thats for those who didnt see the tackle live and as they refused to replay it.

i have to say it does look to me like a 50/50 challenge thats gone awry. if you pause the video at 4 seconds you can see his legs gone onto and down on his leg snaping both bones clean. he feels really guilty and it was good to see him try to apologise and leave the pitch in tears, feeling actual remorse in my opinion. I hope shawcross can get over this and carry on playing.

and as for aaron ramsey, i hope him a speedy recovery and the best of luck in reviving his career after such a horrible injury. He will be sidelined for 12-18 months at the look of that.

opinions/thoughts?

I think you're right to call that a 50/50 challenge and it doesn't look clumsy or malicious, just incredibly unlucky.

Feel for Shawcross as he looked genuinely gutted when he was walking off the pitch and didn't argue about the red card for a second.

Very, very unfortunate and I hope that Ramsey recovers quickly. Looking far ahead if it is particularly serious, Wales will have a big void to fill in the early Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Absolutely horrendous injury, uncanny resemblence to Eduardo's and 2 years to the day or something like that? Shawcross looked visibly upset with himself which seemingly suggests it's a freak injury but it's a reckless challenge at best and doesn't get better the more you see it. Vermaelen and Fabregas were distraught and Sol was absolutely livid.

Hope Ramsey makes a full recovery from this and goes on to fulfil his undoubted potential, just hope it doesn't derail and ruin his career before it has taken off.

thing is everyone who is watching can see its 50/50. ref sends him off and hes in tears for obvious reasons yet sol HAS to go have a go at him after and shout at him. im sorry but hes got no right to do that in my opinion and is lucky to be on the pitch at the moment as he is a reserve now.

if everyone who was watching can see its 50-50 then why did the ref give a straight red?

he was watching too...

I honestly can only assume you've never, ever seen one of your mates, whom you both work and spend a lot of time with, severely injured to the point at which his entire career could be over (which, although hopefully unlikely, was a possibility at the time), then

Sol's standing within the Arsenal squad is irrelevant, some players react in the way that Vermaelen and Fabregas did, others react as Sol did. It's hardly as though he went up and twatted Shawcross, is it?

Anyway, Shawcross is NOT the victim in all of this, 50/50 and tears or not!

im not complaining about the red. i think the ref saw the injury and thought he best act accordingly towards it.

all im saying is sol may be passionate about it but he was trying to kick shawcross whilst he was down.

not saying anyones a victim etc.

Well by the looks of it, it was completely 50/50. Shawcross went in though with the intention of kicking the ball and because Ramsey was quicker to it, he got his leg and it just snapped.

It was horrendous to see it dangling there as he lay on the pitch... here's hoping he makes a full recovery.

HOW can you say snapping someones leg in half doesn't use excessive force?!

Excessive force is a red card

Wenger is an arrogant ****. Few due's one of his players got seriously injured, but his comments after the game on MOTD basically saying Sawcross did it with intent were unfounded.

Pullis on the other hand is pure class with what he said.

Hope Ramsey recovers, as he's got a great future in front of him.

Wenger is an idiot I really can't stand the bloke the things he says are arrogant, ignorant and offensive and I'm talking in general when anything goes against his team it's never down to and Arsenal error, and accident or just being outplayed. This is a horrible accident in my opinion yes the tackle was bad, it was late but in a contact sport sometimes things like this happen.

For Wenger to come out and attacking Shawcross for his character and insinuating that he had the intent to break his leg is out of order. I have seen tackles worse than that that result in no injury I have watched it a couple of times and while it seems clumsy his reaction confirms to me that there was no intent to do any damage, all the best to Ramsey in his recovery

I also notice that Wenger failed to see the challenge by Gallas on Mark Davies which was shockingly late and could easily have broken his leg or worse a few weeks ago, but I guess you can be selective in what you see when you are Arsene Wenger

Exactly Jay, exactly.

That was a horrible injury, though I didnt actually think unlike the Eduardo one, the challenge was that bad. He went in with the laces and it was just very unlucky.

Seeing his leg flopping was awful.

Stunning :appl:

Agree with every word. Hopefully Ramsey will bounce back quickly as he looks to have a bright future.

I feel Arsenal are targeted more than other teams because the way they play. I don't however think players go out and intentionally try and injure players like wenger said, although I do believe he retracted those statements afterwards so fair play too him for that. You have to understand in the heat of the moment with another player of his having a terrible injury things are said that later you regret.

As for the tackle itself no way did he mean to hurt Ramsey, he was too slow but surely he shouldn't have his feet off the ground?

Posted

Apparently Shawcross did Francis Jeffers' ankle liagments with a scruffy challenge a few years back. In that case he actually did SWFC a favour in getting his wages paid by insurance. :dunno:

I agree with Wenger, Arsenal are targeted. Maybe he was wrong to infer Shawcross meant to cause injury, but wouldn't your emotions be running high after previous injuries suffered by his players, what do people expect the man to say. If I was in Wenger's position I'd be absolutely furious at this. Anyway, whether there was malice or no malice isn't important, that kind of tackle holds no place within football.

Oh but I'm sure Shawcross's tears will make Ramsey and Arsenal feel a lot happier now, poor old Ryan.

Alan Davies had a bit of a rant on twitter about this, saying Shawcross's tears would win him a bafta. I could imagine everyone's cynicism if it was say Joey Barton's tackle but as Shawcross has never received a red card in his professional career, and after looking at the replay, Ramsey's leg was already in a hideous position when Shawcross's leg came in. Massive get well soon to Ramsey though, he has his youth on his side thankfully!
