it's somewhat depressing to see what team choices have been made in the past few weeks. You can't just blame it on injuries to some key players (Berner or Tunchev). Defense could be fine if we finally had a steady back four. Midfield doesn't provide enough services for the strikers and the lack of proper wingers hurts (indeed, and that's why the recent Gradel business baffles me a bit - what style of play is Person aiming for then? A stripped-down midfield - half-naked?). And an overabundance of strikers isn't an ideal situation, either. Buying policy gone horribly wrong?

Of course, anyone knows better. I'm just stating what I personally see as suited. And the three-game losing streak might be a blip, still. Yet it's frustrating to see Leicester City FC underperforming. Any fan who's been a follower of this club over the last four, five years knows that constant crap performances only lead one way. And that ain't promotion. And no one wants to go back there.

Shit!

That's a whole lot to read and haven't got time.

I think I agree with the basis of what is being said here..

Genuine width is required, Dyer and N'Guessen will do for me with Pops Nobby coming off the bench for the last 25.

Howard and Fryatt up top with Waghorn to come on also for the last 25.

Truth is that team isn't good enough to get us in the top 6, but will probably make the top half and that will do for the first year back in the Championship.

Lets hope by then Mandy is not in the nick and he can put in some investment to push us onto the next level.

IF Pearson keeps tinkering and making bafflingly silly selections and using frustrating formations we may end up sliding into the bottom half.

Pearson's early season tactics have been found out, I hope he has it in his locker to identify that and make the required changes.

The problem with us is we have no goals in us, the only player(s) that look dangerous going up front is King, Fryatt and N'guassan. Its been our problem all season, not scoring enough or every fkin home game, let a goal in and have to work very hard for a draw or a lucky last minute goal. Now this season, i wasnt expecting us to do aswell as we have, due to us pretty much having the same squad as last year in league. At christmas, i thought to myself, can we actually do it, get into the playoffs, as tbh we have done well to have got the results we have. I was thinking, maybe Mandaric will actually buy some players to help us push for something, as we were in a good position and so far, nothing.

Was at the game last night and out of all the players who need to be changed it has to be Wellens, and Oakley. Both Wellens and Oakley were terrible! I swear most people watch a different game to me but Oakley cannot pass a ball he really cant, he can put a good hard tackle in every now and then but that's about it, as for Wellens he is a bit hit and miss for me ! gets pushed off the ball far to easy and fails to put 100% every now and then ! Browns worst enemy is pace, or his lack of it he wasn't terrible last night but he could have had the pressure taken off him if we had a midfield, we spent the whole second half under pressure, it was embarrassing the home crowd never even got behind Barnsley and yet they walked away with smiles on their faces. its a matter of getting the players to realise what is on their shirts and getting them to play for it !

We're just lacking a bit of confidence and results are going against us, it's no biggie. Ok we're not playing very well at the minute but apart from a few select games, we hardly set the world alight performance-wise in our good patch. We previously won a lot of games by one goal and now we're losing a couple by one goal, it's not the end of the world.

As people have said, we need to get back to basis as far as playing people in the right position. For me that's 4-4-2 with proper full-backs (Neilson and Berner when fit) and proper wingers (N'Guessan and Dyer). Once that happens, the standard of football should get better because everyone knows their position and how to maximise their ability. I personally think the most key player to us getting back on track with is Fryatt, who in my opinion has more skill on the ball than most of the rest of the players have combined. Whoever plays in central midfield needs to realise that this guy always causes problems if you pass it to his feet.

I haven't been to Swansea, Cardiff or Barnsley last night so I can't personally pinpoint where I think we're going wrong but to me it sounds like just a bit of confidence gone missing. It does sound like in the last couple of games we've created plenty of chances and we seem to be nearly seeing the best of Dany N'Guessan, so it's not all doom and gloom.

My only major gripe with Pearson, particularly this season, is his constant tinkering. Settled line-ups always produce better results than those which are constantly chopped and changed. It's even more baffling when you consider that Pearson's tactics haven't changed, we know what we are now get a settled 11 and knuckle down.

I don't think it'll take a lot for us to get back on track, we just need to score first in a game and squeeze out a result, even a draw would be ok to set the foundation. Once we do get a result or two, I'd be surprised if we managed to go back to our early season form but there's no reason why we still can't challenge for 6th.

I certainly wouldn't be adding to the squad this January, on reflection it seems like a waste of time to me when we've already got quite a large squad which is slightly top-heavy. The most activity I would do is to maybe move on one or two and maybe bring in a youngster on loan eager to impress. I've got nothing against older players at all, but to me searching for the likes of Martin Taylor et al. isn't really the way I'd go.

Overall, not a lot is massively wrong, just a few results going against us. We've got a good squad, not great but good, we'll be fine.

I agree largely with this.

Strikers: This is a position that I am failing to understand. Kermorgant should be a back-up to Steve Howard, who has proved with the right service that he can be a goalscorer. What amazes me is all the people slating the crossing when we've just signed Solano, that problem is more or less sorted. Fryatt is a natural goalscorer, he'd be top scorer in the league if the service was better. Waghorn is a good player, maybe used as an impact sub? And Gallagher hasn't even been given a chance to shine up front.

1. Chris Weale

2. Robbie Neilson -- 4. Michael Morrison -- 25. Jack Hobbs -- 29. Chris Powell

?. Nobby Solano -- 19. Richie Wellens -- 10. Andy King -- 17. Dany N'Guessan

9. Steve Howard © -- 12. Matty Fryatt

Waghorn prior to being suspended had scored 5 goals for us, and that's considering that he wasn't even a regular until October. Then he got suspended and didn't play for well over a month, and has just recently returned. I'm still a big believer in the Waghorn-Fryatt strike force. Problem is that neither of them will win one header between them in 90 minutes - which brings me to my next point, that N'Guessan needs to start. He may inconsistent, but he's a threat and only one of our few players who are actual match-winners. On top of that, he's a threat in the air and his aerial abilities is a major plus for us, thus we don't have to constantly rely on Howard.

The reason Oakley is being played despite his constant Sunday League U16's performances is due to the fact that if we don't we will be overrun in the midfield. Why else do you think Nigel persist with him? Just for the sake of it? Consider this; Every player in that team has been dropped at one point this season - Matt Oakley hasn't. The bloke is in a comfort zone despite his displays on the pitch are worse than mine in the bedroom - and plus the fact that he has the captaincy armband there is an aura of invincibility around him because managers usually don't drop their captains. Nolberto Solano's arrival should change this hopefully.

The back is a whole other issue, and can't be arsed going into that.

Gally should not be playing out wide, it's as simple as that. The whole reason were not scoring enough is because were playing central midfielders out wide and their delivery into the box has been shocking. I hope to god Solano puts in a good performance against newcastle, so we can stop playing either Oakley or Gallagher out wide.

Time and time again we've heard Galagher in interviews saying where he preferes to play, and the fact he's playing out of position every game is ruining his confidence. It's not going to be long before he gets fed up of playing out of position, and then the effort is just going to disapear (were already seeing signs of this). The problem pearsons facing is every time he's played Gally up front he's never looked like a threat, and seems unable to run at players.

Service into the box has been our problem throughout, i've been to nearly every home game this season, and am still yet to see a decent cross or free kick from Oakley, how he is still in our starting 11 is impossible to understand, he hasnt had a single good game for us this season, and he seems to have no idea how to talk to the squad during a game. As captain he's supposed to be organising our squad, the only times he ever seems to speak to anybody is before free kicks, and his inability to put a decent cross or corner into the box is costing us.

Our squad is decent, Our defence isnt as bad as everybody makes out, we have decent strikers and wingers, we just have nothing in the middle of the park apart from wellans' through balls to Fryatt/Waghorn, which teams are starting to cotton on to now.

We have players capable of playing quality football, but it seems were stuck playing players who think they automatically get a place in the squad out of merit, we need something we've been missing for some time, a leader.

Hopefully with Danny on form, and the introduction of Solano, our wide play will be dangerous against Newcastle. Kicking the ball into orbit every time we get it isnt working any more.

On a positive note if we win our games in hand, were still in the mix for the play-offs, which is more than anybody here expected at the end of last season. If we stay up this season i'll be more than happy.

C'mon Leicester.....

OK I am writing this on the back of several bad recent performances!

I am frustrated as everyone else with the lack of effort from the players & Terrible individual performances from certain players. Also I am very worried that our management deem it fit to make decisions which seem very wrong to me & other fans that I spoke with at Barnsley last night.

Last night was a horror show, it felt like I had gone back in time & was watching Leicester from the past 2-6 years when we were awful in the Championship. Barnsley are a bad side, we made them look OK!

McGivern & Neilson have been rightly dropped. Their lack of quality has been obvious even to Nigel Pearson who seems to barnacle himself to anyone he has put faith into. Brown should be added to this list, now! Brown's inability to pass to another Blue shirt, & also the continuous HOOF up front is predictable and basicly sh1t. I believe Brown can be an asset to the team, but the team must play to cover his deficiencies which they did not do against Forest. Brown is good in the tackle and in the air but is slow as fcuk and has very poor distribution, so keep him off the ball!

The midfield last night were poor! Oakley has to be dropped he is not un-dropable! Wellens is out of form, but his quality still makes him an instant selection, when he does not play our distribution of the ball becomes very one dimensional, the play never spreads with out him. King is developing well, but it is a big ask to expect him to carry a poor midfield, N'Guessain, IMO was poor but was our best offensive threat I don't rate him that highly. Gallagher shows some great touches on the ball and his control is excellent, his set piece delivery was poor last night, but who do we have who consistently delivers quality balls into danger areas? No-one! Ghallagher seems to be have purchased with out a reason.

We sold a left back and purchased a forward, with only Chrissy Powell as cover! Now NP loans in McGivern, Man City have terrible Left Back problems, Bridge is poor, & They recently signed Sylvinho in on a free, much like we have done with Solano. This suggests to me that neither Hughes or Our Roberto are remotely impressed with McGivern. Why has this guys loan been renewed? Can our scouts or management be bothered to even find out if another better option is available, or should we just accept the fact that we now loan in very poor players? That is unacceptable from my point of view. McGivern is not our player, last night our manager had more faith in a 40 year old veteran, he may be twice as old but he is at least twice as good. Ghallagher is a forward or at worst a deep lying forward so lets play him there, not on the wing, full back or in goal.

Our other Free Bee Yann is also Toss. I have seen him now against many different opposition but he offers very little. I can not think of 1 thing he can do better than Howard other than speak French which is of little use to LCFC. Our top goal scorer was on the bench last night! Waghorn is a good player, I like him, but IMO Fryatt should start with Howard or Waghorn depending on the opposition defences different weaknesses.

Nigel Pearson may possibly be the most stubborn manager we have had that I can remember at Leicester City. to continue with Neilson, McGivern, Brown, Oakley & Kermo, when I have seen little quality from them all season is a recipe for disaster. Players like Gradel sold for £200k and Adams who is continually on loan, they would have made an impact last night. I understand that NP has no money for transfers at all, so he is in a position when he has to deal at a lower end of the market than we would all like, but to sell a good prospect and loan Adams who is a good young player, who I can not remember having a poor game for us or even a continual run in the side is very unsatisfactory to me. In fact I would go as far to say I am very angry about the Gradel situation, & extremely miffed at the treatment that Adams endures at our club.

I respect the job that Nigel has done! I think that NP has certain strengths which make him a good manager, but recently some unusual decisions have been made, which are fine when you are winning, I mean we can sell young players as long as the players on the pitch are doing the business, but at present it looks very bad. On last nights performance we need 15 points to stay up it is the first time this season I have looked at the wrong end of the table, a month ago we were looking for playoffs we MUST have some facets to win matches in our side. I am very much going off Pearson, he has done a wonderful job, but as a man & football manager he seems to have some ugly aspects to his character, I really don't give a sh1t however as long as we do well, or we go down with fight not a whimper like we did last night.

Oakley needs to be dropped for Adams ASAP. Wellens for his faults would be the best man for the Captains armband.

The worst thing to come out of last night was the desire to have the ball from our players. I lost count of the times our defence passed the buck to Morrison who was left with no-one wanting the ball, utter disgrace. At throwing their was no movement, I remember Powell holding the ball for what seemed like 20 seconds, and every time the only player who moved or even remotely wanted the ball was Wellens.

I was ranting all the way to the car, really really angry. I thought those days / performances were a thing forgotten in a terrible era, but last night they were back. Horrendous performance!

Tunchev is almost back! Thank the lord!

Agree with it all.

Except Kermo did win a great flick on to an instant Dany N'Guessan goal with Swansea.

So in that respect he's 1-1 with Howard who won the flick on that lead to the instant Waghorn goal at Coventry.

But Howard has played a lot more than Yann, and is a lot older, and slower, and moans a lot so Yann should still be in the frame.

Gallagher just brings nothing to the team. I've seen him play a few times and more or less everytime all he has done is pick up the ball, look up and then kick it. What is the point? His passes are rarely completed and every time he attempts to cross it, it doesn't clear the first man.

It's a shame Pearson seems to like him, because had he not made his mind up with Max a long time ago, then I think he could have had his shot out there. Nobody has seen a great deal of N'Guessan yet, I think he has a long way to go until he can become a first teamer, but I think it's time he had a shot.

At the end of the day we were bound to hit a bad streak of form some time or later and if anyone thought the few games before we played the sheffield's was it they were wrong. I knew something like this would happen and its how we react to it that matters now.

I am not surprised we are lacking confidence as a team we have lost an experianced left back for a shoddy loanee who is nothing more then a bench warmer.....Berner would have bought experiance and also helped organize at the back giving brown some support...... brown has got to take on that job now and i think he just has too much to do and thats why he is not up to his best he service has always been the weakest point of his game but at the same time I think it has become more highlighted recently due to the teams frailties at the back. Hobbs and morrison are great and will get better but they are still young and they need guidence and support at the back from experienced players. I think we need to buy or loan in an experienced utility player someone like a steve finnan would be great ( note i said like and not steve finnan) .

Midfield wise i totally agree we need to play people in their positions..........king, oakley and wellens are all central midfielders and that is where they should play. Why we sell gradel a right winger and loan out adams another winger i have no idea that only leaves us with dyer and n'guessen as real winger options now a winger shoud have pace strength and give service to the front men thats what i count as a winger. I think Gallagher would play his best football floating behind the front two and not from the right. Solano will give us better service but i would be suprised if he offers any strength or pace. The best wingers in the league all offer pace and good service and I don't see we have that option.

In terms of strikers we are clearly lacking goals fryatt has been great but we can't just relay on him all season, The others need to start chipping in kermo and howard are two that i don't think will ever score lots but will be much more suited to holding up and playing in people like fryatt, waghorn is good but can be a bit of a headless chicken sometimes.

I think the squad could do with some loanee's to liven things up but i think it is a gradual process building a squad to do well in this league and I don't think our squad is strong enough at the moment.

The thing that worries me is that NP hasn't invested the money that MM has given him anywhere near wisely enough. There's no doubting Wellens' quality - but if,as NP seems to have decided, his captain fantastic Oakley will never be left out, then spending a large amount of the transfer kitty here wasn't a great use of money.

Paul Gallagher - again, has shown that he is a decent enough player - but he was never going to get a regular start up-front given NPs liking for a tall striker, together woth Waghorn and Fryatt around the squad. He's not a winger, and there's no way we were going to go through the season playing him at the front of a midfield 4 - we don't have other players in the squad who could make this work. He doesn't bring anything to the team other than a lack of balance because of where he is being played. We'll never recoup what we paid for him either, given the way he has been playing.

We didn't act quickly enough to find a CB to get on loan when it became clear that Tunchev was crocked for the long-term, and the quality of the loan signings has not matched that of last year given the respective divisions we were in.

The signing of Hobbs for £400k is one bright light - and this is how we should be investing any transfer money, so we can take grow players values, sell if necessary and reinvest - a bit like Cardiff (Roger Johnson, Glenn Loovens, Chopra etc etc)

I take no confidence at all from the players we've recruited since this time last season that the club is steadily improving - We clearly overachieved in the first half of the season, and if the limit of our ambitions in this transfer window is Solano then we're not heading anywhere better than mediocre. This doesn't match at all with Mandaric's bravado that he would invest. Surely he'd be better to come out and say he's not going to put money in, so at least we'd know what NP was dealing with.

I know I should be delighted with where we are now - first season back in - but I can't ignore the context around our current position and I just see a set of players going backwards not forwards, and nothing particularly inspiring about any of our players, or our style of play.

Can I just say quality post I too agree with it all!

Just one thing I too cannot understand what NFP sees in Kermogant either. He is not fitr to lace Howards or Fryatts Boots Fact!

Great post...

Absolutely gutted Gradel has gone, a decision I do not agree with. Why do we always sell our best young talent?

When will Tunchev be ready for the first team?

I'd recall DJ, and play him upfront with Fryatt, then use Waghorn, Howard and Kermogant as impact subs.

We need some creativity in midfield, there's still a couple of days left for a loan..
