Lineker's Left Foot Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Over the last three games if we really review it, we've been rather unlucky:- Reading match : probably deserved a draw and a dubious penalty. Derby match : apart from a freaky goal, should have been a draw. Cardiff match : Again a draw or even a win, if accounting for the dubious officiating. I personally believe luck will swing our way now and I can't see us losing FOUR on the run. Get the Baggies out of the way, then we do need some big points - poss. 7 out of 9 against QPR, Peterborough and Watford and all will be forgiven.
calum_lcfc Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Completely agree mate, even if we did loose four on the bounce I won't get too worried because I know we are capable of beating QPR, Boro and Watford so we shoudl expect 7 points from them and by then other teams will have lost or dropped points leaving us a 4/5 gap with 2 games to go happy times!! Its if we loose to them 3 thats when you worry
Babylon Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Agreed, whilst on paper the results say D - L - L - L. They could easily have been W - D - D - D. There is no need to panic, especially as the chasing pack are constantly dropping points. The only team I fear are Reading as they can't stop winning at the moment.
purpleronnie Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Maybe, could see it another way, silly attempt of a tackle by nobby cost us a point, stupid mistake by the goalie cost us another, and then theres poor play and tactics in the 2nd half against coventry cost us 3 points. Maybe last night a poor decision by the official cost us a point...but you tend to forget the decisions that went our way during the season. Luck? Nah!
Sir Fynwy Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 We have a shocking defence at present and strikers that hardly look like scoring, we may have had a bit of bad luck but a thin squad and poor tactics can also explain our current situation. We will lose to the best team in the division on friday so must hope our form picks up after that if we want the season to extend past 2nd May.
marbelladave Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 It is luck, of a kind. As I have said elsewhere we are not playing significantly worse then we were earlier in the season but the things that effect the result in tight games are now going against us rather than for us. As was said above we could easily have had 3 draws rather than 3 losses and earlier in the season when we were playing with a greater level of confidence they probably would have been.
MC Prussian Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 I'm still undecided whether it's down to lack of luck or lack of ability why we're currently on such a bad run. From my own personal viewing experience, I'd tend to the latter explanation. But then again, it is said to be a good thing to regain your form shortly before the end of the season (and with the possibility of competing in the playoffs). So - there's hope.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 31 March 2010 Author Posted 31 March 2010 Knowing us we'll win or draw at the Baggies IMO

I don't think anyone is saying it's just down to luck really. We obviously haven't been on top form, but even playing half as well as we can we have mostly matched the teams we've played and have been unlucky to not come away with a few more points.
AyewJoking Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 As long as the players havent lost belief we can still get the results to confirm play-offication.
marbelladave Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 As long as the players havent lost belief we can still get the results to confirm play-offication. Actually I think the players have lost a bit of belief and that, to me, is the problem!.. Earlier this season we were buoyed up by our promotion success and were very confident. This allowed us to get results even when we did not play all that well but now that the bounce has gone it is just not happening for us. We need a good performance and we need it soon!
Rocket-Ron Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Perhaps a bit of luck has got us where we are in the first place. Whatever position we end up this year, this has been one hell of a season for us. And I would like to thank all playing and coaching staff for what has been a very enjoyable season up the city
Guest Mee-9 Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 You could say the last 4 games. With the Coventry offside goal, but then again, we we're lucky.
samjohnson Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 I have to admit... Reading are the last minute sprint runners, there's always one team that does it (I believe we were in 1995, correct me if im wrong ) And if you look at the main Play-off rivals who are currently sniffing what we had for dinner 3 days ago, Blackpool... Theyve got some seriously big games coming up that they could slip up in. A point out of West Brom would please me...
CosbehFox Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Personally feel Coventry decisions were levelled out and the Reading penalty was defo a peno. However, Saturday we had a freak goal against us and last night, they were unlucky. As people said confidence is the problem and it's none more so evident in Hobbs and Morrison who have played like lions all season but have made the odd mistake recently.

From my own personal viewing experience, I'd tend to the latter explanation. , 3 games lost and suddenly it's all down to lack of ability. What a strange thing to say, we're in the play-offs because of the player's ability. I don't understand why everyone is so uptight. Losing is crap but no need to throw the toys out of the pram, we're in a bad moment but this is a 46 game season, it happens to every single team in the league, with in fact most of the other teams suffering more than us. I agree with the topic starter, luck has played a major role in this bad run. We've put in some poor performances but luck has been against us massively.
ta-fc Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 If i had to break it down i'd honestly say its a combinaion of luck and confidence.... Lets be honest the bulk of this squad UNDER NP arn't used to losing... Good teams can win a streak of games, great squads come back from adversity with big win..... ROLL ON FRIDAY!
Smudge Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Seems to me that the left back position is the the open back door right now; until we fix that issue we are are vulnerable and unlikely to do much better.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 Agreed, whilst on paper the results say D - L - L - L. They could easily have been W - D - D - D. Though Blackpool would be more embarrassing!
Craig Posted 31 March 2010 Posted 31 March 2010 If the table finished on current form, we'd finish 8th... Newcastle 97 West Brom 95 Forest 79 Cardiff 78 Reading 70 Swansea 68 Blackpool 67 Leicester 67 Doncaster 66 Middlesborough 61 Sheffield United 60 But we've got a much better run of games than we've had previous six games, and a much better run in than any of the other sides. We'll be fine.
