Liamlcfc1 Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 confirmed on PNEFC.com Preston North End have strengthened their squad by signing two new central defenders. The Lilywhites have captured Wayne Brown from Leicester City and Craig Morgan from Peterborough United. Brown arrives from the Walkers Stadium after being the mainstay of the Foxes' Play-Off push last season. The experienced centre-half was a key member of Nigel Pearson's side making 39 appearances as Leicester conceded just 45 goals in 46 games. North End have also snapped-up Welsh international centre-half Craig Morgan from Darren Ferguson's former club Peterborough United. The Lilywhites have paid a fee in the region of £400,000 to secure the services of the 25-year-old. Morgan made his professional debut as a 16-year-old with Wrexham in the same Welsh team that Darren Ferguson was plying his trade in. Preston boss Ferguson was delighted to get the players signed: "Wayne is one that we know all about. He is very experienced, he has had a promotion with Hull and got to the Play-Offs last year with Leicester in the Championship so he obviously knows this division well. "He gives us a bit of balance in the centre of defence, he can play on the left of defence and that gives us the option of playing Sean St. Ledger on the right. We are really delighted to get him on board, he's the right type of character, he is a winner. "He played against us last season in our last home game and he was outstanding and I actually thought to myself that he would do for us. It's been hard work getting him in but we are delighted to get him. "Wayne is a good talker, he will organise and that was something which I was conscious of, we haven't got a great deal of talkers in the team, but him and Callum will bring a lot of experience and we needed that. I was keen to get a bit of experience in the centre-half area. The added value with Wayne is that he knows the club, he came on loan and did very well, the fans took to him "Craig Morgan is only 25, but he made his debut at 16 so he seems like a veteran, but he's not, the lad's got great ability. Centre-halves don't normally come into their own until they are 27/28 but we know all about Craig. He's a fit lad, a good passer of the ball, a good size, he's a full international with Wales. "I'm really pleased with the pair of them, I am pleased to get them two in along with Paul Hayes, I am pleased with the three I have got in so far. "The Chairman has backed us, he has got the ones I want in and that's all you can ask for." http://www.pnefc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10362~2085370,00.html
Salieri Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 We need 2 right backs. Definitely, then hopefully Morrison will be used where he is at his best, in the centre of defence. 'Does a job' at right back, but love to see him in the middle and with Bruce and Brown no longer here, and Tunch still on the road to recovery, he is currently first choice centre back with Hobbs.
Liamlcfc1 Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 There doesn't seem to be a fee involved ... There is no fee he left by mutual consent
Liamlcfc1 Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 Now on OS Leicester City Football Club have today announced that Wayne Brown has left the Club by mutual consent. http://www.lcfc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10274~2085534,00.html
hackneyfox Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 Berner so far has been stop start with injury problems, and personally I dont want another Ryan Mcgivern scenario. We also need to bolster at centre back, and need at least one addition up front along with a right sided midfielder. Goalkeeper is not a priority. So I'm talking bollocks about Weale and yet you think we have a problem at left back where we have Berner & Tom Kennedy Were you aware that on the right we have Solano who is supposedly about to follow Pearson, Neilson who is shit & Morrison who doesn't like playing there. So who is talking bollocks now? One man's bollocks is another man's ........ Football, as your post has shown, is all about opinions. And everyone is allowed one.
eaststandtom Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 fglad this guy has gone. couldnt care if he was as good as bobby moore. dont want to be associated with the likes of
The Doctor Posted 6 July 2010 Posted 6 July 2010 I said I wouldn't be upset he goes. I'm not saying he should, but it is a position that could be strengthened. We had the same disagreements 2 seasons ago over Henderson & Kisnorbo but apparently as we had the tightest defence, despite being relegated, they were fantastic. Who actually thinks we're worse off without them? Did Kisnorbo have a great season in Division 3 last season? And remember according to many he was going to be snapped up by Everton amongst others. Is Henderson plating Premier football?[ We don't know what our resources are yet. If Campbell leaves for a fee and Oakley, Solano & Howard leave, along with Clemence retiring a lot of wages will be freed up. It would all depend upon availablity, age, prospects and cost. Obviously you're chatting a load of rubbish. Weale may not be the best keeper we've ever had (banks & shilton) but he's far better than some of the ones we've had recently (David Martin, Rab Douglas). I'd doubt that solano is on the much tbh. And quite clearly as we had a good defence that season henderson, mcauley & kisnorbo were fine - we got relegated due to a combination of a new manager each month, the last one decided that it would be for the best to play non midfielders in midfield (hume - striker, Kenton & Mattock - Defenders yet all were played in midfield) and the fact our strikeforce for the first half of the season was carl cort, Mark De Vries, An out of shape and short on confidence Matty Fryatt and DJ Campbell who, IIRC, spent a lot of that season on the treatment table.

wirralsimon Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 Goodbye Wayne Brown Decent enough player at this level but turned out to be a complete cock off the pitch and I am glad he has gone! Simon
lou Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 with tunch coming back he wont be missed Have they said Tunch is going to be fit? Glad Browns gone, anyway he wouldnt have been impressed with having an "immigrant" as his boss!
blueblood Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 After what happened, there was no way that racist cock was staying at our club, good riddance to the tit, I'm sure he'll find many BNP associated friends up Preston way...
Tommy G Posted 7 July 2010 Posted 7 July 2010 why do so many people rely on the rumours that ''Tunch is coming back'' he's been injured for 12 months and has a very serious injury. If people think he will come back in and play every game for us come the new season then they are deluded, it isn't football manager guys. I bet he wont play until the start of October. Whenever they say he will be back then add another month - who is to say he will even have the ability still? Shame Brown has gone, we need to sign a few players and fast

Shame Brown has gone, we need to sign a few players and fast Everything above is on the money. We are short of players at the back and in midfield. Oakley & Howard will now have even less pace, while our back-up forwards didn't cut it last season. DJ will think a new start is in the offing until a group of pissed twats have a go at him during the friendlies. This squad is in dire need of patching up just to make mid-table...only that will no longer suffice.
Tommy G Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 Out: Brown, Waghorn, Spearing, Vaughan, Weso, McGivern (I know he's sh!t bit still a body), Powell (retired), Solano In: A League 2 left back. Says it all really. If we sign the same quality again (doubtful) then we will be in and around the playoffs again, if we don't (likely) then we will be stuttering around mid table. If Fryatt/King/Wellens or any other key player gets a long term layoff then we could be screwed. We need 2 defenders, a central midfielder, a wide man and probably two quality strikers to compete top 6. We cant rely on Howard, DJ and Fryatt. that sounds doom and gloom but it's time for some people to take their blue tinted specs off
Bugg Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 In: A League 2 left back. You forgot about Miguel Vitor, and just because Kennedy has come from League 2 doesn' mean he's shit either.
Tommy G Posted 8 July 2010 Posted 8 July 2010 You forgot about Miguel Vitor, and just because Kennedy has come from League 2 doesn' mean he's shit either. It wasnt the point he was shit, its the point at the numbers in and out. The numbers in havent replaced the quality out. Maybe it's me thats just worried and I'm going completelly mental.

Maybe it's me thats just worried and I'm going completelly mental. It's really a rant you should save for the week before the season starts and not the day after a new manager is confirmed. Dont worry. The signings will start flowing soon.
