Finnegan Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Seriously. I've only seen the first half of the first episode but simply going as far as he has with no experience and a couple of weeks training is just stunningly inspirational. Absolutely mental. It's a shame that it'll really largely get passed off as entertainment because from an athletic point of view I honestly find it genuinely staggering.
lou Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Ive always loved Eddie Izzard, his comedy and his honesty. Hes now reached God-like status in my mind. Ive watched all the programmes about his run and I still cannot get my head around how he did this. The absolute agony he was in for most of this epic run was just unreal. He never even considered stopping and even forged friendships with "ordinary" people on the way! A pure and incredible example of the human spirit at its best. Knighthood please! How anyone on Sport relief will ever top this acheivement is difficult to see?

FoxyPV Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 We need to start an internet campaign to get him knighted!! He was JUST the funniest guy on the planet before this, NOW he's a legend

That is insane, what a nutter, but fantastic work. Brilliant.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Absolute legend. Was thinking of starting a thread on this myself and the other things that celebs had done for sport relief, but what Eddie has done knocks all the others into a cocked hat. Genius comedian - great bloke. :chant: :chant:
Monk Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Today I am in pain from running ONE HALF marathon yesterday. The thought of what Izzard achieved is staggering, incredible. Never in a million years could I do that.
Daggers Posted 22 March 2010 Author Posted 22 March 2010 Anyone care to explain? Go watch it on iPlayer I need to achieve more with my life.
SeCrEt FoX Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Never really been a fan of izzard until i watched an episode of his charity marathons . great achievement , nice bloke it must of killed his knees
Ozwin Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 I was knackered after watching that documentary on it. Really inspiring, makes you think anything is possible if you really want to achieve it.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 It's unbelievable, particularly as he trained for just two weeks or something. I wouldn't have thought it was even possible. Judging by the state he's in even relatively early on, he must be mega-robust psychologically. I just cannot comprehend being able to push yourself like that. I liked the bit near the start where he was keeping himself going by eating ice creams on the way
Daggers Posted 22 March 2010 Author Posted 22 March 2010 I liked the bit near the start where he was keeping himself going by eating ice creams on the way The message I got was that if you stop often enough and drink beer you can do anything.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 That's just stupid. If you want to get anywhere in life, it's all about the amount of ice cream you eat

MC Prussian Posted 22 March 2010 Posted 22 March 2010 Heard about his achievements last fall and recently recollected those efforts whilst he was presented during the Sports Relief show. I mean, I do run on a regular basis, yet fail to understand how it is humanly possible to run such a distance in such a short amount of time WITHOUT ANY PROPER TRAINING. Stunned and in awe. Izzard deserves a medal. Mabye they'll honour him at the 2012 Olympics?

Izzard deserves a medal. Mabye they'll honour him at the 2012 Olympics? I ran 3 marathons in 3 days along the Jurassic Coast from Lyme Regis to Swanage....... Day 3 was interesting. I got out the bus and could barely walk and just started running - quite a sight (I remember laughing to myself, "imagine if this were the London marathon and I rolled up to the start line in this condition" ...and this course was up and down cliffs.) I reckon if my life had depended on it I could have done a few more, though the pain on the last day was fairly gruelling..... Could I have run 40? Could I **** as like. Amazing achievement.
Daggers Posted 22 March 2010 Author Posted 22 March 2010 Jade, the Queen of Tarts, did 200m after a curry - imagine what she could have achieved after a 99 and one of those milky lollipops.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 Having now watched episode 3 on Sky+ it became apparent that he ran through Leicester. Why was there no news of this before the event in the local media. Every other town he had people out supporting him, but Leicester... pah! Since he ran to Northampton from here I assume he went down Welford Road which means he passed within a couple hundred yards of my home. Crappy RL and Mockery

No mention of it anywhere - would have loved to have turned out to see him
Trav Le Bleu Posted 23 March 2010 Posted 23 March 2010 See, I knew he went down Welford road! Was that you who took the video Babs or just one you found on YouFace?
