Geo V Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Post your favourite memories of games against our next opponents and also your most negative. If this thread goes well then we can maybe do one for each opponent we are about to play, if it bombs out then we can turn the thread into a hate thread for Mandaric or something? Best - 5-4 home win at Filbert Street. I used to love the games at Filbo against Newcastle because the Geordies used to come in their masses and sing all day. We would always hold our own over in the Penns and it made for a fantastic atmosphere. I guess the win I am thinking of was in about 1989? If memory serves me David Kelly scored 3 or four of our goals. Worst - 4-3 away loss. I had gathered all my mates down here in London to watch the game live on Sky. Id taken years of ridicule from them as they are either Spurs or Arsenal fans who mock little sides like City as they would say. They couldnt get around someone living down here who supports Leicester but I was beaming with pride as we lead 3-1 before that pissstain Sheeeeeeeeeerar grabbed a late hat-trick to send me into the bathroom to attempt to slit the wrists. Anyone got any memories of our next opponents? The game or even pub stories/nights out in Newcastle after the game will do!
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 I went to see Newcatle boxing day 2003 was a sell out a bloke i was staying with swap a roast with his neighbour for his 2 season tickets just so we could go. Though we would win i think a late Newcastle goal drew it 1-1 also remember Bernard getting the ball kicked in to him.

Lorent Robert absolutely lashed the ball, which was heading out to the touchline, smack into Bernards face - he wobbled for a bit in quite comical fashion and then hit the deck. Probably shouldn't laughed at the time but it was funny the manner in which he fell over!

Robert just smashed it . That boxing day match was the biggest attendance we've had at the Walkers, Hopefully this week we can get that amount of support.
Spencer Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 28th Dec 1999. It was 1-1 right until the death, where I proudly claimed 'I'm happy with the draw', and one of there players lashes home a free kick, nice one!
fox123 Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 My first trip to St James Park we lost 7-1 (1993). Leicester faithful were still in good voice though.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 My first trip to St James Park we lost 7-1 (1993). Leicester faithful were still in good voice though. That's awesome, one of the reasons I love city they always seem to have great away support.
Corky Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Best- Beating them 2-0 in 1996 after they'd just beaten Man Utd 5-0. We were superb that day, Heskey in particular. Worst- Losing 2-1 at home in 1999/2000, in the middle of a poor run of results. They weren't special at all that year and we should've beaten them.

fox123 Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 wasnt that the season we had already made the play offs.Still very painful to watch though. We had made the play-offs and Newcastle were already confirmed that they had been promoted, so it was a party atmosphere. The result wasn't nice, Newcastle were awesome, but was still a great day and night.
Webbo Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 My earliest memory of newcastle when Jock Wallace was manager. We got a penalty in the first 5 minutes and then hung on for the rest of the game. All through the game the Newcastle fans were chanting 'geordie, geordie' non stop. I thought it was the most electric atmosphere I'd ever heard. The match was featured on MOTD that night and it was terrible.
maddog Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Neil Lennon getting booted in the head by Shearer who got nothing for it. Fooking awful. And the Robert incident was comedy. I remember being Newcastle on FIFA 96 on PC and Asprilla was amazing on there. Too young to remember him actually playing for the real life Newcastle, but he scored most of my goals on that FIFA game, 13+ years ago now time does fly.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Remember that 1-1 Boxing Day game well, how we didnt win that I'll never know! That summed up our season.
rico Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 1992 at Filbert St,when we lost 2-1. Gavin Peacock gave them the lead,Walshy levelled it in the 89th minute and then scored an own goal in the 90th Massive pitch invasion with loads of fisticuffs on the pitch after the final whistle!
David Guiza Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 One of the first away games i can remember was 2-0 at St James's Park Savage and Cottee i think were the scorers but i could be wrong.

Think your right. Savage definitely scored, it was a racker in the top corner from the edge of the box.

Finnegan Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 That 3 - 4 was horrific. I can't remember why we were there but I watched it at the old Rolls Royce between Rothley and Sorrel with a whole load of Rothley Imps FC. Gutting.
Lisburn Fox Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Wet Wednesday night around 1981 won 4 - 0 at St James park Lineker Hatrick (I think)
