dandannieldanok Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Not really people keep on about his scoring record but he opens the game up for other players to score, bent was hopeless, I'd take heskey over him everyday you have to look at the bigger picture. He's a striker and he can't score, simple. We can't afford to miss those type of chances at the World Cup, and that's not the only sitter he's missed for England under Capello. Crouch does the same job as Heskey, if not better, yet he scores and always carries a goal threat. Defences are, and will not be, frightened of Emile Heskey. Bent may have been crap today but he's earned the chance to get on that plane, Capello promised he would only pick in-form players, if Heskey goes to the World Cup that is a betrayal of that promise. I've got nothing against the guy, I'm sure he's a decent bloke and he's always a grafter, but I just don't think he's done much at all to deserve a shot at the world cup.
Koke Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 I would like to point out that Spain beat Saudi Arabia "only" 3-2. Germany played against some under 20 amateur kids and beat them 3478-0 or something to that effect. Portugal drew 0-0 with Cape de Verde [*chuckles*].

Crouch is the better of the two !! I wudnt take bent either sorry!! but his game doesnt fit into capello's tactics , hes not a target man like crouch !! he;s too simliar to rooney or defoe just with a bit more height !!! i wud leave out , warnock , dawson, carrick, huddlestone, parker, bent and heskey!!

So you would only take 3 strikers, Rooney, Defoe and Crouch. Can't really count Walcott as a striker, Capello has never played him there. Puts a lot of pressure on the 3 and if any get injured we are screwed. Only one of Bent, Rooney, Crouch, Heskey and Defoe will be left out and that will most likely be Bent.

Every team will have it's blip, this was ours. We were dreadful today and not much better against Mexico, but we don't learn much from stuffing everybody 5-0. This should help keep our feet on the ground and show us that there is no such thing as a piss easy group in the World Cup.

Crouch doesn't bully defenders, nor does he draw people to him as much, it takes at least 2 defenders to get the ball off Heskey when he's holding it up well and Crouch is far too lightweight to do that... Also Crouch encourages the long ball far too much which isn't his fault granted, and it would be fine if his heading wasn't so mediocre.

Can you not see that were better when playing Rooney upfront alone and Gerrard just behind him!! for sum reason Rooney likes playin on his own , he did for Man Utd this season and pretty much destroyed defences !! we'll have the options of playing defoe or crouch when capello plays 4-4-2 which is looking like a formation England cant play without Barry!!

Yes you can take that risk if heskey allows other players to score, bent doesnt, rooney plays better with heskey and scores more often. I agree crouch should go, but bent should not. How did Walcott and Lennon do? Both pretty poor.
Koke Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 How did Walcott and Lennon do? Lennon was alright. Played on the left mainly though. Walcott wouldn't get into my pub side.
Joe. Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Don't know how many more opportunities Walcott's going to get to be honest, he seems to be one of Capello's chosen men to me. I rate the guy but he's nowehere near consistent enough to warrant a place in the England first team. He's living off one blistering performance it seems.

I can see thats an option, I don't think we play better like that really, but we play ok. But taking 3 is still a risk, even if we plan to play that way. What if Crouch breaks an ankle after coming on as sub in the first game? Leaves us very light on options up front. Means if we're 1-0 down in the quarters with 25 mins to go, the only option we really have is to throw Defoe on. Even if we only play one up top, we still need 4 strikers. Options are important.
purpleronnie Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 England U17s are European Champions for the first time.
sdb Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Heskey gets a tough time. He's played 15 mins, nearly scored, probably should have but Rooney looked set too touch it and it was a bit of a stretch. Defoe and Bent played 3 times as much footie this past week, neither of them scored. Rooney's played 3 hours (?) and not scored. England looked better (and scored) with Heskey on the pitch, and he didn't even play that well (also unsuprising as he's barely played the last 2 months). Give him a break, he was outstanding in qualifying and England scored a record amount of goals going to the WC. There are other more pressing issues such as 2 out of form CB's, poor wingers today, and no real replacement if Barry doesn;t make it.
CosbehFox Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Couple of those Japan players might be worth looking at. Bar the goalscorer, I thought they were poor. Even the goalie had some dodgy moments. I would like to point out that Spain beat Saudi Arabia "only" 3-2. Germany played against some under 20 amateur kids and beat them 3478-0 or something to that effect. Portugal drew 0-0 with Cape de Verde [*chuckles*]. Spain was a last minute goal too. I was reading a betting site which recently remarked that these warm up friendlies are where a lot of clever money can be won. None of the top sides put much application in them, not many times are the first XI on show, the manager and player doesn't want any injuries and they frankly don't give a flyer. However, the opposition have no pressure, see the opportunity for a scalp, sometimes the games are derbies and it's the last time before the summer they are showcased to the scouts. With this mind, the site advised that England losing to Mexico, Algeria losting to Ireland and Tunisia beating France would be sensible. Good point I thought...England were at times outpassed by Mexico, Algeria looked hopeless against Ireland and Tunisia are beating France 1-0..... Belarus bt South Korea as well today. Serbia lost to New Zealand yesterday. For a knockabout friendly, I didn't think England were that bad. I was better than I expected!
Fosse Fox Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Agree with this. Every team will have it's blip, this was ours. Brainy Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 Now I wonder who's bandwagon it is that you've just jumped on? What are your thoughts on Serbia's defeat against the mighty New Zealand?
Guest Bilo Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 What are your thoughts on Serbia's defeat against the mighty New Zealand? Exactly. Not going to jump on the 'let's pretend to be an Eastern European pseudo football expert' bandwagon. This is because I actually know what a vagina looks like.
FoxyPV Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 That match was absolute shite today. I would have rather sat through a 10 hour Loose Women special starring only your woman Carol.
BlueSi13 Posted 30 May 2010 Posted 30 May 2010 England U17s are European Champions for the first time. woo, great news, after the U21's making the final last year and now this, maybe our future is looking brighter as a national team and maybe the main focus on technical skill in training and upbringing is beginining to pay off
ozleicester Posted 1 June 2010 Posted 1 June 2010 Australi 0 - 0 Holland 60th minute... not looking good for either side My link
