FoxyPV Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 It depends on whether or not we get to the premier league, if we do Sunderland may loan him for another season as then he can't play against them but if we don't get up then they could sell himm as we are not a threat to them. Catch 22
somebum Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 I think they'd be a day of mourning around Leicester if he went back and never returned. hahaha have another beer mate. Talk about getting carried away! Sad
hbkkids Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 i think we should offer a deal sunderland carnt refuse, MM i giving us about £6m if we go up to buy new players, i say we offer £4.5m for Waghorn or something like that! anyway if we do go up we would replace a lot of are players because lets face it, hardly any of them are any good for the prem, and i would hate to go and watch city for the first game v whoever in the prem and hardly anybody from are squad in the 09/10 season are there, that for me would be awful. so buy waghorn who could possibly play prem football and then spend the remaining money on 1 or 2 players.
calum_lcfc Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 Hasnt Bruce already said that he wants Waggy to be apart of their squad last year? And wasn't he at the Cardiff game as well? If so I don't think we will keep him for next year. IF we go up we are a potential rival to Sunderland for Premership safety and surley they wouldnt let him leave to join a club which could cause problems for them? (Like DJ is for us!!) He is a hero though and will quite clearly be a big player in years to come, can he play in the play offs? Or isit like DJ's loan where the loan runs out before play offs?

Lillehamring Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 um, has anyone considered the possibility that if we get promoted or even if we don't but want to be serious contenders next season, that waghorn, gasp, actually isn't good enough. the problem with so many fans is that a player has a few good games (and wgahorn has had his fair share) and all of a sudden they think we have a new rooney/robiniho/messi on our hands. from what i have seen, right now, waghorn is no more than a decent championship striker, with bag loads of potential. i'm inclined to think that if we are promoted we will need someone much more established to lead our attacking campaign. and even if we don't go up, we have seen this season that a lack of goals has been one of the major differences between us and the top 2. i like waghorn, but, sorry, i'm not convinced he is the 'big summer signing' we will need - a part of the puzzle, yes, but if so not someone we can afford to blow most of the budget on.
Foxhateram Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 Its a story of potentials but i truly think waghorn will make the step up. I don't think going for "proven" option will work for us, we have got this far with a bunch of lads no one has ever heard of before and that is why our achievement is so impressive. If we do go up we owe it to these lads to have a chance. I would hate for us to go and do what we used to do and get promoted then buy a whole new sqaud leaving the lads who got us there to rot in the resies. Waggie is a confident and level headed bloke much like Fryatt and for some strange reason i feel that they can make the step up. Strange i know, but they just seem confident high willed blokes who never give up, and i would love to see them prove all there doubters wrong. Then again on the note of buying Waggie. Pearson is trying to talk down the price but i'm pretty sure Brucie has already said "no, no, no" (Amy whinehouse stylee).
surrifox Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 I got the impression that the Fulop business was personal involving Keane , not playing him but pricing him at a ridiculous figure to stitch him up

You've said hardly any of our players are ready for the prem, so why would you spend 3/4 of the 'available' money buying one striker?!!
richardsfoxes Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 The only way i can see him leaving sunderland is if he puts in a transfer request to join us/we can afford him, as i cant see steve bruce selling him, martin is a sunderland lad aswell so cant see him doing that unless he really loves it here.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Deal-bring-Martyn-Waghorn-Leicester-City-looks-unlikely/article-1973713-detail/article.html Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson would love to sign loan striker Martyn Waghorn permanently but does not believe it will happen.Waghorn scored twice and could have got a hat-trick as City bounced back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Queen's Park Rangers yesterday. And, on the day that the Mercury's Dare to Dream campaign to get everyone behind the team kicked in, it put City's play-off push back on track following a four-game losing run.The City fans chanted "sign him up" after Waghorn struck just before half-time and then five minutes after the interval to put City well in control against Neil Warnock's Londoners.Pearson is also a big admirer of the 20-year-old's talents, but he said he could not see Sunderland allowing Waghorn to leave the Stadium of Light permanently in the summer. Pearson said: "I understand why the fans sing that but, if I was Sunderland, why would I want to sell him?"Plus, there would be a very big question-mark whether we could afford him."That is not to say that I don't echo their sentiments. But the reality for him is that it is a loan situation and I think we have been clear all year what the situation is."He has been a great loan signing for us and I am sure Sunderland will feel it has been great for him as well."He has done very well for us. There is still a long way to go this season but he is playing his part."I think the fact he is playing first-team football and he is in and around the first-team selection process is itself a big step-up for him."He will learn as much from playing alongside good players as he will from the coaches and the manager."I am sure it has been a good experience for him, and I know he has been enjoying himself."Pearson said the result was all-important after City's recent poor run, especially as their play-off rivals kept the pressure on with victories. He added: "We needed a good response, there was no doubt about that."The result was always going to be more important than the performance, and that turned out to be the case."There is no doubt about it, we were very fortunate in the first half to go in 2-0 up."In the last two games, we have played much, much better and got nothing out of them. Today it was about getting the right result. To still be in the play-off places after losing four games is testament to the hard work the players have put in."

Cobbo Posted 7 April 2010 Posted 7 April 2010 Perhaps another year long loan, like Ben Foster with Watford a few years ago. Would benefit both parties as I don't see him being a regular for Sunderland until the season after next.
Fox 4 Life Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 From the Star but... "Martyn Waghorn has told Sunderland to keep him or else let him make his loan spell at Leicester permanent" http://www.teamtalk.co.za/papertalk/6081225
Darkzzz_ Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 I'd be happy to have him on a 10 year loan deal as there is no way Bruce will sell.
Dan Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Sunderland want Germany international striker Kevin Kuranyi apparently, so if he's 5th in line theres always hope.
Richard Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Come on Milan, get your chequebook out. I reckon anything around 2-3million is enough to be honest.
unreachable Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Waghorn is not one of their top strikers, even on his form with us! He wants to play, he likes it here, Depends on how he sees his career developing, He could do a Hobbs & sign & play & develop or maybe a Frazer Campbell and await his chance from the bench??? Up to him really, then again there is tha Mattock approach & request a transfer for more cash, I can not imagine he is on alot at Sunderland. Also he is out of contract at the end of this season, so he STILL has not signed a contract at sunderland, we can offer him a deal NOW & it will go to arbitration, now that sounds most likely! If Kilworthfox is correct, Waghorn can make his choice. If he can agree terms with Leicester then it would depend upon whether Sunderland and Leicester can agree a fee or if Leicester want to run the risk of the Tribunal fixing a different and possibly higher fee. I have Googled Waghorn +sunderland +contract and can find authority for his contract ending on 30th June 2010. Does anyone have an authoritative source as to Waghorn's contract with Sunderland? I expect Lisa will have this information at her fingertips.
shiv Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Don't know if anybody saw SSN today but in an interview with Steve Bruce, whilst talking about strengthening his squad in the summer he briefly said "We have a good bunch of youngsters too. Both Martyn Waghorn and Jack Colback are doing very well so we'll have them in our squad in the summer"

Or at least that's how i saw it Hope not though, but it's not looking promising.
Mee Posted 9 April 2010 Posted 9 April 2010 Just found this, sorry if it has already been posted, not alot new really but, Sunderland attacker Martyn Waghorn won't rule out staying with Leicester City.Waghorn has been impressive during his loan at Walkers stadium. “I’ve been asked by Leicester fans all season if I’ll be staying,” he said. “I love it at Leicester but we will have to wait and see what happens in the summer. “I haven’t spoken to Steve Bruce about the situation, we will just have to wait and see what happens.”
