It's All So Quiet...

Apparently Jobber's getting a new drum next season, a smaller one that will allow him to play more songs, which could be a boost. I honestly think ours will end up brilliant one day, L1 is getting more fans rapidly, and K1 will also become a good part of that atmosphere soon I reckon.

I think Brown has a very good point and I'm not going to criticise him for it to be honest.

Bristol City and Palace are two clubs who have recently shown us how to support a team in their own gaff.

It is worth noting however that both are in incredibly atmsopheric stands/ grounds and neither have the away support to boot.

In the home matches I've made this season (about half although not on sunday) I honestly think it's been ok in most games and excellent against Newcastle and Forest and this is in the Kop. Atmsophere has certainly gone up at home this season however our away support is so far from the league 1 tour it really hurts.

Palace not much so, they had a little group of about 50 who stood and sang and bounced, the rest were all absolutely awful. Bristol however I agree, their home support was superb.

Blackpool are another side I thought were good at home to us, although they were nothing without the drum (who is probably the best one I've heard). Away from home, we have been shocking vocally. I think the numbers have generally been very good, but the standing and the noise has gone, surely its not too much to ask?

I blame it on the bbc for using lee jobbers drum stand, therefore lee having to play the drum from the bottom of the stand. I think after the 1st goal he left the drum where it was and headed back up th his muckers.

Prior to the cov game i think the noise has been very good especially with the drum in use it seems to really get L1 then the rest of the ground going

Yes thats true,i sit in j block and when we went 2-0 up it just went deathly quiet and it stopped like that, there was the odd chant but also the kop were unusually quiet aswell.

:dunno:

Nah seriously mate Palace were very impressive for me and your 50 was more like 400 from where I stood. The rest of the ground was silent though I have to agree.

It's tragic how much better we were on the road last season. Alot of goons who probably did only Peterborough and mk dons last season have started going more in my opinion and many who liked the old £10 ticket and a friendly piss up in a small town have jacked them in as we returned to the generic away grounds of the 5 years previous. The best comparison is probably s****horpe, last season we were brilliant, start to finish. Everyone stood behind the goal and down the side and Kings winner capped a great day. This season very quiet, many behind the goal sat we didn't create much noise and it's they who bag in the last few minutes.

Just shows that the players notice the atmosphere and understandably feed off it.

Well FFS let's give it to em'.

God knows we haven't had too much to shout about over the past few years and now that we finally do, it seems a bit lack lustre, although i'm sure fans try to get things going in vain.

I know about 400 of them stood, but I mean about 50 made any noise whatsoever. The back 350 had no choice but to stand because the loud 50 were at the front with the drum. I don't get it, I really don't, I think a lot of our proper, vocal fans have been priced out this season, thats my theory anyway, we never used to sit as often as we do, even when we were struggling.

S****horpe is a superb example, and I have first hand experience of it; Last year, I was row B, and stood all game with kids behind me (who stood on chairs), this year I was back but one and had to sit, because we had some happy clapping disabled behind us who whenever we get a corner shouts "OO OO OO OO OO", cringeworthy as fuck in my opinion, has anyone else heard this lad?

In fairness, from where I was the standing looked decent at Wednesday and at Palace, and I'm pretty sure it should be good at Derby on Saturday as well.

Sickener really, I thought the standing at the last two was good but the noise could have been better.

When you're on the back foot for the whole 2nd half there's not a lot to get vocal about.

This is pretty much how I feel about it too... in the first half, when chants were being sung, I was really getting into it and singing my socks off, however in the second half, I don't think I could have sung for the fact that I had my head in my hands or was biting my nails off the whole half!

YES! And in agreement with the previous post, we haven't had anything to sing about in previous years and now we do, we seem to be fairly muted. Let's give it some and push the team on! :D:scarf:

The stand was built for television camera's, and Jobber's been able to use it on untelevised games. It's hardly as if the BBC have swooped in and kicked Jobber off his perch.

I think its quite refreshing to hear one of the players comment honestly about the atmosphere. I'm fed up of reading comments on the OS or seeing interviews on the regional news by the management team/players saying the support was 'incredible' or the fans were 'fantastic' because they feel obliged to and don't want to rock the boat or say anything mildly controversial. Before/after every match whichever player the OS choose to interview about the previous or forthcoming game always seem to thank our 'fantastic' support regardless of how many turned up & how vocal we were. I'm fairly confident that if 1 man & his dog(which wouldn't have been allowed in anyway) had turned up to the Cov match, the majority of the players/management at the club would still have come out & said the same old bollocks. To sum up, well done Big Wayne for having an opinion.

We really shouldn't need a drum to get support going for our third biggest local derby of the season. We shouldn't need a drum full stop for that matter....

I was in K and I thought it was pretty good in the first half but it's always the same just after half time, dozens of people are still coming back to their seats with two or three minutes gone in the second half. Listening back to it on iPlayer the atmosphere doesn't come across that well but it's acoustics as much as anything. I've said it before, if the away fans were moved next to SK1 - they never will be I know - there'd be the Kop on one side and the East Stand (what is L1 now) on the other side. It'd help massively.

The suits don't want an atmosphere though, so it's a dead debate.

No - it's a topic which has been done to death on here, and the logistical reasons for not moving the away fans are pretty clear to understand.

Thought the kop - well, SK3 at least - was better last night, made some noise for the full 90, if not for the full 92 for obvious reasons. Quite a few people standing too, even in the centre of the back few rows as well as in each corner. The other positive for me was that each time a few chavs started having a go at McGivern during the game there was a response from most of the people around me to chant or sing positively for the team, and thus drown them out. OTOH, the chavs chanting for Berner following one early mistake by McGivern was one of the most cringeworthy moments I've had this season.

Completely agree with this. It was just about the first time he touched the ball as well. I'd imagine the lad's confidence is pretty low at the mo & chanting like that won't help. Doesn't achieve anything in my opinion. It's not like Berner's going to suddenly spring off the treatment table & back into the side because a few people want to chant his name when McGivern makes a mistake...

I sat in the West stand yesterday , other end from the kop cause i went with my dad and he cant stand for a full game

and although i'm a pretty big L1 head i have to say i was suprised by how much you can hear the kop

If only ALL those singers in the kop who want to sing and stand moved to L1, the ground could have a decent atmopshere
