Matt Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 I've gotta decide between these two first. v Decisions, decisions.
Tilley Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 If Joe Cole doesn't start then I give up, especially if Heskey is on the pitch.
Guest DavidJCW Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 As much as I want, hope, pray for an England win and for them to go on and win the whole bloody thing... Ah fook it! COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!
davieG Posted 22 June 2010 Author Posted 22 June 2010 If Joe Cole doesn't start then I give up, especially if Heskey is on the pitch. There's a good chance that he wont as it could look like Capello bow to Terry's influence.
BoneDog Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 No matter how poor we've been so far I'm quite confident we will get 3 points in this one with a couple of goals for us. 2-1 USA v Algeria is a tough one to call. I'll go for 2-2 in that game.
LCFC-ARAB Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 England 2 slovenia 0 Algeria 1 USA 0 England top Algeria second please god
purpleronnie Posted 22 June 2010 Posted 22 June 2010 USA will win, I honestly cant say about england, any result wouldn't surprise me.
Jordan Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 This is pivotal, to use a cliché. I've had this day marked off for a vacation day for months. If I were going to miss work for this game anyway, I figured I might as well be courteous to everybody instead of calling out sick. If both USA and England win, does that mean we go back to being friends very low-level acquaintances?
Guest DavidJCW Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I'm surprised at people thinking Algeria will win against the US... just cause they got a draw against us doesn't make them any good, we were just rubbish. I've gone for 2-1 to England vs Slovenia, more hopeful than in belief and 1-0 to the US as they don't really seem that capable up front but should see off Algeria.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Cole probably would have played if Terry wasn't such a dick.
Fosse Fox Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 The first edition of The Sun in an 'exclusive' claims that Defoe is certain to start against Slovenia. If this does prove to be the case (Murdoch's rag had a similar exclusive about James replacing Green for the Algeria match) it is a most welcome and long overdue development. What England have really been lacking in this World Cup is explosive pace and shooting and that is why the omission of Walcott from the squad and Defoe from the starting XI have been totally incomprehensible.. With a lack of technical players at their disposal and an inability to play the one touch game, pace is the one asset that England has in spades but refuses to utlilse where it really counts - in the final third. It's worth remembering that Defoe got what proved to be the winner (from the bench) against the Slovenes at Wembley last year and that in stark contrast to our other forwards he is not so supply dependent. It's worth noting also, that the media has been strangely silent about Defoe for several weeks now (except for their faithful reporting of his kerb crawling) when it has been abundantly clear that a target man who assists but cannot score is of little value and a forward who likes the occasional dig but prefers to drop deep is virtually valueless (don't those pre tournament comparisons with Messi and Ronaldo look utterly ludicrous now?). This, my friends, is the same media that dissed Walcott and championed Green as a 'safe pair of hands' - now look where their opinions got us. But instead of mocking this hack mongery/disabled hackery the majority here let out an Orwellian 'baa'. Go on and scroll through the World Cup threads and see how many have Walcott in their final 23 , Defoe in their starting XI and Green as their numero uno. And see now how many have fallen for all this Gerrard - Roone combo shit, continue to include that scuffy shootist, hospital balling Lampard and put that Reliant Robin Milner in the fast lane - words fail me. England's chances of qualification from the group that we were tipped to 'breeze' have edged up a notch to perhaps 50% but my gut feeling is that Defoe's inclusion is probably too little too late.
Asha Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Not confident at all. Think it's entirely possible that England's World Cup ends today.

Jon the Hat Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Rumours circulating that Defoe starts for Heskey, and Milner on the right for Lennon. This still fails to play Gerrard in the centre where he needs to be. It still fails to play Joe Cole - ur only midfielder with some skills. It doesn't adress the problem that 4-4-2 looks wooden and flat against anyone. I still think we will scrape through, becasue actually Slovenia are rubbish. 2-0 England, 1 around 60 mins and the other when Slovenia pus forward near the final whistle.
fatmando Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Get Crouchie on FFS!! I want to be dancing the robot this eve!!

I remain mystified in your (and plenty of others) faith in Steven Gerrard. When has he ever produced for England in an important match? The answer is never, ever, not even once! Even worse, the more important the game the less impression he makes, his record and performance as England captain is woeful. Look at some of our poorest results in recent history, N. Ireland, Macedonia, Russia, Croatia and even the 2006 quarterfinal against Portugal, Gerrard was present in all these games, captain in at least 2 and completely useless in all of them, just as he was in the last 2 games in South Africa. And please, non of this 'played out of position' bullshit, stats (Opta) show that even though supposedly deployed on the left, he spend the bulk of the game in what is best described as the inside right position, pretty much where he would play if used to support Rooney. Whilst I accept that Gerrard may well have the ability to be a truly influential player at this level, the record shows that he has yet to achieve such a feat and much as I want England to win this afternoon I really do not believe he will do it today or in fact anytime soon.
hairy Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Not going to even bother watching it. It took until Tuesday to stop feeling let down and mystified after Friday. Cant be doing with it and hope they disappear up their own, very large arseholes!

Algeria has just a good chance as qualifying as any of teh 4 teams i honestly think England will spank Slovenia which just means Algeria need to beat USA more strange results have happened in football than the 30th world ranked team beating the 14th I really do think Algeria can beat USA So it's just down to England beating Slovenia by more than 1 goal cause if it comes down to it and both games are 1 all i'll be cheering for any goal in the England game
AmericanScott Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I saw the results on itv news in my dream last night (no idea why). England 0 - 0 Slovenia USA 2 - 0 Algeria I hope that England and USA win! On another note, i'm stuck in work for this
