dandannieldanok Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 It's all about playing to the conditions. I'm not condoning the Chilean's play-acting, or the referee's over-zealous performance, but you have to be clever enough to realise what's going on and adapt your game to ensure you don't get in trouble. Unfortunately for Behrami, he didn't engage his brain.

Unfortunately for Behrami, he didn't engage his brain. What you need is a more consistent interpretation of the rules by the ref with in a game, which should be easy and by refs from game to game which I accept is harder. This ref is inconsistent with his decisions within this game and it's coming across as bias towards the Chileans.
davieG Posted 21 June 2010 Author Posted 21 June 2010 He would have gotten the free kick if he kept his elbows to himself. He swung his elbow first at Beausejour and connected and he then swung again at the other Chilean lad. Behrami has no argument, I'm afraid. He had to go. Well of course he had to go but where was the ref leading up to the incident Behrami was repeatedly kicked from behind and held, yet when a Swiss guy held someone from behind just minutes later he calls a foul.

I totally agree with that of course, we do all want a level playing field, but it just isn't going to happen unfortunately. The ref has been poor and Chile aren't helping the situation, but you have to play with your heads screwed on and Behrami simply didn't. Modern football, particularly on the international stage, is like this now, the Swiss have a good enough manager and good enough players not to be antagonising the situation.
davieG Posted 21 June 2010 Author Posted 21 June 2010 See what his inconsistency is causing the refs an absolute joke..
Mikey Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Another push to the neck/chest (which obviously is silly) causes a reaction of clutching of the face and falling to the floor.
davieG Posted 21 June 2010 Author Posted 21 June 2010 Another push to the neck/chest (which obviously is silly) causes a reaction of clutching of the face and falling to the floor. I think it's what dandannialdanok would describe as playing to the conditions/ref.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 I think it's what dandannialdanok would describe as playing to the conditions/ref. Not quite, what I mean by playing to the conditions/ref is that if you're playing with a more lenient ref and a team that won't have players diving then you can be more physical and impose yourself. In a match like this, you just can't take any risks whatsoever, so you need to keep your arms down at all times and maybe instead of flying in for a tackle, stand your ground instead. I dunno though, could be talking a load of rubbish here
C-man Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Bad miss at the end there. Awful. Having said that, some of this Chileans are so fvcking greedy. I've only watched 15 minutes and Gonzalez has had about 3 shots when he should have passed. He did that against Honduras too. Can tell that the referee was a tool too.
ScouseFox Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 If Chile don't qualify from this group, it'll come down to goal difference, which is ridiculous the amount of chances they've messed up.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 That was an awesome game! probably the best 1-0 I have ever seen.
shen Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 If Chile don't qualify from this group, it'll come down to goal difference, which is ridiculous the amount of chances they've messed up. That situation isn't too unlikely. However Switzerland need to beat Honduras first and I'm not convinced they won't shoot with blanks. Spain are likely to have problems against Chile too so a Spanish win isn't a given.
Koke Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Chile must have some of the mos selfish individuals in the tournament They are a very good side but their decision making made me facepalm. If the Swiss lad scored that golden chance, Marcelo Bielsa would have ripped his players a new arsehole.
MC Prussian Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 I felt I was in the wrong movie. Everything that can go wrong went wrong for the Swiss today. The Academy Award for Best Actor goes to... the Chilean National Football Squad. You d*ckheads have obviously forgotten how to play football, instead showed more interest in discovering new lows and thus prefer sniffing on the newly-led grass in Port Elizabeth, eh? Constant diving, bloody disgraceful theatrics on the pitch from you lot today - and I thought we'd be seeing some ****ing football from a side who finished second in the South American qualifiying group, just one point behind ****ing Brazil. You d*cks don't deserve to get any further in this tournament after giving fairplay a pass. Shameful display and I hope either Spain or Brazil/Portugal will teach you a proper football lesson in the forthcoming days! And the Award for Best Supporting Actor goes to... Referee Khalil Al Ghamdi from Saudi-Arabia. I already thought the Saudi football team was beyond a joke, this guy puts it to a new level. Obviously, he desperately wanted to impress, much more than the Frenchman Lannoy who refereed the Brazil vs. Ivory Coast matchup yesterday. He probably thought "What he can do with a sending off against Kakà, I can do within half an hour." and laughed heinously. The amount of yellows dished out (for nothing), and the Red against Behrami, even though I admit he swinged his elbows rather unthriftily against two Chileans in succession, was nothing short of laughable. That was no Tim Cahill or Miroslav Klose tackling from behind or a Harry Kewell blocking a clear-cut chance on the goal line with his hands. Ludicrous. Up to this point I've had nothing but praise for this year's referees. And then we get the foulest of them all. To all you Chileans out there - you're c*nts. If I should ever come across some of the likes of you, I''m going to slice you in little pieces and feed you to the birds. I swear. Cheering and celebrating the one goal scored against ten men... and that from an offside position. I dare you, I double-dare you. Pr*cks. But to be honest, what struck me as well was the inclusion of Frei and Behrami in the starting eleven. How on earth could Hitzfeld come to the conclusion that two unfit players would do anything but help changing a winning team's mentality? Alexander Frei's one of the most selfish footballing individuals I've ever seen and he did zilch today. It was as if we were playing with one man short from the start. And we never looked like scoring, anyway. So... Now, my bets on a Honduras upset against Spain.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Guess you were conveniently missed Von Bergen's theatrics then. To coin an old phrase, those in glass houses..........
MC Prussian Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Guess you were conveniently missed Von Bergen's theatrics then. To coin an old phrase, those in glass houses.......... Sorry - I'm caught in a Chilean meatgrinder. Yes, Von Bergen should have seen at least yellow for that one. It'd have still made it hard to get even with the South Americans overall. Besides, it was in the wrong end, anyway.
MC Prussian Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 One positive from today's game: Surpassing Italy's record for the amount of minutes without conceding a goal. And: After two games, we still got more points on the deck than France, Italy and... Ahem.

Tilley Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Glad Chile won they're a good footballing side and really exciting to watch, better than Switzerland for sure. Chile and Spain to qualify from this group.
Corky Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 Hope Chile and Spain get through, been very impressed by the Chileans so far.
BoneDog Posted 21 June 2010 Posted 21 June 2010 I was hoping Switzerland got a point today but oh well. Very happy that the goal early in the second half was disallowed so they got the new record of not conceding. When it went in I was gutted but the linesman did his job, for a second I thought the 'not interfering' rule might cross his mind. That record is something to be proud of. The 'collapse' of the Swiss player was disgraceful though! This kind of thing has to be stopped, it makes football a laughing stock! Chile are looking very decent. Oh yeah, forgot to say, the ref was a real joker. I'm sure that I heard the other day that this is his second World Cup! How?!
