ScouseFox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Thinking about it, I can't see anyone running this league next year, like Newcastle/West brom this year. It could all be very tight. Wish we didn't have to wait until August for it to start!
Guest ttfn Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 The teams to watch for are: Middlesbrough Leicester Forest Cardiff if they don't go up Leeds Reading Swansea I'd be surprised if any of those finished out of the top 10. QPR are too unstable and Burnley, Hull and Portsmouth are statistically, as well as actually, the worst relegated trio in premier league history. It's all very well and good Burnley having money, but they don't want to spend it. Also, who would go to Burnley?!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I will stick my neck out and say that we could possibly reach the play offs.
samjohnson Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 All 3 of the Premier League teams that have been relegated will struggle, either with money (or lack of it) or the fact that they are 1 hit wonders... Teams to watch out for (in my own unproffesional opinion) are: Leicester Notts Forest Loser of Champ PO-Final Reading Norwich Swansea (but they can't score!) Leeds will struggle IMO, they will be looking at mid table, and the L1 PO-Final winner will go straight back down.
Tilley Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Top ten?! That would be a backwards step..... The Championship won't be as strong as some people are making out. Portsmouth have no money, likewise with Hull who are just terrible anyway and as for Burnley, they have Brian Laws in charge. Forest will be a force next season then Middlesbrough, Reading, Sheffield United, Ipswich, Bristol City may have decent seasons but we're better than most of them. The promoted sides coming up will be far more dangerous than the teams coming down. Leeds, I doubt will have Beckford and I doubt they'll be anywhere near us. Norwich if they strengthen could maybe emulate what we have achieved this season, however. If we can keep hold of the likes of Weale, Hobbs, King, Fryatt and bring in a few new players where we need them then I don't see why we can't be pushing top six again, maybe even aim abit higher. Who wants to be happy with top ten? You want to progress in football, not take a step back.
Fosse Boy Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 As long as our players give 100% I'm happy to enjoy the wild ride and take anything good that comes our way as a bonus. As I said in the other thread I'd love to see us replicate this season or even do one better, but this is such a difficult league to predict that I won't be too unhappy with anything top half.
flanimal Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 It's all about progress. We finished 5th last season, that's about 20+ places on the season before that one. If we can finish three places higher than we did this season, we go up automatically. All those players will want it even more now.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 We need to show character next season to bounce back, Sheff Utd, Reading and Preston (i think) struggled this year after losing in the Playoffs last year but this set of players have proved time and time again under Pearson that we have character. I see no reason why we can't be up there again.
flanimal Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Also, they are probably going to get more players in. Not sure what type, probably a right back, creative midfielder and another striker. Either way, the squad should be stronger next year.
ramboacdc Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 how many loan players do forest have at the moment? im struggling to think of one. i think if we can get some good strong signings in and not have to rely on the loan market so much we can push for 2nd or 1st. dont get me wrong we have done amazing this year with our loanees but i dont think teams gel as well when they know they are going to be broken up at the end of the season. manderic should open his wallet a bit and push for the premiership.
leeleic Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I think we're in for another play-off battle. Automatic is a certain possibility..... BUT..... we have to keep our key players: Hobbs, Weale, King, Fryatt. Howard also has to stay, if we sold him, it'd only be to another championship club and at this level he's deadly. I think we're a better side with him in. If somehow we could perform miracles and get Waggy back in but on a permanent deal (I know, i know. But still) or the more likely a season long loan with a view to a permanent that'd help a tad too. Im a huge fan or Waggy's, sums up what city are all about, hard working, battling, never say die attitude. He'd be a legend here in no time. We need another CM too. I'm not sure what to make of Wellens , what does he actually bring to the side? He cant tackle, he can only just about pass??? Oakley is ageing and seems to struggle to complete matches. And we need a full back!!! Ummmm, other than that, maybe a few extra's, we'll be fine next year. C'mon Citeh!!!
Ozwin Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 We need another CM too. I'm not sure what to make of Wellens , what does he actually bring to the side?. I think you've been watching different matches to everyone else, Wellens was heroic last night and has been for a while now. He's our best midfielder by a country mile.

They seem like more of a one hit wonder than burnley were.
Frost Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 May I firstly say that I am so proud of Nigel, the backroom staff, fans and the players for what we have achieved this season, as well as our performance in the play-offs (mainly the second leg). What Pearson has been able to do at this club is to give us a good, fast, passing side, with a bit of steel in areas where needed, which has been missing for years. I think for next season, the key is to add a couple of players to the squad, and making sure we have the same foundation of the team we have had this season. Jack Hobbs is the best prospect I have seen down at the Walkers for a long time, and will no doubt be our captain next season, assuming he stays. Pearson has an unbelievable eye for talent and the team that he has been able to mould together with the budget he has had is a miracle. Whether it has been the wise head of players, such as Solano, or youngsters hungry for first team football in Waghorn, some of the football this season has been great, and I really do appreciate what Pearson has done for this club. He's even managed to get the best out of players such as Berner, who's had a great season. The garbage we have suffered in recent years, at times, down at City has been, in one word, awful. Oh well, many are disappointed that we haven't made it to the play-off final when it was within our grasp, but Cardiff are no mugs. A quality passing side with talent in many players such as Boothroyd, Burke, Whittingham, Chopra etc. I hope this summer that we are able to sign Waghorn on a permanent deal. He's a great prospect for the future and after his first full season, it looks as if he will get better and better. So, simply, we've had a good season, with most of us at the start of the season thinking that it was unlikely we would grab a play-off spot. I have faith in Pearson over the summer to add more quality to the team. In my opinion, cover at both right and left back would be great, as well as a striker, whether it would be Waghorn or someone else. My last hope is that Mandaric dips into his cheque-book, but by no means breaking the budget etc. I look foward to seeing us Foxes next season pushing for promotion (preferably), but just remember where we have come from in the last couple of years.
CKB Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't care what anyone says next season will be harder More expectation Teams will no even more about us Championship is unpredictable If we do the following We have to keep the core of the squad together and of course NP We need to strengthen in certain areas And we have a chance like probs 10/12 teams do! It's gonna be another battle with ups and downs no doubt..
Cal Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Tunch should be fit for next season, he'l feel like a new signing
Goddard Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 My heart says another top 6 finish. My head says it's going to be a hard season. I think the current crop have certainly overachieved this season and a good dozen sides in the Chmpionship have underachieved. The league table could almost be upside down next season and I wouldn't be surprised. Just look at the four teams in the play offs this season. I predicted Cardiff to be in the playoffs, (and optimistically Leicester), but Forest and Blackpool I'd have had down the bottom of the league. You just don't know who is going to come out all guns blazing when that season kicks off. Middlesborough, Derby, Preston, Coventry, QPR could all easily have an upturn in fortunes next season. Then there is the momentum of Leeds and Norwich, I wouldn't be surprised if one of those sides follows in our footsteps this season. A lot of people are saying they're nothing without Beckford, but we have had Fyatt out for half the season and filled the void in most areas with loanees. There is nothing stopping other clubs doing the same thing. Either way, I have my season ticket and I fully expect a season of frustration, but that's football !
lavrentis Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I said we should aim for automatic spots last year and we should next year as well. What's the point in being in the league if you aren't going to challenge for the highest spot? Pearson isn't the sort of manager who makes do with the playoffs, he'll want us to challenge the top two.
Goddard Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 There's a difference between an aim and an expectation.
lavrentis Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 There's a difference between an aim and an expectation. Ok then, I expect us to be challenging at the top of the table, much like this season.

Granted, i haven't seen as many matches as id have liked, but the ones I have have left me with doubts. Obviously he has something, NP wouldnt stick with him if he didn't, but all i see is a persistent fouler? He could've walked last night if the ref wasn't so lenient. But hey, its just my opinion and thats what were sharing. Hopefully he'll demonstrate to me what he does to you!

C-man Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 When talking about strengthening, I can't imagine who I'd leave out. We need a new left-back if only for cover for Bruno. Perhaps a new centre-back if Tunchev's still doubtful. Assuming we can't get Spearing we need another midfielder of his ilk and definitely another forward thinking midfielder if not a striker. Having said that, I love the lot of them from the past two seasons and not one deserves to be dropped or discarded.
