Waghorn - Hull leading the chase

Would like to see him back here.

But with us looking like we are going to play 4-5-1 for sure, his chances are going to be slim.

Bruce will only send him somewhere where he is going to get pitch time, and that is certainly not guaranteed here.

Swear some people on here have fvcking alzheimers.

He didn't show his best in a couple of matches towards the end of the season but there were quite a few games when he looked like the only player with any spark, any geniune top-flight quality and any ability to change the game. He scored a crackin amount of goals considering the service he got was often quite patchy. Personally I think there's no way we'll manage to get a forward of his quality on loan this season, never mind as a permanent signing.

I'd personally suck off his toothless geordie grandad to have Waghorn back for another season. Fvck knows how anyone can say they're not that bothered.

Agree with you here.

Not sure if it's a similar situation to where Swansea fans have come on here to tell us how gash Sousa is a manager, strange when he took them to their highest league position since the early 80s. I'd love the lad back, think he's absolutely mustard and would get goals for us again. The question would be whether Pearson and his management team or Leicester City and the players he formed friendships with would be the bigger draw, really hope it isn't the former as we know full well he could do a job for those mauler boys.

Waghorn seems to be splitting us fans right now doesn't he.

While I don't agree that he wasn't that great I also don't agree that he was brilliant. I'm right in the middle where he's concerned.

To be fair to lad he was and is still learning. He's not exactly a cultured footballer but we loved him because he always gave 110%, a bit like Hume.

On the matter of whether or not he'd follow Pearson to Hull, he probably will. But he did form a close bond with the players while here and he alsi formed a bond with the fans. And if he thinks about it carefully, if he wants to progress as a footballer then playing for the same manager with the same tactics in a 2nd loan spell won't do him much good. It would do him no harm at all to come here and learn Sousa's ways, but that's just my opinion and I don't think Sousa will be interested anyway, not unless Milan points him in that direction

Who the **** wants to play for Hull anyway? Playing alongside the mighty Paul McShane must be a player's dream.

I'd rather be a Sunderland backup than play for Dull.

Why do we want Waghorn now? He worked for NP and his style. Things will no doubt change under Sousa and he probably won't fit. Also as FYF said earlier in the thread, Bruce wouldn't want him getting too attached to the club (though that might also work against Hull's favour - wouldn't want him getting too attached to another manager).

He's gone, he was never ours - get over it.

The mixed reaction on here is a good indication of how things might progress over the season.

Sousa and his tactics may well get the back up of some fans. I can see it now. The fans like to see hustle and bustle players playing for the club and players who do this become fans favourites overnight. Problem is I don't think Sousa will set his team up like this.

If results come our way fair enough, if not, people will be harping on about the fact that we should have got Waghorn in etc etc.

Last season it was "come on MM, splash the cash, get Lita in and all that". He was soon forgotten. Wouldn't want him near the club now. Time moves on. Hopefully it will again this season for the better.

I agree with the above, i loved him last season, and was gutted when u left, maybe if pearson hadnt of buggered off we might have had him back but i dont think he will fit in with sousa's plans. We will Loan/buy someone else this season that will be great for us and waghorn will be forgotten about ( unless he scores against us for Hull ) :S

I agree, but then, by the same token, who the **** would want to play for us. Just because we support the side, does not make us extra special.

Bruce:

"I thought Waggy and Fraizer were excellent," said Bruce, who pulled back from suggestions yesterday that he could allow Waghorn out on another loan.

"They chased down everything and did not let the defence rest. They could have got a stack of goals between them.

"Waggy could easily have had a hat-trick – I thought he was a bit unlucky. I have no intention of letting him go anywhere."

Bruce admitted there had been fresh interest from the Championship in Waghorn.

He said: "He did a terrific job on loan at Leicester City last season and I think he'll be a better player for it this season.

"If I was a manager in the Championship I'd be after Waggy.

"But I've said all along that I wanted him to come back and be part of my Premier League squad and that's going to be the case."

Anyone know if he'll make it to the friendly? Even if he just makes an appearance or something it'll be great to show our appreciation for what he helped achieve last season.

I think I can say that the reason we want him here is because he gave 100%, And isn't that all we ask for from all of our players ?

Looks like he might be off to Hull though, not for Hull, but for Pearson.

Waggy

Dont want him back to be honest.

He did ok but i'm a little sick of having headless chickens putting in 100% effort (Waggy, Hume, Savage, McKinley etc), I'd rather us just buy someone that's of real quality.

pearson has had the knock back by steve bruce for waghorn he wants him to stay at sunderland. hull daily mail;

SUNDERLAND manager Steve Bruce has ruled out any chance of Hull City capturing striker Martyn Waghorn on loan.

The youngster is highly rated by Tigers' boss Nigel Pearson after a successful spell with Leicester City last season and hopes had been high that a reunion would take place at the KC Stadium.

Waghorn played 90 minutes as Sunderland eased to a 4-2 win over City on Saturday and Bruce was quick to pour cold water on reports of the rookie leaving Wearside.

"The kid was outstanding on loan last season and now I think that 70 per cent of the Championship would like to take him," said Bruce.

"I have said that his future is with us this year and nothing has changed. I wouldn't have thought I would be loaning him out this season."

One of the blokes in the pub is a sunderland fan, said to me yesterday that waghorn's gonna play half for us to thank the fans. Can't see it myself though.
