unreachable Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Stop being such a little girl. It's just that Lisa had said that there already had been three threads already (which i hadn't read through) that I thought she would know. I didn't think that my post would attract an aggressive reply. I was hoping for some factual base to Waghorn's contractual position. Do you know the position Nick?
leftsideoverhere Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Try the Sunderland website... Waghorn signs pro deal, Feb 2008 2 and a half year, expires August 2010.
leftsideoverhere Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 It's just that Lisa had said that there already had been three threads already (which i hadn't read through) You thought Lisa would know because there had been threads on here? I know you're new and everything, but reading threads on FT doesn't usually make us particularly well-informed as to the facts in any given situation. I reckon anyone who'd read the threads could probably tell you how much some people are salivating over Waggy's performances but not much more. Sorry.

I reckon anyone who'd read the threads could probably tell you how much some people are salivating over Waggy's performances but not much more. Sorry. Thanks for your two posts. I just find it a bit frustrating not being able to find facts when a lot of posters start forming views and opinions when they don't know the facts first. I'm grateful to you for taking the trouble to reply to me.
The Padster Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Bruce claims they won’t be the only kids pushing for regular football next season, tipping Academy products Martyn Waghorn and Jack Colbeck to follow in their footsteps. Waghorn has scored 11 goals on loan at Leicester while Colbeck has been a virtual ever-present at Roy Keane’s Ipswich. Bruce said: “We’ve had rave reviews about both of them and the two clubs would like to make the deals permanent, but they will be coming back here. From the Star.
Lillehamring Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 bruce can say that waghorn will be back with sunderland, but if he's out of contract in august and waghorn wants to leave, i can't see that bruce has much say in it
Foxhateram Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 bruce can say that waghorn will be back with sunderland, but if he's out of contract in august and waghorn wants to leave, i can't see that bruce has much say in it Sounds to me like Bruce is trying to talk up the price of both these players. Then again don't Prem teams have to include a certain amount of English talent in there sqauds within the next few seasons maybe Bruce is looking to that. As others have already said, the only way we are getting him is if he asks for a transfer sadly.
AmericanScott Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Just found this, sorry if it has already been posted, not alot new really but, Sunderland attacker Martyn Waghorn won't rule out staying with Leicester City. Waghorn has been impressive during his loan at Walkers stadium. “I’ve been asked by Leicester fans all season if I’ll be staying,” he said. “I love it at Leicester but we will have to wait and see what happens in the summer. “I haven’t spoken to Steve Bruce about the situation, we will just have to wait and see what happens.” guess it's not just me then. I think the guy wants to go back and try to break into the Sunderland team next season. He just doesn't want us to turn on him so he's watching what he says. There's a lot of kids with "Waghorn" on the back of their City shirts this season. I doubt many up in Sunderland [will] do that.

I can't find a quote from Steve Bruce saying that Waghorn is under contract at Sunderland next season - he just says that he will physically be back at Sunderland. Most managers in similar situations seem to say X is under contract for another year or whatever. I also haven't seen Waghorn say that he is under contract to Sunderland next season. I have seen end of contract dates as 30th June 2010 on various searches and also in the website leftsideoverhere referred to - two and a half years from Feb 2008. Since he is on a 24 hour recall to Sunderland NP has to be very careful in his media statements. Right - less of the cyberworld - I'm off to Peterborough now.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 According to the OS (today at least), he's not a loan player... must have signed him then.
sdb Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 i don't see how he can be out of contract if a) Sunderland say he'll be with them next year b) NP says we probably couldn't afford a transfer fee and c) Waghorn says he has no idea where he'll be next season
Ozwin Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 I think maybe it's just 3 parties all trying to be respectful to one and other.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 If we are still in the Championship next season, then Waggy would be worth signing. Not Premiership material though.
unreachable Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 As I mentioned in an earlier post I can't find anything on the Internet saying what sort of contract Waghorn has for next season 2010/11. Various sites mention his contract expires on 30th June 2010. Sunderland's OS says "he was offered a pro deal in the summer of 2008" which may be the contract expiring on 30th June.. What I thought was interesting that one of the local papers the Evening Chronicle said on 6th April 2010 "Current boss Steve Bruce has shown his faith in young midfielders Jordan Henderson and David Meyler, but Waghorn is in the dark about if he will be back at the Stadium of Light next term" http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/sunderland-afc/safc-news/2010/04/06/sunderland-urged-to-keep-martyn-waghorn-72703-26182921/ Elsewhere it is reported that Leicester have made an offer for Waghorn that has been turned down. Why this information cannot be authoritatively found out is a mystery to me. It needs some media outlet - The Leicester Mercury or Radio Leicester to ask the simple direct question then there is no need for this speculation!
leftsideoverhere Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 i don't see how he can be out of contract if a) Sunderland say he'll be with them next year b) NP says we probably couldn't afford a transfer fee and c) Waghorn says he has no idea where he'll be next season Strictly speaking, all the Steve Bruce quotes I've seen refer to Waggy being back with them "in the summer". That would be true, since his loan at Leicester will expire at the end of the season, even if his contract at Sunderland won't last beyond August. Could be all these things are true.
unreachable Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 The site owner of SAFC-World says "Waghorn signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at Sunderland in February 2008" but he doesn't state the exact expiry date. A lot of water to go under the bridge before then.........
Jfox Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 "Black Cats keen on Wickham" - Sky Sports Maybe Sunderland are after this guy to replace Waghorn??
Walshy5 Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 It wouldnt suprise me if someone else bought waghorn in the summer because we were not willing to pay enough money for him. I really hope im wrong though and i think we should break the bank to sign him because he,s quality!
Edmund Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 I think Steve Bruce is going to be on the moan in tonight to clear up the situation. I doubt Waghorn's going anywhere if Bruce is going to talk about his future publicly.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 Waghorn's contract runs out this summer doesn't it. If he chooses not to re-knew it, we can snap him up on a free. I think so anyway
Daggers Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 We need a sticky - Things We Should All Know Are True DJ can not be recalled, Waghorn's contract expires this summer
Trav Le Bleu Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 I think Steve Bruce is going to be on the moan in tonight to clear up the situation. I doubt Waghorn's going anywhere if Bruce is going to talk about his future publicly. Brucie's running scared
Callabinho Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 The reason Pearson is being tight lipped on Waggy is if he says the wrong thing then Brucie will take him strait back to sunderland!, and any way he wont cost us a penny because he is OUT OF CONTRACT with sunderland at the end of the season, its entirely up to him whether he stays or goes!
JoeyB Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 The reason Pearson is being tight lipped on Waggy is if he says the wrong thing then Brucie will take him strait back to sunderland!, and any way he wont cost us a penny because he is OUT OF CONTRACT with sunderland at the end of the season, its entirely up to him whether he stays or goes! If sunderland offer him a contract and he rejects it and we offer him a contract and he accepts it, we will owe them money as he is under the age of 23!
