Bert Posted 9 May 2010 Posted 9 May 2010 You've got 23 players to pick. If you were the Manager of "your" country who would you be taking? Joe Hart Paul Robinson David James Glen Johnson Wes Brown Ashley Cole Stephen Warnock John Terry Rio Ferdinand Ledley King Matt Upson Theo Walcott Aaron Lennon James Milner Steven Gerrard Frank Lampard Gareth Barry Shaun Wright Phillips Michael Carrick Wayne Rooney Emile Heskey Peter Crouch Jermaine Defoe. Rob Green is not international class and Paul Robinson has had a much better season in my opinion. James provides experience and Hart has had the best season out of every English goalkeeper. Would love Bridge as cover for Cole, but that's just not going to happen I don't think, otherwise, a solid backline, with good cover. With Barry looking likely to miss the start, hopefully, we'll play with Lampard and Gerrard in midfielder, with two wingers, preferably being Lennon and Milner, for me. Harsh on Bent, but he just doesn't cut it at International level, whereas the others do. Heskey hasn't a great scoring record, but offers a whole lot more to the team.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 I think your squad is pretty spot on, i would them to find room for Adam Johnson but it is very unlikely.
Uncle Albert Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 1. James 2. Hart 3. Green 4. Terry 5. Ferdinand 6. A Cole 7. Johnson 8. King 9. Warnock 10. Upson 11. Gerrard 12. Lampard 13. Barry 14. Lennon 15. Milner 16. Wright - Phillips 17. Carrick 18. J Cole 19. Rooney 20. Crouch 21. Defoe 22. Bent 23. Walcott Would like to see us go with the message we're taking 5 strikers and I would class Walcott as a striker. 7 defenders with worse case scenario Gareth Barry filling in at fullback if anything bad happens, wouldnt mind seeing Carragher making it in the squad ahead of Upson but can't see it, would make sense to take Carragher if you take 7 defenders because Carra can play across the back four where as Upson is limited to centre half.

Simo86 Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 GK: Hart, James, Green Def: G.Johnson, Jagielka, A.Cole, Baines, Terry, Ferdinand, King, Dawson Mid: Milner, Lennon, A.Johnson, Gerrard, Lampard, Carrick, Barry, Walcott For: Defoe, Rooney, Crouch, Heskey
Samilktray Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Adam Johnson has to go for me, he looks like he could be really dangerous for us.
Simi Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Joe Hart Rob Green David James Glen Johnson Wes Brown Ashley Cole Stephen Warnock John Terry Rio Ferdinand Ledley King Michael Dawson Theo Walcott Aaron Lennon James Milner Steven Gerrard Frank Lampard Gareth Barry Tom Huddlestone Adam Johnson Wayne Rooney Darren Bent Peter Crouch Jermaine Defoe.
Hitesh Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Joe Hart David James Rob Green Glen Johnson Jamie Carragher (if he says yes, otherwise, Micah Richards) John Terry Rio Ferdinand Ledley King Stephen Dawson Ashley Cole Stephen Warnock Steven Gerrard Frank Lampard Theo Walcott Aaron Lennon James Milner Gareth Barry (if he doesnt make it then Adam Johnson) Michael Carrick Joe Cole Wayne Rooney Emile Heskey Jermaine Defoe Peter Crouch No Bent for me either, and Warnock has the nod in front of Baines. Was gonna be SWP or Cole and given Cole has more experience, I went for him. Would take Johnson if Barry doesn't make it. And Carragher if he agrees otherwise I would take Richards as backup.

Bugg Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 wouldnt mind seeing Carragher making it in the squad. He's retired mate.
Maybes Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 He's retired mate. He's not. Hes came out and said he wants to be considered again after all that went on in the past. Even though he has played not part whatsoever in the qualifying group there is no reason why England should cut off their nose to spite their face. It wouldn't surprise me to see him in the 30 man pre-liminary squad.
Libertine Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 He's retired mate. Rumoured to be coming out of retirement.

Joe. Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 1. David James 2. Joe Hart 3. Rob Green 4. Glen Johnson 5. Micah Richards 6. John Terry 7. Ledley King 8. Rio Ferdinand 9. Ashley Cole 10. Lleighton Baines 11. Joe Cole 12. Aaron Lennon 13. James Milner 14. Steven Gerrard 15. Frank Lampard 16. Gareth Barry 17. Michael Carrick 18. Adam Johnson 19. Theo Walcott 20. Peter Crouch 21. Wayne Rooney 22. Emile Heskey 23. Jermain Defoe I don't see how there can't be a place for Adam Johnson, it'd be ridiculous if he didn't get on that plane this summer. The only naturally left footed English wide player in the Premiership, he's playing regularly and for a top five side. What more can he do? 10 assists this season to go with a couple of tasty goals, it's an absolute no-brainer. Richards can play at centre back if needs be so we don't really need him and four other centre backs if this were the squad (which it won't be). I'd like to see Joe Cole in the 30-man provisional at least but I think he should make the full squad.
Guest ttfn Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Hart Weale Green Johnson Terry Dawson King Cole Baines Upson Lampard Gerrard Beckham Milner Young Barry Lennon Downing Walcott Rooney Crouch Bent Defoe This is presumably a joke squad right? No Heskey or Ferdinand? BECKHAM?!!! For the record: Green James Hart Johnson P Neville A Cole King Ferdinand Terry Upson Baines Milner Gerrard Lampard Barry Walcott Lennon J Cole A Johnson Rooney Defoe Crouch Heskey I can't believe there's not been more of a clamour for either of the Nevilles, especially Phil. He can play both full back positions and defensive midfield as a hacker (which we may need at some point) all to a decent, if unspectacular standard. He's been to 3 major tournaments and hasn't turned his back on England before unlike some.
Tommeh Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Strange no one fancies Heskey, he'll be one of the first on the plane. Adam Johnson, King and Joe Cole will be the 3 I hope make it who could be doubted by some with Carrick, SWP and Upson Just missing out.
FoxyPV Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Was going to do a squad full of people who are either old, dead or shite but couldn't be arsed listing them all.
Libertine Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Was going to do a squad full of people who are either old, dead or shite but couldn't be arsed listing them all. Should have done it. I would have laughed and everything.
dandannieldanok Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Strange no one fancies Heskey, he'll be one of the first on the plane. Not that strange when you consider the poor season he's had. And he shouldn't be first on the plane if Capello is going to stick with his principle of picking players on form, in fact on that basis he shouldn't be on it at all.
Tilley Posted 10 May 2010 Posted 10 May 2010 Should have done it. I would have laughed and everything. . Twat. Would have been proper hilarious though.
