Cobbo Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 There was a Newcastle scout at the match last night, we had a good chat with him on the tube (which was held up for ages due to a fire at Green Park grr). He was having a look at Palace's right back Clyne. Asked him about our players and he wasn't particularly impressed, not one good enough for the premiership he thought. Not enough pace. He had a look at Kingy at the weekend and due to his lack of pace and 70-80% of his passing going sideways or backwards, he would not want him. Dyer is 'brain dead' as he nicely put it.. Leon Best is certainly not good enough for the prem & is purely a signing to help get them up, despite his 3 year contract. He is not on a very large wage at all...I think we all kinda thought that about the Best signing anyways..
MrSpaM Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Fantastic result. Theirs definatly 'something' about us at the minit, if we keep playing like this that second place spot is still within reach. Keep believing, we can still do this the easy way.

Seing as we have some quite young players (Hobbs, Morrison, King, Fryatt, N'Guessan) they still have time to develop into potential Premier League players. Pace is not our great strength, but if pace were the deciding factor players like Bellion and Campbell would be Premier League stars...

He said that you have to have pace to be in the Premiership - he did not say you can purely have pace & be successful (ie. he stated Lloyd Dyer was 'brain dead'). I asked what he thought to Morrison and Hobbs, again, not particularly impressed.

Was this guy drinking cider out of a brown paper bag by any chance, because he appears to not have a clue what he's on about. If thats what they think of our players, i dread to think whats going to happen to their squad when they go up, the only thing they've got going for them a their strikers. Their captain (nicky buttmunch) is easily one of the worst players i've seen in this division.

Weve had a fair few of those scouting for us in the past
Samilktray Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Im sure if hes being paid to scout players for a big club like Newcastle, hes gonna know a fair bit.
Fosse Boy Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Interesting what that Newcastle scout thought. Agree with him about Dyer's style of play, but his unpredictability is his main asset. Reckon he'd trouble a few top flight defences if given the chance. Palace fans view on our support last night... Thought Leicester had a decent lad type following and their flare looked wicked from the Holmesdale looked a decent contingent; could see some lads at the back trying to get it going so fair play for that...ranked a lot better than most away supports, who these days seem happy to sit in total silence (sheff utd, derby, reading etc.)also had that fat celebrity Leicester fan from the footy documentary cnostantly looking over begging for attention - glad we didn't rise to it overall though seemed more switched on that most the dribblers that end up in the away end...
Shrenchel Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Im sure if hes being paid to scout players for a big club like Newcastle, hes gonna know a fair bit. The same scouting network that thought it was definitely a great idea to buy Titus Bramble for £5 million, Hugo Viana for £9 million, Jean-Alain Boumsong for £8 million, Marcelino for £5 million, Michael Owen for £16 million, Stephane Guivarc’h for £4 million, Luque for £10 million, Carl Cort for £7million, Andreas Andersson for £4 million?!?! For as long as I can remember, no matter who the mananager is, Newcastle have been monumentally fvcking up transfers and buying fermenting heaps of shit more than any other club in England. I know more about the delicacies of the menstruation cycle than that cvnt does about what makes a good footballer. I'm glad he's not coming round here waving his greasy stotties in our lads faces.
lou Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Im sure if hes being paid to scout players for a big club like Newcastle, hes gonna know a fair bit. Like the scout we had who got paid a lot of money to sign Jimmy Neilson, Sergio Hellings et al? He may well know a fair bit but he cant really judge on one game either Im not sayng our players are Prem standards either by the way, just playing devils advocate.
MrSpaM Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 I'm also pretty sure the 96 squad wouldnt exactly have been thought of as premiership standard either. As long as we've got players who play for the shirt thats all that matters. Hard team work, and a good squad ethic (something we seem to have an abundence of at the minit) gets you a long way, not money.
shen Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Well, not really. He said that you have to have pace to be in the Premiership - he did not say you can purely have pace & be successful (ie. he stated Lloyd Dyer was 'brain dead'). I asked what he thought to Morrison and Hobbs, again, not particularly impressed. My bad. I still don't agree with him though. Yes, pace is essential in the whole, but many players have gotten on despite a distinct lack of pace. Sheringham was never a fast player, even I could outsprint Sol Campbell at the moment and he's playing for a championship contender! They just have other attributes that make up for it. And we should know, we've had an abundance of sluggish players while in the Premier League and coped...

Pretty much sums it up for me too but you happened to have put it across better.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Was a good game for most of it, I honestly thought we would conceed a last minute goal like we often do when I seem to go . Glad we held on, we took the piss out of them with our passing when we went one up, was awesome. Fans were ok, liked the flare though. I think the lino deserves credit for spotting the incedent with Davis as I and alot of City fans as it seems completely missed it, I knew something happenned as we were attacking and Waghorn (though I honestly thought it was morrisson) was just walking along holding his head. Fair play to the ref for being willing to change his mind and listen to the lino. I'm not sure if we would've won if it was 11v11 but heyho 3 points and 4th in the league what more can you ask for! EEE I E I E I O
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Good result. let's keep our feet on the ground.

The Doctor Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 good result paticularly since they're only down at the bottom due to that 10 point deduction. Anyone have any clue what happened for the red card though? Pretty hard to work out what was going on when stringer seem to spend the majority of the match saying "You'll never miss a kick of a city game on BBC RL" and the rest of the time talking about hair dye and mcdonalds.

Apparently he was done for punching Morro, I missed it cos I was busy watching whoever was on the ball at the time

From what you've said it sounds like he was there to scout a few Leicester players. No scout is going to be open and give you information like that.
CosbehFox Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Im sure if hes being paid to scout players for a big club like Newcastle, hes gonna know a fair bit. Well their head scout signed a player on the evidence of a youtube video last season.
lcfc_jme Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 First half was pretty dull to be honest, looked semi-threatening in the second before we scored and then fuck knows.
