marbelladave Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 THAT'S RACIST That's actually hilarious, cheered me up no end... :crylaugh:
dandannieldanok Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I'm praying this pays off. Milner is yet to convince me at inernational level, but one thing for sure is that he'll give you everything when he plays. We need that bit of quality from him today. Big gamble playing Defoe in my opinion when him and Rooney have never played well together for England, and you have one in two man Peter Crouch on the bench who would always cause problems for an opposition defence. When you consider that Slovenia are likely to park the bus today I think we may struggle to use the assets of Defoe and Rooney to their maximum. I'm fully expecting a frustrating, slog of a match, with Crouch coming on as Plan B at some point. Completely agree with that assessment. Never been happy with Milner for England, just hasn't produced any quality really, despite his commendable desire and effort. As for Defoe and Rooney, I've never seen them play well as a pair but I'm so relieved Heskey's out, Defoe's pace and finishing ability will certainly cause worry for the Slovenian defence which looks far from watertight. Disappointed for Crouchy, not sure what he's done wrong, he's deserved to start at the very least one of these three games but it just hasn't happened. I think we'll be ok today, especially if Defoe just sticks on the last defender and continually runs in behind, if we play in front of them then it could be another excruciating 0-0.
Jordan Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Big change for the U.S., not that you care but whatever... Herculez Gomez starts up front with Jozy. Bornstein is indeed in for Onyewu (shit) but it's Edu starting with Bradley (phew) Let's not give up an early goal this time. Off to go have a panic attack. See y'all later. Drawing of lots will be an hour after the game at Soccer City if USA and England draw with England scoring two more goals than the USA today
marbelladave Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I have no great objection to the 4-3-2-1 (or similar) system that it appears we will be playing. What I do object to is the continued selection of totally useless 'superstars'. I'm not actually sure that Capello can put a side out without the egos but surely he could try? Another non performance from our 'big, big players' and ...............God knows...
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Anyone else just notcice the Leicester flad before Gabby Logan started talking to Roy Hodgson? Come on England
Mee Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Hopefully a good win. A game to see if they have the spirit to pull it round. Also nice to see a Leicester flag there
marbelladave Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Anyone else just notcice the Leicester flad before Gabby Logan started talking to Roy Hodgson? Come on England Yeah, rather small vertical one. Tree's flag quite impressive, side by side too, must be a truce...
Wycombe Fox Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I have a real sense of dread. Time to open a Kronie. Enjoy the game lads and lassies
Fosse Fox Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 The buzz before the U.S. game is that Oguchi Onyewu will not start--based on his play over the first two games, I'm not sure if that's good news or bad news (though ideally I'd like a 100% fit Onyewu to be starting every time). If that's the case, it seems that Carlos Bocanegra will slide to the center with Jonathan Bornstein, the world's fastest training disc cone, to play left back. Sigh. Not sure if it will be Edson Buddle up front with Jozy (heard he missed some of the training with a "stomach bug," which I read always as "hangover," but maybe he was really sick) or Dempsey up front--if the latter, it'd be interesting to see who would play on the wing. Word is also that Ricardo Clark is likely to start in the center midfield along with Bradley, with Clark the more defensive-minded midfielder. That decision would be strange to me as I think Maurice Edu has shown clearly that he's the man to play behind Bradley (or at least Clark and J.F. Torres showing maybe they're not quite cut out to start right now). But I guess Clark and Bradley is the duo that has taken care of most of the business for our team over the past two years, so "you go with the guys that got you there." Here's hoping that the Confederations Cup game against Egypt last year was the end of our struggles in group stage final games. THAT'S RACIST Another Media Studies loon. But like many nutters you are in a sense right, that is because nature is racist. But you can't accept that evolutionary biology bestows certain advantages on some ethnic groups and not on others. In your queer absolutist book, success in sport (and almost everything else) is down solely to cultural and economic imperatives. Strange then how culture and economics have so conspired that all the players of at least partial African- Caribbean descent in the England squad (Johnson, A Cole, Lennon, Defoe - even Heskey despite his boxer's bulk) would probably lick their Caucasian counterparts in a sprint. But let us not confine this discourse to football and the England squad. Let's look at the very medium where explosive acceleration and top sprint speed is best measured. Runners have been recording sub 10 second times now for the 100 metres for around 45 years and in that time around 200 individuals have managed this feat. And what is extraordinary here is that there isn't a single Caucasian amongst them and that all of them can trace their recent ancestry back to West Africa. True, many of these impressive times are due to the effects of performance enhancing substances but, as we all know, the use of artificial stimulants is not confined to blacks. Serious sports scientists will tell you that people of West African lineage have more fast twitch musculature and higher bone density than other populations (including other African populations) and this means that are more likely to produce explosive athletes - but the range of events for which these bio characterisitics are an advantage are comparatively small and in some other activities they are a positive disadvantage (high bone density reduces buoyancy and that is why only one swimmer with West African ancestry has ever won a gold medal in the pool). So, my bleedin' heart liberal zealot, stop being so hung up about eugencs and laying on the Mein Kampf guilt trip on cultural theory sceptics like yours truly. In academic terms you really do need to get out more...
BoneDog Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 I've just found out that Slovenia has a population of only 2 million! And 1 million of them are male. So that means they probably have around 200,000 males of pro football age! If we can't beat these I'll get me coat No disrespect to Slovenia though, I've got big respect for them for doing so well with such a small population.
marbelladave Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Shit.....Here we go... I'm going offline now, might be a while.... :chant:
Guest Bilo Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Lovely cross that. C'mon England, let's go for a confidence boosting margin of victory!
BoneDog Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Came off his shin but he got in the perfect position so well deserved goal. Ohhhhhhhhhh thought he had a 2nd then! And Lampard normally hits the target with a chance like that from the rebound
MC Prussian Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Good luck to you lads, I hope you march on to the last 16. Anything else would be Armaggeddon.
BoneDog Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Ohhhhhh Defoe is doing great. Could of had his hatrick by now!
Libertine Posted 23 June 2010 Posted 23 June 2010 Milner's been excellent. Definitely. Thought he started slowly but he's put some top crosses in. Defoe looks lively also. Gerrard is being more disciplined and sticking to the left more too.
