thybluefox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 So, as the dust begins to settle after last nights game, where do you honestly think we'll be challenging next season? Automatic slots? Play offs again? Or, could it be that difficult second album season, and we'll find ourselves in midtable mediocrity? Let the arguing commence!
The Doctor Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 i think the top 10 at least although a little part of my brain is saying Leicester and Forest automatic (if cardiff go up - else Cardiff & Forest automatic & Leicester through the play-offs) edit: after all Burnley are one hit wonders, Hull and Pompey are haemorraging money and will undoubtably lose everyone of any value playing for them, Newcastle and WBA are gone, Middlesborough haven't impressed in recent years Without beckford Leeds will likely struggle to a mid-table to lower table finish Norwich might be a threat but they'll probably fall short Whoever wins the L1 play-offs will struggle Blackpool will struggle to repeat this season if they fail Swansea are appauling in front of goal and that alone will see them fall short Reading are very likely to lose Kebe, McAnuff and Sigurdsson (sp) and without them reading's best bet is play-offs IMO
martyn Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Hugely dependent on what happens in the summer. Keep NP and the core of our squad, we should be challenging for the play off spots again although, I think it would be unfair to expect a similar league finish next season.
ScouseFox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 If Cardiff go up, I believe we've lost the three best teams in this division, and replaced them with Hull & Pompey, both skint, and Burnley, who don't look that strong on paper. So i'm going for play offs again, if we keep hold of Pearson, and strengthen, then automatic
cosb6 Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't really get the "if we keep hold of Pearson". I really don't think he'll be in huge demand, so expect this to be a certainty!
Finchy Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't really get the "if we keep hold of Pearson". I really don't think he'll be in huge demand, so expect this to be a certainty! Agreed, the only clubs bigger than City looking for a manager aren't interested so I don't know where or why he'd go, for the time being anyway. I also don't think he's the type of man to do that. My main worry is holding on to Hobbs, Fryatt and King. If we can hold on to them, I don't see why we can't aim to do the same again. Also lets not forget how good our scouts are, hopefully we'll be bringing in more fantastic loans. I just hope people don't expect too much and put a lot of pressure on the team.
Corky Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 With the right moves in the transfer market (in and out), keeping the bulk of the squad and our manager then I see no reason why we can't hit the top six again.
flanimal Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I think automatic is achievable. Last season I truly believed play offs could be reached, and I was right (although I did also think Kermorgant would be a fantastic signing!) But the teams in The Championship are weaker next season. Newcastle and West Brom were always going to go up. But Portsmouth, Hull and Burnley are worse than those teams. It's not impossible, that after suffering the pain of play off defeat the players do everything they can to go up automatically.
Joe. Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 There's absolutely no reason why we couldn't go for play-offs again with the teams going up and coming down this year. With the right activity in the summer transfer window we can go for another good year without question.
Dames Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 With WBA and Newcastle gone and possibly Cardiff as well that leaves (I hate to say it) Forest as the only really 'Decent' Team in the Division. So next season it looks like anything is possible. As mentioned above the teams coming down are crap, Pompey might not even exsist, Burnley are bad, Hull will sell off any decent players they have. If Blackpool stay down they'll go back to mid table because DJ will probably join Newcastle since they are skint and desperate. So please stay Nige, Keep the players (Hopefully sign 1 or 2 of the loanees) and next season anything is possible.
Bryn Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 As I've said elsewhere, I could name 15 potential challenges for the top 6 next season, and I wouldn't want to write off the other 9 entirely either. I would certainly not be angry if we don't make the playoffs, I think top 10 remains our goal.
calum_lcfc Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 If we keep the spine of our team and add the right play offs I think it will be the drama of the play offs again
C-man Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Top 10 would be a good season but I'd love to reach the playoffs again. Nights like last night are the reason I watch football.
Ozwin Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't think I could do playoffs again and we didn't even make it to the final.
Foxhateram Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't think I could do playoffs again and we didn't even make it to the final. Nige and the lads are very professional, they will re-start the engines and go for it again next season. There were parts this season where top two were actually looking like they might have been possible! Before that loss of 4 games then we actually looked like chasing the top two to the finish line! Bring it on next season! We can do it! We have a young squad that have by no means peaked! Next year they will have another years experience under their belts and i can only see them getting better and better! Bring on next season!
purpleronnie Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I actually think it will be tougher next season, I would like to think we could reach the play offs. My prediction is 9th. But I predicted mid table this season so.......
Webbo Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I just worry that we might have lost our momentum now. Hanging on to our stars and a good start are essential if we are going to achieve the same level(or better)of success next season.
The Blur Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I'll settle for top seven finish, it all depends who is bought and sold in summer but anything below tenth would be a disappointment. I just hope second season syndrome doesn’t kick in at all But several teams took more than one attempt to get promoted but end up staying up ( Wigan etc) so I’ll think Leicester’ll follow that mould.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I rekon we will finish top 10 would love play offs again
dandannieldanok Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 We won plenty of marginal games this seasons (e.g. by the odd goal) so we have to be careful of our expectations. Those types of games could easily go against us next season. The strange thing is that I reckon the teams coming up from League One will be more of a threat than those coming down from the Premiership. What will play in our favour is that there is unlikely to be a couple of runaways like Newcastle and West Brom. I think we should be delighted if we made the play-offs again. If we add more quality in the summer then of course automatic is in our reach, but it's going to be massively competitive in the top 10.
fosseman Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 See you, Nige. Thanks for the good memories. Best of luck for the future!
FoxyPV Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 It depends on who we get etc but I don't think it's unthinkable to get into the playoffs again (hopefully automatic )
z-layrex Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 My gf's family are all Leeds fans so as long as we do better than them i'm happy.
flanimal Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Some people here are so fooking negative. We've come from the third division and only narrowly missed on Wembley, and people are saying "top 10 finish next season". We can do automatic! Get a grip. We got to fifth with hardly any spending and hardly any experience! We can go up as runners up or better next year - if we keep Pearson and the main players.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 No need for the discussion. We've shown what a quality set of lads we've got so therefore I'd say automatic or maybe playoffs, anything less will be dissapointing. People say look how far we've come, but times change and you have to keep up with change. We have to improve on what we've achieved this season.
