Waghorn - Hull leading the chase

One of the blokes in the pub is a sunderland fan, said to me yesterday that waghorn's gonna play half for us to thank the fans. Can't see it myself though.

Would be great if he did, but can't see it as it's the most important friendly and we'll be trying to play our best 11.

It wouldn't make sense for Sousa to allow it. Especially given how close to the start of the season it is and his choice of words regarding Weale, committed players etc. in the Merc.

Waghorn probably deserves a mention on the PA to get a cheer and then we need to move on and accept he doesn't play here anymore (which I think many have done already).

Me neither. Wouldn't make sense. We can give him a good reception if he starts/ comes on for Sunderland, and I'm sure he'll clap us before or after the game.

What on earth would Fryatt or Campbell think if they were left out for someone who doesn't even play for the club?

That would be a total farce. I love Waggy for his contribution last season, but it's over. Good luck to him but we need to focus on ourselves.

from todays mirror.

Leeds United boss Simon Grayson is sneaking ahead in the race to land young Sunderland striker Martyn Waghorn on loan for the start of the season.

Waghorn is wanted by Championship rivals Hull Cty - where Nigel Pearson is a fan after being his manager at Leicester City in the last campaign.

However Grayson has stepped in with an offer for Waghorn and wants him signed up in time for the opener with Derby County a week on Saturday.

Waghorn is willing to go out on loan for regular games and Sunderland are expected to let him go in the next few days.

id rather him go hull

Didn't Steve Bruce come out the other day and say that Waghorn will NOT be going out on loan??

To be honest, I don't really care what Waghorn does anymore. He's not our player and he never was and was never going to be. He did pretty well when he was here but now he's gone he may as well not exist. I give a shit about Leicester City and the players who play for them. Anyone else can balls as far as i'm concerned and i'm suprised so many people are bothered about what he does.

Considering this is part of whats in todays Mercury...

However, Bruce said: "I have said that his future is with us this year and nothing has changed.

"I wouldn't have thought I would be loaning him out this season."

it'd kill me to see him playing for another championship team. if i was Bruce i'd have him in my matchday squad.

Said in the Star this morning that Bruce has said he's saying with Sunderland but we were interested.

Yeah wasn't that great yet we are the ones in the champ and he is the one getting plenty of game time for a prem team..

I doubt Waghorn will be going anywhere. With the new premier league rules of 25 man squads but unlimited under 21's - why would he let him go on loan? I am sure he would keep him just in case of injuries so want to develop him around the squad just in case he is needed.

I think we have more chance of picking up players who are not named in the 25 and therefore surplus to requirements, they know for the whole season they wont be playing so are likely to be kicking off at their club so they are the ones who will now be farmed out on loan just to keep them quiet!! Teams like Man City who have 36 (?) or so in their squad will have a few to move out - this is where Sousa needs to be concentrating his efforts to get in quick and snap up so decent players.
