Weale

Chris Weale is quite a good shot stopper but does get beat from long range quite often. He always looks like he never communicates with the defence that well. He has always been a number two (backup) goalkeeper, and doesn't that tell you something?

It's quite a hard position, a goalkeeper will always get stick, but I have never really rated Weale that much. I do think he should have saved the second Crystal Palace goal, I do think he should have saved some of the goals last year (ecspecially the West Brom match), but then again, the man has saved us as well (Reading away, he was immense).

I didn't say he was a bad keeper, but if we want to do something this season I don't want a team full of players who aren't bad or who are adequate.

I want a team of good players and for me the goalie has always been one of the most important positions.

Why do you think Arsenal are rumoured to be willing to spend 25m on Reina?

Because Wenger realises the importance of a good goalie.

More often than not Championships are won by Goalies. We've been blessed at City with a plethora of top keepers since the 60's, its only in recent years that we've had to endure flappers and pie men. An adequate keeper won't generally help you get promotion.

I might've known Fox92 would bowl up in this thread before long :D

Allan McGregor save vs Werder Breman!

This is why I rate him so highly. Well worth the 2million price tag quoted in January!

Problem solved then, £2m will be chicken feed to our mysterious duty free consortium, they'll bung Rangers some oversized Toblerone and Burbery perfume and the guy is as good as ours.

I agree with you, maybe it is something Sousa is considering. However i don't think there is any need to panic if we don't bring a new keeper in, the most important thing for me at the moment is to sure up the back four! I think what we missed was Brown! I do agree with letting him go due to what happened on the training ground that was inexcusable, but i think his experience benefited Hobbs! Once he and Morrison settle'd down on saturday they were solid again! I think Hobbs could do with an experienced head along side him! Hopefully Vitor will tighten things up at the back!

:crylaugh:

Far too witty for someone with so few posts. :giggle:

I think hackneyfox only included a link in his first post to save him the effort of typing out "I'm right, you're wrong, na na na na na", followed by the textual equivalent of a blowing a raspberry.

Neither do I, he's just adequate. Slightly better than Henderson in my opinion.

Well he must be brilliant then, Henderson was an awesome goalie according to many on here, especially when he saved a penalty.

He is, in his defence, better than alot of the sh1t we've had at this club in recent years, including his current understudy, but he does have his faults and he does on occasion cost us goals.

The link was put in an attempt to show that I wasn't the only person who doesn't rate him.

I've been getting grief over Weale every time I post about him.

At least this time it would appear that there are a few on here who agree with me.

Most on here gave him a 6 for Saturday, about 2 too many for me.

He was a bench warmer at Bristol City, that should probably tell you something.

I just found this picture I created on the 1st January 2008 (the day we lost 3-1 to QPR - Oakley and Howard's debut). As you can tell I'm a skilled graphic designer.

I never thought I'd be saying this, but yes, I do agree with the last comment made about him from 'Manwell' being better than some of the terrible stuff we've seen in the past. Anyone remember that season we had 6 keepers in one season, Tony Warner anyone? :P

But seriously, either agree or disagree (and I think by now most of you get the impression that I think we should begin to look elsewhere) don't you ever feel slightly anxious when there is a mix up in defence and balls he could easily come and claim, all too often he leaves to his defenders, re: Alex Bruce vs Cardiff, play - off semi final 2.

Is that just a communication thing we should be addressing then, more so than a keeper? (I say you all know my opinion on this scenario but I am putting this question to you as fellow fans?) Who is in charge of the defence, a keeper or the main defender, i.e. in our case, Bruno/Jack?

Facebook me Fez's number Alex I've lost it.

Would PM you but PM's a rubbish now and no one ever reaslies they have them.

David Marshall is rubbish, did you see him flapping around during the play-offs?

Weale is more than adequate until we have some money to spend on better option, and who knows how long that will be.

All it tells us is that they had another keeper who was better than him.

Don't worry, I never really that serious (as my Henderson post shows). However, because you only put the link, I had a vision of you sitting in your computer saying to yourself "aha! Take that internet! Other people agree with my opinion!" because there was no context (no reply to a post, no text accompanying it, nothing). That said, I have had very little sleep and my imagination tends to run wild at the best of times.

Same here, a Sikh wedding on Friday, football and excessive amounts of post match beer and then a very boozy BBQ yesterday.

Not a well man today, and due to that I couldn't be arsed to sift through threads to find the ones where I had questioned Weale and had then be roundly berated for it.

Also, for what it's worth, here is my opinion on Weale. I, by no means, think he's perfect, but after the absolutely shite we've had to put up with in the recent past (six keepers in one season and PAUL FECKING HENDERSON spring to mind) it's quite nice to play one keeper week in, week out who isn't as shit as Paul Henderson. Weale is steady away in my eyes, and while we could improve, there are probably other areas that are more of a worry. Now, lets all have a cup of tea.

I ended up working for three hours between 12am and 3am doing something that needed to be done by this morning, before getting into work at 9 after four hours sleep and realising that, in fact, my boss had a day off and it wasn't so urgent. In short, I'm an idiot.
