Babylon Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Disappointing result, but I think the main positive was McGiven's performance. I thought our much vilified loanee looked very good up until the point that he got clattered, immediately after which he gave the ball away a few times and let players past him. He never really got back into the game. I think people are being overly harsh. I'm not shy of saying when someone has been shit (he's been on the end of it enough), but he really wasn't as bad as people are making out.
CosbehFox Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 To be honest, I think I would if Leicester had just come back from 2 goals down, ecspecially in a local derby. Wasn't my point though - because of Cardiff's result, the point for Coventry was akin to winning on the final day of the season when you are already relegated.

I get the feeling the lad will never be able to get it right for our club, which is a shame.

I get the feeling the lad will never be able to get it right for our club, which is a shame. He lacks positional sense....as some have said, a centre-back in a full-back position? I think it's over eager attitude which catches him out as opposed to ability (though he does require an angle to pass a ball).
Sods Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Fair play to them they deserved something in the second half, if it was the other way round we would be thrilled with our players, but the first half hour from us was fantastic. In the long run this sort of result might help us out, we thought the game was over and backed off which was silly.
Edmund Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 He lacks positional sense....as some have said, a centre-back in a full-back position? I think it's over eager attitude which catches him out as opposed to ability (though he does require an angle to pass a ball). The fact is when we were playing well he played the best I've ever seen him play in a city shirt. When he played badly the whole team was playing badly yet he's picked out as the one to blame Yes he made a few mistakes but so did the majority of the other players. The only difference is everyone is picking out every simple mistake he makes. For example Solano played some lovely passes but he also made some awful over weighted passes and gave the ball away on a couple of occasions which has not been mentioned by anyone, yet he is remembered for only the good bits whereas McGiveren gets the opposite treatment. Yes Solano saved a certain goal but McGivern played a pivotal role in the build up which lead to our goal but it goes unmentioned. I will even go as far as saying that McGivern looked a quality attacking full back in the first half. Also I don't understand all this nonsense about positional sense when it's obvious he's being encouraged to push up.

I think it's over eager attitude which catches him out as opposed to ability (though he does require an angle to pass a ball). Including myself. That's why I would prefer to give him a bit of leeway, not get on his back. He reminds me of Stearman, in some respects. Yet whilst it was impossible to point out any of his flaws, McGivern's need to be posted on here in size 78 font, and flashing letters. I also fail to see how he can be blamed for us conceding, when we weren't closing down and winning the ball in other areas of the pitch. Again, Wellens and Oakley didn't seem to close down, and collectively the team started to defend further and further back into our own half. As for defending set pieces, why have we resorted to having everyone back? I hate this, hate it with a passion. Keep someone up front. It gives us an outlet, and therefore stops us being put under pressure before we've even cleared the ball, and it takes at least one, if not two, players out of the opposition attack. To me it's a no brainer.
SeCrEt FoX Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Was quite gutted with the result but i was so proud of the lads in the first half with their performance especially with it being shown on national TV . I thought Mcgivern had a great game pulled his socks up and got stuck in to the challenges, OK may be not so good in second half but who was? And a still think we need a a better leader and player than oakley just with a bit more enthusiasm and better vision and passing that can lift the team . There are plenty of players that could do the job. 4th in table 8 points clear we could only dream of that beginning of season now wembley seems to be a reality . c'mon city Who would you buy ??
SeCrEt FoX Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Another thing thats been bugging me this season is when we have defended a corner or an attack we hoof up field (which am not complaining ) and stay on the edge of the 18 (best part of the second half yesterday) we should push out as a unit as soon as its been cleared of danger that way it would ease the pressure from their attack, make their players have to push up or they will be offside and limit them to long shots to keep the pressure going.

Why not? Kisnorbo was lambasted when he played in midfield and hailed once he was moved to his rightful position in defense
Guest Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Why not? Kisnorbo was lambasted when he played in midfield and hailed once he was moved to his rightful position in defense I doubt he'll be here long enough, and I don't think he'll play in his rightful position for us, not unless it's an emergency.
CosbehFox Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Also I don't understand all this nonsense about positional sense when it's obvious he's being encouraged to push up. He kept getting dragged to centre of the pitch, not so much a case of being too far forward.
Tommeh Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 I'm sorry but I find it ridiculous people ridiculing cov for celebrating a point, they came from 2 down to grab a point at a ground they always loose against a team many consider fierce rivals. Hard to forget it was only last season where we where strolling out of the Mk gaff like we were top of the prem and rolling around on the terraces at Hereford after a Lloyd goal. You score you celebrate, often fall over, you get a positive result you celebrate you sing outside etc. It happens, it's the proper way to react and express joy. I actually remember last season a whole host of us lot locating C-man after Mk dons and hosting a pile on outside the ground this after a point against a club who shouldn't even exist! It seems some people are desperatly looking for a new way to tear into Cov, give up they had a good day they got a better result than we did. I can list 10 clubs I despise until cov get a mention, there's naff all rivarly there and the desire to put down everything they do is cringewothy as fu ck.
C-man Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Fair play to them they deserved something in the second half, if it was the other way round we would be thrilled with our players, but the first half hour from us was fantastic. In the long run this sort of result might help us out, we thought the game was over and backed off which was silly. Yeah that's a fair point. Can't see Pearson letting it happen again any time soon. First time since Watford we've thrown away a two-goal lead. Twice in 37 games isn't too bad. Think it happened twice last season too (Brighton and Swindon).

I'd agree with this. I have nticed that in recent weeks we let the other teams push us really deep instead of pushing forward and playing them offside. This made it a whole lot easier for Sheff Wed as they had Clarke to win the ball and a fast winger to pass it out to.

Unit Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Would that be you then? nah we only had a few before didn't we? I stayed at the pub after far too long though
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Recorded the game. Just watched it back. Our goal was clearly in as proved by the photo. Gunnarsson is a dirty ****, Waghorn was well unlucky when he missed it by about a mm, There goal was offside, Our team done enough for me to show that we are a very good side, Ok we let 2 in but we're still lookin a side hard to beat and play some lovely stuff. McGivern did alrite considering Im not a fan. Clingan got the better of Wellens and Oakley which was dissapointing. I think we really need to get behind the boys now. The funniest moments. There shit buses and the ****** banging on the windows like retards, Them singing Fight, Fight, wherever you may be, we are the boys from coventry. Ironic as they took a hell of a beating from B.s 2 years ago. The newish chant from L1 was good
shen Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 I doubt he'll be here long enough, and I don't think he'll play in his rightful position for us, not unless it's an emergency. You never know, Pearson might be tempted to bring him in. After all, he's the one who's judged him good enough to be playing at left back
MC Prussian Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 You never know, Pearson might be tempted to bring him in. After all, he's the one who's judged him good enough to be playing at left back Even a manager like Pearson, who's had a very good eye for signings and loan deals so far, can be wrong at times. This is probably sounding a bit harsh, but I'm starting to think McGivern was such a mistake. The only reasonable explanation that I have is that Pearson wants McGivern play on the left flank in order to gain some experience and to turn him into a more versatile defender (ahem). I mean, McGivern is actually a proper full-back (although I have yet to see him play in that position). I just hope McGivern finds the turn sooner than later and makes the best out of it. He wasn't entirely shit on Sunday, but the worst Leicester player on the pitch by a mile and he needs to work a lot harder on his positioning, defending (which is mostly really bad), tackling and his awful distribution. Again, without wanting to sound too mean, but you'd expect a Manchester City loanee to show up with at least a bit of skill.
Guest Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 Even Brown thought it was oddly quiet on Sunday Bluearmy Leicester City defender Wayne Brown has urged the Blue Army to pump up the volume and roar their team towards the play-offs.Having recovered from an injury, Brown was on the substitutes' bench for the Coventry game on Sunday, from where he was surprised how quiet the home fans were inside the Walkers Stadium, even when City were 2-0 ahead. Brown stressed he was not criticising City fans and hailed their support as tremendous this season. But he called for them to get right behind Nigel Pearson's men as they push to cement their place in the play-offs. City are on home soil again tomorrow when Reading are the visitors and Brown is hoping the Blue Army will be in full voice. "The fans have been tremendous all season. I am not having a pop at them in any way, shape or form, but I was a little bit surprised with them," he said. "When you are on the pitch you don't notice it as much. Sitting on the bench, we were 2-0 up against one of our local rivals in Coventry and it was very, very quiet. I was thinking 'hold on, we are at home against our local rivals and we are two up, we need you to get behind us so we can kick on.' "Coventry were struggling at that time and I feel if only we had been noisier. "We need that little bit more atmosphere-wise from them. But that will come, and the sun is out now, so maybe they can start to enjoy the little run we are on more."
Guest Mee-9 Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 Even Brown thought it was oddly quiet on Sunday Bluearmy Quiet? He'll experience quiet at tomorrow nights match.
