The Doctor Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 But some of them wont even go, you would think they'd go all out and risk injury. One highlight was the crackin atmsophere. all of them? Everyone knows the only reason some players (Rooney, Gerrard, A. Cole, G. Johnson, Ferdinand, Heskey) would miss out on the world cup would be because of injuries picked up in these friendlies.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 I was really worried in the last 15-10 minutes of the game last night, really thought Gerrard or Rooney were going to get injured and both of them kept flying into tackles aswell, hope neither of them play on Sunday now. What time is kick off on Sunday?

dandannieldanok Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 I've definitely had a change of heart over Joe Cole's inclusion. We're lacking badly on that left-wing, as showed by Adam Johnson doing more in 5 mins over there than anyone who else who tried during the whole game. Gerrard has only been sporadically effective on the left and is so obviously better in the middle. Joe Cole was arguably our best player at WC 2006 and I'd love Capello to be bold and take both him and Johnson in the final 23. Also from last night's game, I think our defence look shocking without Terry. Say what you like about his character, but for me he's quite clearly our best central defensive option. King has had a cracking end to this season domestically, but I thought he looked very shaky and to be fair, Rio wasn't much better. Leighton Baines simply should not be making the 23 with that kind of performance. For the USA game I'd like to see a straight 4-4-2: James G Johnson Terry Ferdinand A Cole Lennon Lampard Gerrard J Cole/A Johnson Crouch Rooney
Fosse Fox Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 Against Japan I'd like to see... Hart Johnson - King - Terry - A. Cole Lampard - Gerrard - Milner Lennon - Rooney - J. Cole Change in formation - no idea if it would work without a natural holding player but I guess we need to try something as a back-up plan? Don't necessarily need a holding player in there if they attack and defend as a trio. Although Green was decent last night I want to see more of Joe Hart. His energy and eagerness impressed me. Get Cashley back involved as I thought Baines was poor last night. Ferdinand and King clearly aren't a partnership so we should have a look at JT next to King. I like James Milner and think he definitely deserves a place somewhere in the side. Lennon offers more than Walcott in my opinion and Joe Cole has to go. Just think he can do something special for us. Spotted! But if you were a thirty something world famous central defender on squillions per week how would you take being hollered at by a second string rookie earning diddlysquat?
BoneDog Posted 25 May 2010 Posted 25 May 2010 I watched the match on repeat today. What the hell were the commentators doing when Mexico scored? There was a four second pause and then Townsend said "he's given it" and the other guy said "has he given it? It was a very tight call". WTF were those two on?! Mentalists

Mentalists The 'other guy' was none other than Peter 'is it really 3-0 to Chelsea?' Dreary whose drury ( ), over rehearsed spontaneous one liners (shrieked at 160 decibels) substitute for observation. We have one month of his prescripted match commentaries to look forward to boys so you better get the Optrex in now while stocks last.
shen Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Denmark cruised through a 2-0 win against a surprisingly poor and lackluster Senegal side, but Simon Kjær had to be stretchered off a few minutes before the end. That could prove to be a major blow for their hopes if he doesn't recover
Fosse Fox Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 Strange, I could have sworn that England were playing Nippon on Sunday - must have been a dream. Or it's on ITV (can't get much lower profile these days)
Mikey Posted 29 May 2010 Posted 29 May 2010 Only just seen it but Germany beat some amateur team 24-0 on Thursday. Don't really see how that could be good preparation.
lildave3 Posted 29 May 2010 Posted 29 May 2010 Only just seen it but Germany beat some amateur team 24-0 on Thursday. Don't really see how that could be good preparation. Not just an amateur team...their under 20's
isaidno Posted 29 May 2010 Posted 29 May 2010 England team to face Japan:David James, Glen Johnson, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Tom Huddlestone, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent. I would have started Adam Johnson, Walcott had his chance against Mexico
Fosse Fox Posted 29 May 2010 Posted 29 May 2010 I would have started Adam Johnson, Walcott had his chance against Mexico Don't fall for the Smoggie hype - he's OK technically (and no more than that) but not nearly quick enough for a wide man at international level. If that is the XI that will line up against Nippon it is close to the best that England can muster in my opinion (though I wouldn't start with James, Terry or Bent in South Africa). A big day for Bent tomorrow but he's on a hiding to nothing. If he blanks against the Japs it'll not only be curtains for his squad hopes but also for his England career.
The Doctor Posted 29 May 2010 Posted 29 May 2010 Don't fall for the Smoggie hype - he's OK technically (and no more than that) but not nearly quick enough for a wide man at international level. as opposed to walcott who has pace but doesn't appear to know how to use it nor can he provide an end result. Walcott is just a rich mans DJ Campbell.

dandannieldanok Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 New Zealand 1-0 Serbia Radovan.. The fans started rioting because of their team's performance
Bakey Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 If todays starting defence conceeds a single goal i will be dissapointed,
davieG Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 If todays starting defence conceeds a single goal i will be dissapointed, Ooops!
BlueSi13 Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Should never have scored from there with a man on the post for good measure... Also, ive not heard of a single member of this Japan squad and yet they still look comfortable against Rooney, Ferdinand, Lampard, Cole etc, not good at all so far.
Edmund Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Also, ive not heard of a single member of this Japan squad I'm surprised you've never heard of Honda. CSKA's top man.
Edmund Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 we're terrible, but in a friendly so.... Yeah it's been an awful game to watch but like you say it's a friendly so would take this performance with a pinch of salt. Players don't want to get injured etc I think I'm going to turn over to the test match rather than watch the second half. More action to be seen at Lord's
