Ozwin Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Coventry pressured us all second half, didn't give us time to think and it resulted in us hoofing it. They put about 4 strikers on too, which didn't exactly help us. Saying that we should have exploited the space in the middle of the park. It pains me to say they deserved it, but they were hardly great. Should have been over by half time and I think the players believed it was.
Fox You Forest Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Classic game of two halves, excellent first half, very average second half. Still it's a point and back to fourth. I thought some of the players looked tired in the second half, particularly Waghorn and Dyer - I was surprised the former wasn't substituted earlier than he was I thought everyone bar Hobbs, Morrison and subs looked very leggy in the last twenty minutes or so, reckon their might be a few changes Wednesday.
Darkzzz_ Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 After digesting it, I am not that annoyed. Yes we were 2-0 up and allowed them back into the game but we will put it behind us and grab the 3 points on Wednesday against Reading. Coventry fans dancing outside the walkers afterwards showing us how much they don't care really made me smile, then again any excuse to hang around our wonderful stadium a lot longer than having to go back to Coventry.
Daggers Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 We were by far the better footballing team in the 1st half and they were the stronger team in the 2nd - simple. I'd ask 'how many times have we adopted that ridiculous approach to shutting up shop?' but I'm worried about making you do any more counting...
Ozwin Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 You'd have thought Coventry had won the league with that result from their reaction at the end. Right bunch of weird lookers too, walked past the escorted lot on my way to Morissons and they're the epitome of scum.
Dylan Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Always disappointing not to take 3 points when you take a 2 goal lead, but the main thing is we never lost. I had a similar view to the linesman, sitting in B3, and i honestly thought our 2nd had past the line, and so did the people i went with. Not seen the highlights, but have been texted that it wasn't past, but ill make my mind up once I see. Their 2nd was clearly off for me, at least 2-3 players off. Again not seen highlights, but been texted it was offside. Still, a draw against a form side in the Championship isn't bad. Most people would've taken 4 points from our last 2 games. I think our 1st half performance was class. I always thought a 3rd goal was needed because we've got a habit of conceding leads. We should've continued to push for the 3rd after the break, but we just sat back playing longballs- which i thought was stupid as we gained a 2 goal lead by playing fantastic football. I think our changes were way too late- they were all over us and changes were needed. Personally, I would've brought Nguessan on for Dyer- he looked really tired, and Nguessan has that aerial advantage. I think Solano played brilliant again, and Gallagher put a couple of brilliant floated crosses in but no-one attacked them. I thought McGivern tried hard, but imo he's not good enough. He backed off them too much, and just didn't look like a left-back. I think with Bruno at LB we would've looked more comfortable, and hopefully he's back for Wednesday (anyone have any news on his injury?). Also, Wellens looked decent, but started to slack towards the end. Reading on wednesday will be tough. They've won 8 out of their last 10 league games, but drew at the weekend to Boro, so hopefully they're starting to hit bad form again. I think we're capable of beating anyone in this division, and the players will be looking for a result after today. 3 points then, and today will be forgotten. Same team line-up for me, except Bruno back in if he's fit. Hopefully i don't jinx city, but with an 8 point cushion, with 9 to go, I think we should comfortably make the playoffs, but automatic prom is just way too off for us, so we need to keep getting results and hit form for the playoffs.
richardsfoxes Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Gutted, dont know what more to say other than wtf happend second half. This is the faults i noticed anyway, everytime we won the ball in the air when they played long balls from freekicks/corners, they would have Sam Cling sumin, waiting outside the box, about 25 yards from there, Everytime he would get it back in, i dont understands pearsons logic behind having dyer and waghorn up that far when we've clearly been under pressure for 25 mins. Yeah, they can counter attack fast but it leaves a massive gap for clingham who was there best player by far to knocks balls around. other than that the first half performance was fantastic. Pressures now on us at Reading on weds, cya there.
JoeyB Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 I thought first half there was only going to be one winner, we played lovely passing football and with speed to using both sides of the pitch to our advantage, when Gallagher got crocked i don't think he recovered from that at all during the game, he didn't look patch of what he did before his injury! second half, we didn't turn up and we couldn't keep possession at all, as soon as we had it we hoofed it up the pitch and lost the ball again which was inviting pressure on us throughout the second half and we just didn't look up for it at all. I thought Person for once was to slow with his subs, Dyer and Gallagher looked tired throughout the second half so Adams and NGuessan would have been a good bet to put them on and let them track forward and back give a bit more protection to our defence and give us more of an outlet. but to be honest i still think that there second goal they had 3/4 players offside but i'm going to reserve proper judgement untill i have seen the replay but to me it feels like its 2 points dropped, rather than 1 point gained. Best thing now is to bring on Wednesday and let us bounce back nice and strong with a good win hopefully!
mancunianfox Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Surprised by some of the comments. I don't think the second half had anything to do with the players being disinterested or Pearson changing the tactics at half time. I think you are overlooking the changes made in the way Cov played. They closed us down high up the pitch, kept the ball in the air, got stuck in and stopped us from playing our passing game. We ended up being sucked into their style as their pressure resulted in our defenders having to get rid of it. I thought Coleman did really well to get Cov going second half especially after how bad they were in the first and they did work hard to earn their point. It was really disappointing to have thrown away all of our good work but its not the end of the world. I tell you what though, I wouldn't want to watch Coventry every week. We might have got bullied out the win but at least we get to watch some nice football every now and again. Coventry are a really ugly side.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Disappointing, should of taken all 3 points. Reminded me of the Watford game early in the season, when we blew the 2 goal lead then. Bad idea bringing Kermorgant and Howard on, there negative 'hoof' style of play killed the game off. Infact it seems as if we played Cov's style of play in the second half. Not impressed with Coventry. Not impressed with the boo boys and ****** that sat behind me.
davieG Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 I'd ask 'how many times have we adopted that ridiculous approach to shutting up shop?' but I'm worried about making you do any more counting... My counting days are over. I don't think our shutting up shop was intentional, I just think that when teams close us down with a tough physical approach we have no answers and can't cope, it's when we need a tough tackling midfielder in there. The guy that laid out McGivern, I thought there was a fair degree of intent in that, he was never going to get his head to the ball and just went straight to McGivern's face.
FoxyPV Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 I'm just really disappointed with our second half display and especially the defending for the second goal. A point's a point at the end of the day and at least we didn't lose
Joe. Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 It will be on bbc iplayer Will it? I'll hold you to that one!
Guest Mee-9 Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Found Gunnarson's (Or whoever he is) Rory Delap impression pretty hilarious.

Having said that, I don't think our substitutions particularly aided us either.

Right bunch of weird lookers too, walked past the escorted lot on my way to Morissons and they're the epitome of scum. My exact words to my cousin who lives in Cov. Shows their low ambition, a draw v us is magnificent to them
Maybes Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 2-2. Meh. Fair result really and two very different halves. Credit to Coventry they came out second half and gave it a real good go and earned their point. It did make me chuckle how much their away following were loving it - like they had just won a cup final - I suppose they do see us a superior club. Chants of 2 nil up and you fooked it up are indeed correct, however who is 4th in the league? Cheers then. Blue Army!!
Salieri Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Found Gunnarson's (Or whoever he is) Rory Delap impression pretty hilarious. Almost as hilarious as his mullet.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 I thought the chanting of 'you might as well go home' after 3 minutes and 1 goal was ever so slightly premature
C-man Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 EASY EASY EASY. Or not. <_< Was surprised to see so many in L1 giving it the gay arm gesture. To be fair to the Cov lot, they all stood and got behind their team. 'Cup final' or no 'cup final' they outsung us and their celebrations looked epic.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Shocking second half display. Once again as we have all seen so many times we thought the game was dead and as soon as we scored the 2nd we started fooking around with the ball trying to look clever. McGivern is completely usless. Cant tackle, cant stay in position and certainly cant pass or cross. NP got the subs all wrong. Gallagher did nothing and needed to come off with the game crying out for N'Guessan and his muscle. But he decides on a useless Frenchmen who does nothing what so ever. And why bring Howard on with mins to go? He was needed on 70 mins but no we kill all pace up fronty and start hitting it long to him only for fouls to be given against him. Thoroughly pissed off, thank god we got a point in the end, we need to beat Reading to get this result out the way.
Dylan Posted 21 March 2010 Posted 21 March 2010 Was having a look at the cost of points because of late goals this season, and actually we've gained more points because of them. These are the games where goals after the 80th minute have affected the result: Watford (A)- 80th Min 2-3 ... FT- 3-3... 1 point gained. Middlesboro (A)- 80th Min 0-0.... FT 1-0... 2 points gained. Plymouth (H)- 80th Min 0-0... FT 1-0... 2 points gained. Scunny (A) 80th Min 1-0... FT 1-1... 2 points dropped. Coventry (H) 80th Min 2-1... FT 2-2... 2 points dropped. = 1 point gained (although depends on your interpretation of Watford (A) since we were winning 2-0 at one stage.
