Bert Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Unless you get Estonia, the play-offs do not look like something you'd want to be involved in.
Narborough_fox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Owen Coyle would be a good fit for Scotland, but he's hardly 'wasted at Bolton' mate. If he's so fantastic, why are Bolton bottom of the league? Man United, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs in your first 7 games pretty much sums that up. He doesn't have enough backing to take Bolton any further in my opinion and without Sturridge they just look toothless up front.
Corky Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Where's that been said. Would be a good appointment for anyone, wasted at Bolton. I've heard many times that he'd be perfect for Arsenal. So maybe not going, but I doubt he'd take the Scotland job.
The Doctor Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Don't see Levein has done that poor a job - start of the campaign was an absolute disgrace but after that he seems to have learned from his mistakes, we have picked up somewhat and, despite what some city fans will say, he's a decent manager. I'd be fine with seeing him in the dug-out come the start of qualifying.
Narborough_fox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I've heard many times that he'd be perfect for Arsenal. So maybe not going, but I doubt he'd take the Scotland job. And as I said didn't that used to be a highlight of a footballing career. We need someone to put more commitment into the team and tell them that they need to stand up and be counted like Smith and McLeish did while they were at the helm. Someone who really cares about his country. Dalglish-esque but obviously not Dalglish.
Father Ted Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I for one am not surprised at all that we got knocked out. Antic got sacked even though everybody loved him which led to turmoil. There was fighting within the Serbian FA, some players refused to play. Stojkovic the goalkeeper caused massive shit by joining Partizan despite playing previously for Red Star - something you dont do. We have been unlucky with injuries to key players like Vidic, Kuzmanovic and Krasic at vital times. The Estonia home game was a disgrace, if anybody can find highlights then watch them, you will piss yourself. But more importantly, they cant play as a team. Arguably the best defence in the WORLD. But clowns as goalkeepers (the only good gk Brkic wasnt even picked) and a strikeforce as deadly as Lloyd Dyers right foot. This is where I just have to dream of how good a Yugoslavia team would be right now: Begovic Corluka - Ivanovic - Vidic - Kolarov Pandev - Modric - Kranjcar Jovetic - Dzeko- Vucinic Subs: Handanovic, Subotic, Srna, Pjanic, Tosic, Eduardo, Petric. **** me that team would be the best in the world.

Not sure if any of this is serious. Is it? I hope, for your sake, it's not.
Father Ted Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Narh, that's ours. Macedonia are pretty decent as well. Honest to God, no trolling, Scotland could SERIOUSLY finish bottom of that group. Scotland WILL come last.
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Even if I was Scottish I'd rather cut my own cock off than manage that load of shite.
purpleronnie Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Scotland WILL come last. I will gladly take that bet, scotland will not finish last.
Father Ted Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Not sure if any of this is serious. Is it? I hope, for your sake, it's not. Why do you 'hope for my sake, its not'?
Father Ted Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 I will gladly take that bet, scotland will not finish last. Who do you think will finish lower then?
Corky Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 If you put the Spanish players in that team, and changed the name to Spain, it would be the best team in the world.
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Why do you 'hope for my sake, its not'? You think any of those 11 you've just named would get into the first choice Spanish team? They wouldn't come close to being the best in the world. And are you saying Serbia have currently the best defence in the world?
shen Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Brilliant performance!! Well chuffed! Absolutely... could and probably should've scored 3 or 4!

They wouldn't come close to being the best in the world. And are you saying Serbia have currently the best defence in the world? Modric and Vidic. Ivanovic at a push. Capdevila aint too great either. It would have potential to get very far in a major competition. Name me a better backline than: Ivanovic-Subotic-Vidic-Kolarov
ScouseFox Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Modric and Vidic. Ivanovic at a push. Capdevila aint too great either. It would have potential to get very far in a major competition. Name me a better backline than: Ivanovic-Subotic-Vidic-Kolarov Modric in for who? Xavi? Iniesta? Silva? Alonso? Nah. And personal preference, much of a muchness but I'd rather have Puyol and Pique than Vidic. And Ramos-Pique-Puyol-Capdevila is better. Let's be honest, if it was the best backline in the world, they'd probably have finished higher than 3rd in their qualifying group and conceded less than 12 goals against the likes of Estonia, Northern Ireland and Slovenia. But yes, that'd be a good enough team to reach quarters and semis of major tournaments. Not sure they'd beat Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Holland though. We'll never know, I guess.

Guest DavidJCW Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 Just remembered the Belgian qualifying group for the WC2014... tough but ultimately a group we could progress from. Croatia have to be the big favourites and Serbia and Macedonia will provide a stern test too... but overall, it could well be open. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!! Oh... and Scotland and Wales I'm sure will have their moments...

Modric over Busquets. And a fit Vidic over Pique and Puyol, just a shame he isnt 100% fit more often. As ive said before, the keepers are a joke. Just look a slovenias goal tonight - a 45 yard free kick! As well as missing Vidic and Subotic at times through injury and suspension. Also, Serbia are shit everywhere else on the pitch bar defence and its wingers!! I retract my comment that it would be the best in the world but it would give teams like Holland and Argentina a good game.
Father Ted Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 and I thought I was delusional. I stick by my comment that Serbia have arguably the best backline in the world. Not many countries can boast to have a backline of Man U's captain, a Chelsea player who has made it into the Premiership team of the year, a Man City defender and a rock at the heart of the Bundesliga champions defence. look at scotlands defence haha looks like a championship defence to me
Guest MattP Posted 11 October 2011 Posted 11 October 2011 It's a great defence on paper but its conceded 12 goals in a pisspoor group and conceded at home to Faroe Islands and 3 at home to Estonia, I dont think the best in the world will be quaking yet. Pique goes behind no one best centre half in the world. I retract my comment that it would be the best in the world but it would give teams like Holland and Argentina a good gam You went out the groups of the World Cup losing to Ghana and Australia.
shen Posted 12 October 2011 Posted 12 October 2011 I stick by my comment that Serbia have arguably the best backline in the world. It's good on paper, but that means f* all. Jacobsen (Everton/Blackburn/West Ham reject) - Kjær (Utter fail at Wolfsburg) - Bjelland (who?) - Silberbauer (again, who?) This lineup kept Ronaldo, Nani & Co completely quiet. They could've kept on for another 90 minutes and Portugal still wouldn't have won. Just goes to show what a 'team on paper' means.
