Hi Rochdale Fan here. Commiserations on your play off heartache been. Well Tom Kennedy or TK as we call him is a terrific left back and imo far to good for us and we have been spoilt with him the past few years. His ball control, distribution and crossing is top notch. He also had a decent free kick and penalty. He is overall well disciplined and i am convinced he will become your number 1 left back next season i promise you that. I have no problem with TK leaving he has done the job he was brought into do and now wants to enhance his career. if he continues to develop i see no reason why he cant be a premier league left back. Thanks for the memories Tom

Best wishes next season

Interesting. Not sure I see him displacing Bruno immediately though.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Probably some glaringly obvious answer that's going to make me look like a right window-licker but why is your song for him that he's 'not a bucket anymore'?

For the all important penalty shoot out?

Surprised he's considered only back up for Bruno, who wasn't half as good in the last third of the season as earlier on. Competition is good - now let's get an RB to match!

In Nigel we trust. This made me laugh though:

On the 29th August Rochdale played host to Tom's former club Bury in a League Two clash at Spotland. Rochdale were leading 2-0 when Will Buckley was brought down in the box to win a penalty. Tom Kennedy stepped up and added the 3rd goal and then celebrated the goal by cupping his ear and running along the wing in front of all of the Bury fans celebrating. This resulting in the Bury fans jumping onto the pitch and one even chased Kennedy. Kennedy received a yellow card for his actions.

:P

Found a clip of it

Pleased were off the mark. Never heard of the boy, but the Rochdale fan has him in high regard, he seems to have all the qualities and seems to be set piece specialist. He's also made it into the team of the year. Looking forward to see him in pre season.

I'm guessing it's because he used to play for Bury who are their biggest rivals and in the past Bury used to collect money with buckets to save their club.

Just a guess but I reckon it's spot on.

Its what we needed, Berner had quite a few injuries last year and this signing will do us well in the long term as well.

Official confirmation! http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2068204,00.html

Leicester City have made Rochdale defender Tom Kennedy their first signing of the Summer. Kennedy has joined the Foxes on a free transfer and has penned a three year deal at the Walkers Stadium.

Kennedy, 25, has made over 100 appearances for Rochdale, and helped them to promotion from League Two for the first time in 41 years.

The left back joined Rochdale from Bury in 2007, and has since been named the club's Player of the Year in 2009, and been selected in the League Two Team of the Year in both of the last two seasons.

Kennedy comes with a rich footballing pedigree, his uncle Alan having played for Liverpool between 1978 and 1985, and scoring the winning goal in the 1981 European Cup Final.

Wow, didnt know he came from a footballing family too. I remember watching his uncle in the 80's on tv he was a good squad player in a truely great Liverpool team.

Free transfer as well. Long term replacement for Berner. Heard good stuff about him - let's hope he delivers.

Bucket is the nickname for Bury. Kennedy made the switch to Rochdale on a free from Bury and still lives in Bury with his Mum.

When scoring in the derby this year, we ran down in front of the away fans handing out stick which all things considered was probably fair.

He's a good player. Set pieces are superb. Free-kicks, extremely dangerous from corners but he's very one footed (does this odd turn to get him out of trouble).

Pleased. One of the best free's we could have got on the market.

How good is he defensively, anyone?

He sounds like a carbon copy of Alan Sheehan. Good left foot, good free kick taker, puts in some good crosses, dangerous from corners. All Sheehan qualities. Though as we know defensively Sheehan was wank.

Against Notts County, he was fine. Rarely got beat (he's quite quick) and didn't get bullied but tbf, he was in a winning team. So difficult to tell what he'd be like under pressure. His temperament is better than Sheehan's though. I know it's no 'award' but Dale rated him as their best ever left-back.

He's also bezzies with Adams.

“An Easy Decision To Make”

Posted on: Thu 10 Jun 2010New Leicester City signing Tom Kennedy has revealed that despite being the subject of interest from a number of Championship clubs, when he became aware of City's intent, the decision to move to the Walkers Stadium was an easy one.

Kennedy, 25, joins the Foxes from Rochdale on a three year deal, and is delighted to have made the switch to City.

"I'd met with a few clubs, but three of four weeks ago I spoke to Steve Walsh (Leicester's Head of Recruitment) and then told my agent this is where I wanted to play.

"It was a pretty straightforward decision in the end, the other clubs were good clubs but when Leicester City come calling you don't turn them down."

Kennedy helped Rochdale to promotion to League One, after losing out in the play-offs in the previous two seasons, and the defender says he is hoping that his new club can bounce back from their play-off semi-final heartbreak in a similar way.

"Before going up with Rochdale, we lost in the play-off final in 2008, and the semi-finals a year later, so I know what it takes to pick yourself up after a disappointment.

"You don't rest on your laurels just because you've made the play-offs, you push on again in the next season and have the belief that you can get up."

Kennedy made 158 appearances for Bury between 2002 and 2007, playing alongside City midfielder Nicky Adams. The pair are good friends, and Kennedy says Adams was happy to promote the virtues of playing for Leicester.

"I know Nicky Adams really well and he was full of praise for the club. He said that there's a great set of lads here, and I'd fully enjoy it and fit right in."
