davieG Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 From OS Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has challenged his current starting eleven to earn their shirt as the competition for places at the Walkers Stadium heats up. With City facing seven games in February there is a risk that some of the star players may tire but Pearson insists if they keep producing the goods they'll continue to be selected. "When the team is playing well it is quite nice to be able to stick with the same line-up. It's up to the players that are currently in the side to stay there. We've got competition for places in most positions at the moment and that's obviously healthy." Despite City's strength in depth, Pearson admits that he may have to do a bit more business between now and the end of the season if they are to maintain their play-off push. "I think we're going to have to add to the squad before the end of the season with loans for us to push on and be successful." The team's legs will be saved a long coach journey to Plymouth, with the decision to fly to Devon on Saturday morning. Pearson believes a short flight is the smart way to travel. "It's about preparation. It's an opportunity for us to try something different, I think it's common sense that if we can do it we do. It's about what's best for us to try and get the right results. It's a results business and so we're going to try this to help us get the win."
goose2010 Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 when is the loan window open? or is it already open?
teblin Posted 19 February 2010 Posted 19 February 2010 when is the loan window open? or is it already open? Its already open but i think we are wating until after the 23rd of this month that would mean anyone signed on a 3 month loan would be able to play in the play off's should be make them.
davieG Posted 1 March 2010 Author Posted 1 March 2010 From the Merc Milan Mandaric has said he will help manager Nigel Pearson bring in the players who can make the difference in the race for the Premier League. The Leicester City owner said City have a fantastic opportunity to return to the top flight of English football and he is determined they should take it. Mandaric revealed they were unable to bring in more players during the January transfer window because the opportunities did not arise. But he said he would now help his manager bring in the loan signings who could make the difference in the run-in of the season. "We are looking at the opportunity to add support in the next couple of weeks," he said. "We will see what we can do, but we don't want to bring in anyone who is just another player because we have a very good squad who play well together. If we did bring someone in, as Nigel would say, it will be someone who can make the difference. "Nigel is one of the most sensible managers when it comes to recruiting players. He is very happy with the squad he has. He works very closely with them. But, if he did come to me and say 'Milan, this player will help us to make the difference', I will listen and give Nigel support with that. "We didn't really have any big opportunities in January. It is difficult to buy players for our league at that time because a lot of players who would make the difference will go to the Premier League. "Your best bet is to try to get a Premier League player for our league on a loan basis, pay a decent loan fee and a bigger salary. That is why you haven't seen too many players being bought in January for the Championship. I have been thinking about this (the opportunity for promotion) and I spoke to Nigel on Friday. I am not ignoring that. That is where a lot of people fail. "I remember Bristol City were up there a few years ago but why didn't they at that time make a push and really go for it? It is a lot less money to bring in two or three top players than go another year with additional losses. So we will see. "We are in the right position and there will be some moves."
Flynny Posted 1 March 2010 Posted 1 March 2010 The only things I can see making a big difference are: 1. A fantastic attacking right-back - Morrison is doing a more than adequate job there at the minute. 2. An incisive attacking midfielder who can create and score the odd goal. 3. A goal scoring forward who'll slot anywhere along our front 3. Can't really see us getting any of those.

As much as i don't want to accuse Mandaric of being tight (after putting 5mil into the club to stem losses), but does he not realise the extra cash for a couple of months wages (and perhaps a fee to a club) could really strengthen promotion credentials, and actually get the club playing in the premier league again and making a profit again?
davieG Posted 10 March 2010 Author Posted 10 March 2010 Or it could be a ply to keep any loan costs down to minimum by pleading poverty.
StanSP Posted 10 March 2010 Posted 10 March 2010 Apparently we're signing someone from Everton on loan with a view to a permanent deal. EDIT: I'm told it could be James Vaughan.
